This first scene totally confirmed to me that we are going to get some very dark, mature and different Batman movie from previous movies which Joker movie too (because it has joker, gotham, Bruce Wayne and infamous Wayne murders).
The opening scene probably explains why the Riddler started singing Ave Maria in the interrogation scene. The song is diegetic and the Riddler was actually listening to it during the beginning of the movie...

i think the whole reason of ave maria being what is basically his theme song is because he was a choir boy.
