The serious answer in lore is that the entity makes them do it.
The entity needs the survivor to feel hope so it holds back killers after a hit. Evan probably wipes his blade after every hit because the entity has let him know, before, that those are the rules and he needs to play by them "or else".

Canon in the story Everytime the survivor dies or escapes they lose a bit of their emotions / soul until they become a empty husk repeating the same game until the emotions are drained dry of their bodies.
@@Ofishall555so that’s why you start to chill with them. Ghostface is usually a teenager so the adult survivors aren’t much older and they’d totally hang after like 10 rounds. Ghostface killers only killed for the fame in the movies so they’d get tired of killing people if they don’t get fame

The nicest way to help the killer in Dead By Daylight and in the end the survivor was so proud of the Trapper for learning about striking twice.

Unless you're talking about something like 1095 or M4 basically really high carbon steels with no chromium to make it stainless You don't have to worry about oxidation before your done wiping the floor with the survivors.

Yes if you have time you should clean it off I was just saying that for 80% of the steels out there it's not going to do a whole lot if you cant get to it especially if there's multiple survivors grouped up. Even for a good portion of the remaining 20% it's not going to be bad enough to cause concern .Simply surface rust that can easily be wiped away with a cloth and water.
Also the grease in the blood and meat you just slashed open can dull you blade.

DBD has a built in lampshade for all these gamey bits. The Killer is doing The Entity's will, and extracting slow torturous hope out of the Survivors. The two health states, the to hooks before they die, the generators, its all built so its not over too quickly.
But yeah, it's pretty clearly just for balance.

@@PinocchioThatBoi that's what the entity does, they feed on emotions. mainly the emotions of the survivors, there's a whole lore thing but basically DBD takes place in a realm created by the entity which is a malevolent being that drags killers and survivors into the realm to play a twisted game. only 1 person has actually escaped the games, the rest just get sent back to the camp fire and their memories removed.

It’s funny cuz in the DbD universe since no one truly dies, some killers and survivors do talk to each other, not really friendly i would imagine but they aren’t restricted. Dying only resets your memories.

I want to believe the killer wants his victims the best possible experience of getting slashed by a clean blade, and therefore must clean the blade after each slash

Maybe it’s a time related thing, the killers have been in the realm since they were taken some going back as far as the damn medieval era so by cleaning the blade it probably lasts longer and isn’t eroded by the blood if that makes sense.
The entity has rules to give the survivors a fighting chance so by cleaning the blade they give ‘em a head start and aren’t just dicking around waiting for them to run off.
