Regarding the Fougere type. I wouldnt consider Geranium, lavender, coumarin as typical "forest notes" If the Idea is the smell of the forest. Forest notes would be more like K-Koinfir, Y-Moss, W-Wood in my opinion. And the name fougere is pretty misleading as it doesnt smell like fern - which have a more of a green smell but however grows in the forest.

Hi my name is Morne and I am new to fragrance and have found this course very useful. I would just like to understand what it ment when it's said that aldehyde c12 mna is "controlled" by the mentioned ylang ylang and vanilla as well as the second mention of the unnamed amount of fresh rose to control the aldehyde. Please help I would appreciate it.

Hi Morne, Please contact me at PerfumersWorld. I wrote a lengthy reply only to find YT had deleted it when I checked back. Steve from PerfumersWorld (use the contact page)

What's meant by "controlling aldehydes" in general is the reduction of 'artificiality' or 'soapyness' or 'butteriness' or 'metallic quality' through another element (e.g., ylang ylang in Chanel #5). As for the chemistry behind why that works, I imagine science doesn't yet fully understand it - otherwise, more than 2 main ways of controlling aldehydes would already have been found.
