Very informative for people who don’t really know much about towing. I towed a 5500 lb trailer with my GLE Coupe and it was wonderful. You could definitely feel some strain on the motor, but nothing too crazy.

Great review. Just got an X5 PHEV and will tow a corvette in a car carrier. Total tow will be just over 5k. The X5 wheelbase is 117” so that is the same as the GLE so I think that the handling will be similar. I’ll depend primarily on the turbo six for power. The electric motor is great for breakaway to 20 mph.
It’s pretty amazing that these relatively small SUVs can tow something like that decent sized enclosed trailer. Should have seen what the 0-60 time was with it all hooked up! :P

Love the interior of the car that's exactly what I want and looking to tow with a MERCEDES GLE 53 AMG a 26 inch long Sonoma Forest River 5500 lbs 6500 perhaps loaded..is that the new interior replacing the NAPPA Tartufo color?!!
My GLS can tow 7500lb, but RV store only recommended me 3500lb rv trailer, that are saying that is the most you can tow with 7500lb, maybe you want to leave some safety margin
If the hitch and trailer are set up right, there is absolutely no need to leave four thousand pounds of margin on your tow vehicle. The issue (especially with RVs) is that many people never weigh them, never check the tongue weight, and never consider how much crap they're putting inside the RV, including a full gray water tank and/or propane tanks, etc. That all adds up. So, it's possible that the RV store was giving you such a margin on purpose. But the GLS should tow a 7k lb camper fine *with appropriate setup* and likely do it even better than the GLE, given the GLS' longer wheelbase.
No, the suspension auto-leveled (and we had weight distribution set up as well). I had a Tekonsha Prodigy RF trailer brake controller here, it plugs in between the Mercedes and the trailer to add a brake controller (with wireless handheld emergency brake/gain control) without messing with the tow vehicle's wiring: amzn.to/4bi39DC Curt also makes a similar product: amzn.to/4duxuQS

Right! Could've tried a 0-60 run but was a bit worried of pulling the trailer out from under the car, tablecloth-style.

Did you have to set the suspension height to a certain level, and did you install ir use a trailer brake controller?

No, if you have the 7-pin wiring near the hitch out back that’s all you need.
