The eastern cougar used to inhabit West Virginia in the 20s and 30s. My dad used to hear them screaming at night in the woods. One actually chased him. I saw one on a bridge around 6 am at the river in north Georgia in 1995. I spoke to linemen who were working in the woods and they swore they saw one too. Six months later a game warden in Toccoa GA was chased into the river by one. I believe they are western cougars who have moved east looking for territories, since they are known to be solitary and roam large areas.

I believe you being that they were native to SC also but the SCDNR claimed there have been many sightings of them and the panther.

Typical TWRA, “you only THOUGHT you saw a cougar.” “It was actually swamp gas from the water treatment plant.” Jeez.

Several of us see them around Columbia. The one I saw was hanging around Tom J. Hitch. I'm an avid hiker and grew up in an area of the country where we did have to watch out for wild cougars, so I know what they look like, and what I saw was DEFINITELY a cougar. They scream like a crazy woman at night. It'll send chills up your spine.

Yep talked to a woman last fall at the iron bridge access she saw it on the bluff from a kayak. But they been here for years my father saw one 25 years ago on the land in the corner of Mt Olivet and Iron Bridge Rd ,he said “ It was a cat as big as a German Shepherd with a tail as long as its body and it was running very fast”. They just avoid people in this area . Many folks here will shoot at them if legal or not , this ain’t Colorado.

There was a drought around 2011 or 2012, I can see how they might have swam across the Mississippi River at that time when the water was the lowest ever.

I have lived here 12 years and seen three, each time they were crossing the road. In Lutts, TN and near the Buffalo River in Waynesboro, TN. On a large tract of land in Waynesboro I found a place I think one goes to eat. There are bones from several goats all in one place, I found another place like that filled with deer bones, at least 20 deer, in cypress inn TN, far away from any homes trails or roads.

Lol they’ve just migrated from the west, there taking advantage of the open territory from where the eastern cougars used to roam

I 100% believe they are in most eastern states if not all, but the still picture the woman showed looked like a house cat. The tail looked house cat length not cougar length, to me. Please people watch your pets. Like they're your kids. They depend on you.

They're captive breed and don't know how to hunt being as cougars are taught to hunt by their mothers and they're too used to people if u let them out they would kill someone with in a week

@davidpressley3451 at least they warned people. I've only seen that one on the game cam I've yet to see one in person. Someone else in my county had some chickens coming up missing and he put his game cam out and caught one on his camera I don't know if it's the same cougar or if there's 2 different ones here
