Actually people buy AMGs. More than 132000 AMGs were sold in 2019. That's not"no one will own". And 63s is not the average "most expensive models". The top end AMGs are so different from those base models that 50-60% parts are different. Engine, transmission, suspension, exhaust, infotainment, seats, steering wheel. Everything is different.

I always find it funny when people think the ML/GLE can not go off road. They have always been good off road. During development, Mercedes takes and tests the GLE on the same off road course that they test the G Wagon on. So it always struck me that people thought it could not. It can it is just that people don't. These cars are engineered to the nth degree. You must search videos of these cars off road. Usually it will be older MLs/GLEs since no one is taking their new ones off road. Even the GLS is very capable off road. The off road mode wasn't there for just gravel. When the German's added the off road mode they meant more than that and they do well on normal road tyres because that is how they test it during development. That is why with actual off road tyres they become crazy capable even more.
same to me and most car buyers! Al these reviews of this exclusive shit boxes are irrelevant ! after owning over 20years of our german so called premium brands (bullshit!) i bought a old used Lexus and guess what....best car i ever had !
As always, great video. This car took the off-road challenge without breaking a sweat with summer tires!!! Subaru, take notice. The onyx struggled a bit for the same challenge with all season tires and usage of x mode 1 and 2 while the Mercedes didn't. Of course this is the vehicle for the wealthy. With that said, I would stick with subaru because it is subaru!! I don't have to baby my ascent or if I get the onyx or the wrx sti. I wished the forester had XT with the 2.4l turbo engine. Overall great video but I will ask you to please test the 2020 ascent limited or touring on this same challenge road. Please, so my kids can leave me alone because they don't think the ascent can beat that challenge compared to the onyx. Thanks
I would say they would only need to take notice if they were playing in that price class. I have the feeling if Subaru was, the off-road ability would be just as good.
Why do people like you ask such dumb questions? The Benz has more power, comfort, style and overall technology is leaps ahead, no one should have to explain the obviousness.

@@drivingsports Great review! I've been interested in this SUV for quite some time. That said, I own an AMG C63 and stand behind the high performance and reliability of the drive train. The all around package setup of GLE63 is spot on. As you attested to in the video. The hill climb that you tested seem to be effortlessly. I believe a few factors that makes this car great, in accomplishing this feat. I can think of other cars which can do that. For example, Porsche Cayenne Turbo. It also has powerful engine and air suspension which can be raised and electronically-controlled limited slip differential in the back axle. It even has off-road package with underbody protection. And unlike this Mercedes car, Cayenne has beautiful interior which is not just a random collection of displays and air vents all over dashboard. It even has a transmission shifter in a traditional location - yes it is a small electronic lever but it's not located on steering wheel because Porsche is not targeting their cars towards female drivers who need to put their large purse on the front console ;-)
Only the previous gen Cayenne's had the off road package like the previous gen MLs/GLEs. They don't do it anymore. Also the Mercedes shifter is the most logical one and easier to use when doing multiple back and forth manoeuvres.
