Yes, congrat's to Buffalo Airways on 50 years in business in a tough racket and to Buffalo Joe who is one of those rare individuals who is a legend in his own time.
How awesome to find an actual D-Day cargo door for DTD!? Can't wait to see that go on. Congratulations Buffalo Joe on seeing your dream still going strong after 50 years!
Congratulations Joe , Mikey, Rod and everyone at Buffalo. The next series of DTD VIDEOS are going to be great with the installation of the cargo door. Can't wait.
Awww Mikey... Tears in the eyes. I celebrate your dedication to these airships and wait with baited breathe to see your cargo door installation get approved and flown. There is TOTAL value to this kind of work, preservation, and recovery.... History living on!
Well done on the 50. Great achievement in a rough industry. Here’s to the next 50.
Congratulations Joe, Mikey and the rest of the crew.
Getting the cargo doors back on DTD would be brilliant and I'm looking forward to seeing the whole process. Keep up the great work and thanks for all the effort with the videos and letting us join in.
Hear hear! Very well said!
Congratulations!! And here's to 50 more years!!!
In 1964 my dad was stationed at Zaragoza Air Base in Spain. I was 8 and my mom was pregnant with my youngest sister. We drove my mom to the flight line and she was put aboard a C-47, the only passenger, and flown to Torrejón Air Base, near Madrid, to have my sister. About a week later my mom was returned, again on a C-47 and again the only passenger. But this time, she had my baby sister in her arms.
@busterkey l. I believe the Li-2 has metric fittings and metric thickness sheet like the "reverse engineered" B-29. Wright Flyer, USAF (1968-1972).
Mikey, what the best DC-3/C-47 movie? Personally I vote for “Island in the Sky.” Next, I like “The Big Lift”
and “Creature From Another World.”
Comments, anyone?
@@jordanrighi4136 Ernest K. Gann was a fine writer and Island in the Sky is a classic. The Big Lift is an excellent film, with Paul Douglas being one of my favorite actors. There were some great scenes of Airlift aircraft on final, descending below rooftops. Never saw Creature From Another World but I'll put it on my Watch Later list.
Congrats on reaching 50 years of success and flying historical beasts
Always a great story Mikey and the cargo door will be a great addition to DTD. I hope some day you can do a full length interview with your dad and some of the other NWT pilots.
Congrats on the 50 Years to all the Buffalo Airways family!! Happy flights!
CONGRATS 50!!!!...GREAT DIGGING FOR INFO MIKEY AND STELLA!!!...GOOD LUCK ON GETTING DOOR!..THANKS FOR VIDEO. BE KIND!
Congrats on the 50th Anniversary to both you and your dad, Mikey!
A video series on the cargo door installation on DTD would be a must watch if/when all the ducks get lined up.
Stay safe and healthy!
I cant remember when but watching Ice Pilots for the first time I was thinking oh god American Chopper for avgeeks. That show infuriates me. Within 10 minutes I was hooked. So glad you are keeping us up to date on this iconic business. I flew on a NAC DC3 as a 5 year old the same year Buffalo was born and watched them spreading fertilizer. James Aviation. Had a little bit to do with preservation of one at MOTAT in Auckland . There is still the odd one kicking around in NZ. Thanks again
Totally agree re: American Chopper. Those idiots should be embarrassed by their stupid antics, especially the toddler in the cutoffs. He’s not only immature and lacks the self control of a kid in first year of kindergarten, he’s arrogant, lacks integrity, has awful taste, and has zero redeeming Human or even animal characteristics. Plus their ‘bikes’ are just awful.
The show Exile did was exponentially better in every possible way.
Peace
Congrats on 50 years!
That's an amazing find! Look forward to seeing the work done.
Congratulations, Buffalo Airways! And save at *least* a piece of that D-Day DC-3!!!
Happy anniversary to 50 years, I was 12 years old when Buffalo Air started I am proud of companies like yours who not only fly for profit not love the history of aviation.
My father was 101st airborne paratrooper. I like to think his journey was on an aircraft like this. He was Army ranger light machine gunner.
Always love the Buffalo Joe stories. Can't wait to see DTD get the door!
Congrats to Everybody at Buffalo on making it through 50 years in a tough business. Having a complete tail section of a former glider tug gives me hope that the glider attachment parts will still be in the tail. If they are there, will they become a working part of DTD? It would be a good way to honor the history of both aircraft.
Man Mikey! You must be so stoked to get a cargo door back on DTD!! That find is just providence incarnate dude! Some spares in that puppy too! To think that what was left after the butch job they did on her, that the remainder will be cherished again! Dig this post, and Happy Birthday to Joe and the crew! I was born a few months before Buffalo, and my Dad began his machine shop at that time. 50 years and still going stronger than ever! Hail to our Pops!!
congratulations on your 50th anniversary. My dad was a C-47 military pilot for the Philippine Air Force for over 20 years before transitioning to the Fokker F26 and C-130.
Happy Birthday Buffalo Airways
Good luck on the cargo door find. Happy 50th Buffalo. Uncertain times indeed, Stay safe!👍🛩👍
Great news on the find - look forward to seeing that project!
Happy 50th Buffalo!
I remember this airplane well. McNeely used to base a couple DC-3s at AWM and would use them for supplemental freight flights for Federal Express, whose hub is across the river at Memphis International Airport. It the time I was a ramp agent at Fedex (I am an A300 Captain there now) and I supervised the loading and prepared paperwork for this aircraft on many flights. I remember the crews wearing yellow rain gear when it was raining because they told me that the windows leaked so bad that they were soaked by the end of the flight. It was obvious that she was an ex RCAF machine by the paint job, but I had no idea that she served on D Day. I also remember photographing this machine at AWM a not long before the crash. At the time her main mission was flying fresh seafood up from the gulf coast. You could smell the seafood from 20 yards away as you approached the plane. I remember reading a newspaper article about the crash and always wondered what happen to her. That's an amazing find!I hope such a historical air frame can be saved!
captjfloyd thank you for the great comment. This is the best part of these videos is when people can add to the story! If you ever find those pictures please let me know!! planesavers@gmail.com !!
I am Amazed at how "Comms." ( UA-cam, comments, and possibly Email.) Can get Great stories out and maybe some pics in the Future.
Thank You both for getting the story out about this plane.
Best Wishes! M.H.
Amazing! Some of these DC3's have as much history and life span as the pilots that flew them.
Congratulations, Joe, Mikey, all your family and employees on your 'milestone', and to your next 50 years flying!
Congrats on 50 years of a GREAT operation. You have a lot to be very proud of.
My dad was in the RCAF, so we moved a lot. (Where have you heard that before?) Anyway, in 1952, we were transferred to Goose Bay, Labrador. We were flown in a DC3 from Dorval, near Montreal to Goose Bay. The Dak was rigged as a troop carrier so we had to sit along the sides of the fuselage in the webbed seats. I was only 5 years old, so I don't remember, but my mom said those seats were quite uncomfortable for a long trip. Anyway, after a two year stint in Goose Bay, we flew to our next posting in a DC4 North Star. Growing up on military bases and being around aircraft was a fascinating experience.
Mikey- I've said it before. You're father is such a gem! Sure, he can be rough at times, but his skills and knowlege and the history he has been a part of makes him a diamond in the rough! Great video!
Happy Birthday. Here's to the next 50. From good old England.
It’s good to see you Mikey, congratulations to all on 50 years strong and stay safe!
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY / BIRTHDAY BUFFALO !!!!!!!!! .....ps......VERY glad to hear from ya was beginning to think the virus got ya... ps ps ...Got any 50 yr memo hoodies, t shirts or such??

So excited, can't wait to see the marriage of two D-Day planes, should make for some great videos. Congratulations to Joe & Buffalo Air on 50 years, well done!
Congratulations on 50 years of hauling freight 👏👏
Great to have got a cargo door, looking forward to loads of videos on that saga.
congrats on 50 years Buffalo. watching in Saskatoon today we just a demonstration flight by the Snowbirds then they landed and refueled and headed to Cold Lake
Happy Anniversary Buffalo Airways. Well done Mike!
Happy 50th Buffalo, here’s to the next 50 years of prosperity success, and of course awesome aviation! Well done guys 👍
Congrats on 50 years! Here's to another 50! Love the family stories, keep 'em coming! I'm in MD, be happy to help with that tail.
Another great piece of history from your father, congratulations on 50 years and here's to many more.
Happy 50 Years Guys.
Great video Mikey..thanks.
Fun stuff.
Great video and as an old twin pilot (74) of Apaches, Aztecs, Navajos and the Cessna Golden Eagle 421B, Love all this stuff. Oh yeah some King Air 300 time too. Great memories and if I was 50 years younger would be up at Yellow Knife paying my dues to fly with you guys. I still travel around a lot with my camper so will keep an eye out for you of any DC3 stuff. Thanks again Mikey. Always loved the TV episode when you flew with the Stanley Cup. So cool and Congrats on 50 years!!!!!!
Fantastic You found a Cargo door! I cant wait to see it and you go to pick it up. I finish AMT school in June next year. was hoping to come to your anniversary celebrations. But looks like I wont finish school in time. I will volunteer to install it tho.
N59316 built in Long Beach, CA in 1942. My dad work at the LB plant from 1941 to 1976. He started at the Santa Monica plant in 1939. During the war they rolled a C-47 off the line every hour. He was a lead man at the time and retired 35 years later as a sheet metal engineer. He loved the C-47/DC-3 but even though it had problems starting out he was even more proud of the DC-10/MD11.
Happy Birthday Buffalo Airways.
I love these videos, A genuine Dday veteran waiting patiently for another chapter in its story to begin, albeit in a smaller component count.
may those lucky rivets , alloy sheet , screws and goo grace the sky for many more years to come. yes I have had one or two....
Congrats Guys and Gals up there!
Keep up the great work and awesome vids!
Cheers!
Great story and congratulations on fifty years of Buffalo Airways!
Congratulations on 50 years, you guys are all awesome, thank you for sharing your world with us!
Congratulations on 50 years of preserving and restoring aviation history! If I had the money to fly up and volunteer to help I’d be all over it. Amazing work.
Great talk from Joe, love his way of chatting to the camera...And Mikey good to see you producing these short clips, many thanks for keeping it all going..
Congrats to everyone at Buffalo.... 50 years is an impressive accomplishment.... hope you can go on for many more....
Mikey, Congratulations on 50 years. Keep the video’s coming very nice to watch and learn !!
Congratulation on Buffalo's 50 years of operation!!!
Thanks for the vid and the info - congrats to your dad on reaching this milestone! Looking forward to Oshkosh 2021, now that 2020 has been cancelled. Stay safe and healthy.
How awesome! Congrats to Buffalo airways.....
Congratulations with your 50 year anniversary ! Great episode!
Mikey That is such a wonderful episode Wow Your father is so cool what a star.
Happy 50th to all the crew in Canada.
Great research Mikey and Stella. Another great story and followup!
Ooh! it's sacrilege to cut up complete airframes...makes the hair stand up on me neck!😊🇬🇧
Happy Birhday Buffalo! You are six months older than me, hah hah!! Loved the time when Buffalo did the Bouncing Bomb with Arnie at the controls. That was so amazing, seat of the pants stuff, real fab flying by the late Arnie. 👍🇬🇧
Like a barn find after Grandma tells you there's an old Ford in the barn and you go look and it's a 1969 Boss 429 with only 1,000 miles on the odometer.
I'm not surprised someone would find a genuine D-Day DC-3 in the backyard.
Hi Mikey. You and your family have been in our living room so many times over the course of the six series and boy, does Ice Pilots make a great watch. I'm a GA pilot myself and loved to see the conditions your pilots encounter routinely. The episode that had the biggest effect on me and my wife was your beautiful Sophies passing. We all lose these wonderful dogs from time to time but to see the way you and Joe were affected makes you good people in my mind. Sorry to hijack your video for a shout out but I'll keep clicking and liking Plane Makers, and re watching Ice Pilots, cheers, James.
Well done on finding the cargo door Mikey and Stella. And a very Happy 50th Buffalo Birthday too.
Super cool glad you get to save another piece!!!
happy anniversity to all at buffalo
Congratulations on 50years,Buffalo strong!!!
Sweet Beans on the find and putting it to good use. Love your channel and Happy 50th Birthday Buffalo Airways.
Congrats on the golden anniversary to all at Buffalo Airways.
One question Mikey, once you have removed the cargo door etc what are the plans for the remaining fuselage section?
All the best
Greg
Congratulations Buffalo Airways on 50 years 👍👍👍👍👍
Congratulations on 50 years. Hoping for a strong 50 more.
Happy 50th Buffalo 🎂
Congratulations to the full Buffalo Airways team , or should I say family
Happy Workiversary Buffalo Air.
Another great vid Mikey!! Happy 50th!!
Such a sad end to a wonderful aircraft , I'm so happy she'll fly again in spirit. Congratulations on 50 years of Buffalo, I've been a huge fan since Ice pilots and so pleased I can continue to follow you all on UA-cam.
If DTD gets a cargo door, will she be put to use? Congratulations on 50 years!!!
Buffalo doesn't own DTD. Mikey owns it privately. I suppose Buffalo could technically lease it with mikey as an owner operator?
@@EasternExplorer That's exactly what I was thinking. Mikey is a business man, as well as a plane saver and has stated that he likes his projects to pay for themselves.
We are proud of Buffalo & it's 50 year's! Congratulations! A beautifully shot & edited vlog! We Appreciate your efforts in capturing it all Mikey! Be safe and well! & A Big hi to Joe!✌
CONGRATULATIONS on 5-decades of service, Joe, Mikey, and family! That's great! 👍👍🍻
I'm in friggin love with your dad's Mercury!!! I was slack-jawed and staring!! That thing is BEAUTIFUL!! Looks like it left the showroom 2 years ago, or less! Still got the dice on the mirror - LOVE it!! 😍
GREAT story on that DC-3 in MD! What a life that thing led! First thing I did was pause the vid and run the N-number - '41 Boeing! AHH! Nice job Stella, digging up all that great history!! Great detective work! AMAZING history! Sad to see her cut up, but at least she wasn't melted down or scrapped. Thanks for sharing, Mikey!! 👍🍻
It breaks my heart they cut that plane up...i wonder if they know she's an actual d day bird???
Either way, I call that a crime against history. We need someone like tbe late Paul Allen to put it back together.
It least parts of it got saved
I think there was a C-47 all set to be customized and updated for a private buyer until someone looked up the s/n and discovered it was the LEAD C-47 on D-Day. Plans were changed to restore it to it's historic configuration instead.
@@moremoneyfordreadnoughts1100 The aircraft you have in mind is "That's All Brother" which was almost a co-star on PLANE SAVERS Season One.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/That's_All,_Brother
Dale Comer on who’s dime?
AWESOME! As a skydiver with several jumps in the early 2000s from a C-47 with a similar history (That one was WWII but not D Day) I'm really excited for you guys. This is awesome.
Happy anniversary!! Here's to many more!
What a fantastic episode!! Congrats on 50 years!!
Congrat's on 50 years and thanks for the awesome DC-3 story...
GMC also made an air transportable CCKW 2and half ton 6x6 truck that would fit in 2 DC 3s. My neighbor restored one. He just sold it last year to a man in Iowa. Keep them flying Mike. Love your channel.
Mikey you legend just finished watching ur tv show and was glad to see your all still doing well! Keep up the good work!
Amazing show for the 50th! Thanks!
Happy anniversary Buffalo Airways!
Congratulations on 50 Years!
Great story. Hang in there. That cargo door will keep ( hopefully ). Congratulations on 50 years.
Yes... A very Happy 50th Birthday Buffalo!!
Mikey, an outstanding video. Great job with the history lesson. Congrats to Buffalo Airways.
Happy anniversary, good luck for the next 50 years
That's pretty awesome hearing about the story of the DC-3 that the cargo door came off of. I'm through West Memphis a lot and haven't ever heard about or seen a single DC-3 at West Memphis airport.
Again, just excellent content. I love seeing your dad participating in our education. Congratulations on your anniversary.
In the Wild, a DC-3! And congratulations on 50 years of operations!
Fantastic mile stone 50 years, I’ve raised a beer to the next 50 year for you guys and gals!!!!
This channel is pretty much a "love letter" to the DC-3! What a great channel!
How cool a find is that!?! Lucky duck. Will be interested in watching you guys refit it. And FINALLY, at least a small peek at Joe’s jeep. Maybe one day we’ll see a whole video on it, and the history of airport/airforce jeeps, plowing runways, used as tugs, power supplies, service rigs, etc. I’m curious as to the little red flat fender’s story. Hopefully you guys have a wicked anniversary bash next year. Something at the hanger would be cool. Do your own private airshow? Do a firefighting demo with the air tankers, drive the jeep into a CaRgO DoOr!!! Maybe a formation take off and some narrated fly bys. Buzz the hanger. I’d pay for that. And BBQ, of course. Take care!
Happy 50th! Also, cool license plate!
