Even when the power comes back, if the camera does not get connected to the internet via WiFi, recording will not restart. Even if you have a memory card inserted, the recording will not restart.

No, you cannot see live video through a direct connection with the camera. Live video can be watched only via the Mi Home app via internet even when the phone and camera are connected to the same wifi network.

I am sorry to say that the manufacturer has programmed it in such a way that the recording immediately stops when there is no internet. And without connectivity, it will not even pair with the phone. You can use internet from another phone's hotspot (different phone from the one that has the Mi Home App installed) to pair the CCTV to the Mi Home App. But as soon as the hotspot gets disconnected, the recording will stop. In one of my comments I saw that some people have received updates that enabled their devices to record without internet. But I have not received it on my 2K Pro. If I receive an update, I will make sure to post it in the comments.

I have not used an iPhone to create the hotspot but I have used a separate android phone(you cannot use the phone having the Mi Home App). Also you need to have internet access on that phone. Just providing a wifi network without internet access wil not work. I have used it in this video and a previous video to demonstrate that the camera works/does not work without internet. But unless you can keep a phone near the camera, giving it internet access continually, it is of no use. As soon as you take the phone that gives the hotspot away, the recording stops.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Even though the official page clearly says the camera needs internet to record. At least some semblance to an offline recording would have been great. After the updates, things became more complicated and now as soon as the Internet gets cut, the recording stops. We even lose footage prior to the loss of Internet. Which I find unacceptable.
True. I was surprised to see the recording being stopped way before the power cut. Until I tested, I thought it would continue recording. I was sure that the recording will not restart without internet but loss of prior footage is a crime

That's because I created a video earlier where the feature was demonstrated to be working But after two updates, the feature was removed and further restrictions were imposed. The video was a demonstration and not a feature description. Also, You could have read the comments if you just wanted to know if it works.
I am sorry to tell you this but the free 7 day rolling storage option has been stopped by Xiaomi. Now you have only the option to save the recording to a Memory card
But I think the notifications stopped because there is nothing to show you if you try to watch the event that triggered the notifications. I think the notifications will be back once you insert a memory card.
