I convinced they’ve been in Southwestern Virginia for years. I’ve found two separate large deer killed by seemingly a single animal. And hiking the Appalachian Trail I once heard what sounded like a woman screaming but far too loud and for too long of a period of time. I’m skeptical that the conservation officers truly know for sure that they aren’t around.
I’m from Kentucky, south eastern. (Appalachia) My grandpa lives in a valley. When I was a little girl I would climb the mountains surrounding his house and he would scream and call my name from the porch. I knew he was happy to see me when I’d come running back down. He told me don’t do it no more because the mountain lions and snakes (of course all other animals, but those specifically). I knew I’d better listen or I’d be dealing with him too lol.
We had a cougar cross the road in front of us this past Saturday on the Natchez Trace. I’m not familiar enough with the area to name the location . But I believe we were within the last 10 miles of the terminus.
They are all over the place in Eastern Kentucky. I wouldn't be surprised if Tennessee doesn't get flooded with more of them if they haven't already arrived.
In the spring of 2022, a mother cougar and her three cubs were spotted in Wears Valley in Sevier County (East TN). In August 2022, employees working overnight at Dollywood saw a cougar--not a bobcat-- crossing the railroad track.
I read an article on the Internet about a secret project by twra that released 18 adult cougars , 11 female and 7 male that were trapped in SD. They were released in the area around Cades Cove in 2011. This article has been taken down for a number of years now. I fully believe your claim.
The one in Carroll county was a female according to TWRA. The video of the one in Humphrey county is a big male. And the pictures of some of the others look like big males or Tom's. Whichever you want to call them. Look it's not easy to get a picture of a bobcat for most people. And they don't travel very far at all. Male cougars don't go looking for a new breeding ground where there's no female cats. Female cats don't go where there's no males either. There was 0 coyotes when I was growing up and now they're plentiful as can be. No armadillos either. No alligators yet there's getting to be several in lower TN. Around Memphis are several. Pictures taken by a TWRA biologist in fact. And you can see Allen power plant in the background. Predators follow game. It's that simple. And I'm my opinion there's no way one cougar did all that traveling so fast. And changed genders in the process. Look at photos of known female cougars and then males. It's not hard to tell by their body shapes and head sizes or just the look of a big male compared to a female. They look different. Because they are different.
These cats travel 100 miles a day sometimes.....we have them in New jersey....I think they stayed in the pine Barrens for 100 years....now they are from north to south but very rare
I always hear the same thing..."there are no eastern cougars in North Carolina, they are extinct throughout their range..." in response to reports of cougar sightings in North Carolina.... my second thought is, ok buddy, no one is specifying "eastern" cougars. whats with the word games? fine, eastern cougars are extinct, that doesnt mean there isnt a very good chance that there are COUGARS of whatever subspecies, finding their way into western north carolina.
Mountain lions population is growing in the east. In 20 years i believe they will be a common thing just like black bears are. I hope so. Such beautiful animals. Will definitely help control deer population especially in more remote areas. That will help the environment. Also I know they are breeding . My dad and brother and law both at same time saw a small 30 pound cougar. As the guy said on Jurassic Park. Nature finds a way
We seen one last night on my husbands uncles property it was dark but we were driving shunned light and it stood there for a minute and then ran into the woods , Bedford county wheel area
Louisiana has always had lots of panthers , brown and black ones .I have seen five over the years , three within 15 ft in the woods and 2 black ones crossing the road with witnesses !
No. There's not one single picture or video of a black panther ever existing in the US. Cougars aren't black. Don't take my word, call every single wildlife biologist you can get on the phone.
So this is from a while back. If you look at the dates on these sightings they put in the news... Seems strange that one Mt Lion would travel all over like that. Best guess is they are breeding and there are more and more each year since. Seem to be moving North and East based on other data. Need photos or trail cam.. or fur .. not sure scat would be of use but this is what it looks like , FYI - Best explanation of how it differs from other animals. ua-cam.com/video/GaemVcjLdds/v-deo.html
So silly that she thinks there only there because of deer season. No that's the only time deer hunters have trail cams out crazy. Cougars eat deer all year and don't know about deer season lol
My mom says there is one in her back yard in pulaski tn called made report they came out looked said well it's gone now but yet it com s up out the woods almost daily
I swear I saw a dead one today on the side of the interstate on the way to madisonville from Cadiz. I’ve also heard what sounded like a scream but could have been a big coyote or bobcat🤷🏻♀️

I just moved out of Floyd County and Pike County last year, back to Michigan, I've seen a lot of them between shelbiana and Martin Kentucky.

Someone got one on a trail cam in Wayne county not that far from the Trace.
I’m so disappointed in the TWRA, re-introducing cougars to Tennessee could seriously help out with the raging CWD out breaks

They're there. Just because you don't see them doesn't mean that they are not there.

Mountain lions are in North Carolina too…even though they won’t admit it.

The one in Atlanta several years ago was confirmed to be a Florida panther.
I saw it on the Trace last summer between Wayne and Lawrence county.
