May I drop a little technique hint on you? To smooth the cardboard edges, a flat file works way better than sandpaper. You don’t need a big one; smaller ones work just fine. Like a nail file on steroids. Another little hint: when the fuzzy things come up on some of that untreated tubing, take a piece of a brown paper bag and rub it like sandpaper on the tube. It will take the grain down without messing with the paint. Brown paper works wonders smoothing wood between coats of paint, too. Learned this trick waaaaay back when decoupage was a big craft trend. After every coat of paint, then after every coat of varnish, we’d sand the piece with a piece of brown paper bag (now called craft paper by some). It took out any dust that might have settled and you could get a very smooth finish. Hope you don’t mind me passing along some ancient secrets. ; )
The antique brass mirror you created turned out beautifully! I'm also very jealous of those leather bound art books you scored at the thrift store. Great job!
I live in Tampa and there is someone near me that regularly donates art supplies to my local thrift store. It's insane all the amazing art supplies I have found there every other week.
I just love that the things I already love are coming back into style! But that also means flea market and thrift prices are gonna go up on my favorite stuff 😭 I love mixing bold, black and white patterned pottery with the natural/organic/clay pottery. My design color palette is like black and white pattern accents, burnt orange (up to kind of a brick red), golden/mustard yellow, warm gray, and cream/ivory. AND aged gold/brass. And lots of plants. 60s-80s mixed with modern touches. So I totally love watching your videos, because a lot of your DIYs already vibe with my stuff! Except for cane. I walk with one, but I don't need it in my decor. 😂
Larri27 girl our color palettes are the EXACT same. I’m really hoping the prices don’t go up too much 😭 I feel like I’ve been living in a wonderland getting such amazing pieces for such a low price!!
All era’s of fashion and style are unique and worked well for that particular time. It was considered “stylish and classic” back in the 80s as well so let’s respect all era’s of fashion. 💯
I love that it gets trendy to have a mix of old and new. I think that is my favorite because it looks amazing as well as it feels like home, if you know what I mean
I SO love Sunday mornings with coffee and XO Macenna! My son has been my thrift hunting buddy since birth, and he’s 7 years old now. We love watching your channel and we’re both so inspired by your decor upcycling and decorators vision!
Glad I'm finally trending lol. I've been collecting old brass things for over 2 yrs. I do find some pieces here and there in Goodwill or thrift stores but most has come from estate sales and vintage/antique stores. I love it. It's sprinkled throughout my home.
Macenna, I always love the way u pick up the latest trend and find an incredible way to copy it, and at the greatest prices! You're fenominal! I always have to click on as soon as I see a new video from you!
Hi!! I did the same thing to my mirror a couple a months ago! But I'd recommend you to use leather shoe cream in black instead of acrylic. It applies really well and gives the perfect metal effect over the paint! To seal everything I finished it with the same cream but in clear and it looks amazing!
It’s a good idea to go with whatever style you actually like, not just things that are on trend but you don’t really care for. Trends come and go. I personally still really like that “pink peonies and rose gold” style you mentioned was last decade lol
Amazing mirror transformation. Beveled mirror for $14.00 and the transformation is right on. The table is unreal I can't believe how real those tubes look.
I remember those particle board tables from the '80's....they were never meant to be exposed, the purpose of them was to be covered with a full length ruffle edged table cover and were used in country/prairie style décor.
Lol. .yes, we girls are showing our ages, lol. . the $19.99 was likely original price. .we used to cover with 70" round cloth and glass top. All my bedrooms had them. Wish I'd have re-purposed them when I re-decorated, but now you can get them at the thrift store for a buck, lol. .
Enjoying going back to 1981. Had the color scheme. Back door we painted it a shrimp tint .looked beautiful coming into my u shape eat in kitchen. Then I brought in fresh linen (has great purple tone). Beautiful work XOXO
The first two came out well, but the last diy looked very cheap because you can see the particle board holes on the top portion and the paper roll lines very clearly. The only way I could see of saving it would be using maybe clay or spackle? That way it gives it a feeling of being ceramic or stone?
Those brass swans were in my childhood. I can't remember if it was my aunt or my grandmother who had them, but I remember loving them and thinking they were so pretty.
The “texture” on the pottery is supposed to be throw lines! (Or mimic them anyway) throw lines are created when making pottery on a pottery wheel, and are formed when you are expanding/pulling the pottery upward/outward. The lines are formed by your hands when creating pottery!
Had a little chuckle when you showed those cute little brass ducks that you found and loved! I had the same ones many years ago - probably late 1970's. I ended up donating them to a thrift store many years ago! Too funny!!
This is a FANTASTIC video! Please do more of these Trends -- maybe how to combine past trends with what's new and upcoming. Your style and delivery is exceptional and I get so excited to see what you present each week. Thanks so much...Mary
I’m so happy to have found your channel. I have spring break next week and I’m going to try thrifting and doing some of your tutorials. The table was genius..... I’m going to try with pvc pipe and make a table! Thanks so much for the idea!
Liked it absolutely! Subbed immediately!! Love ur work! U seem to be like a game changer in DIY furniture without the big tools like the machine cutting saw n all. Absolutely loveeeeee the table in the second part of ur vid!!!!!
Hey macenna! Bumped into your channel yesterday and just wanted to show some love from Brasil. We are in quarantine and it’s being really tough, specially mentally... and ur videos are making things a little bit easier for me these past days. Thanks for that! ❤️🥰
2:00 Target has a similar black vase, and I have seen it in similar Scandinavian designs. I have a vase that is the same shape (not a fish bowl, legit better) and I’m going to add texture paint to it. But wow I love these two!
Hi! I love the vibe of your videos, and even got interested on learning how to macrame because of the pillow you tough us to do. In this videos, I loved the vases and the mirror, but the table didn't came out well this time. Maybe you could came up with a video fixing things that didn't worked...
Your channel is my new relaxation/inspiration indulgence! I love watching these and your very aesthetic/practical/funny method of filming. I've had this weekend mostly at home (yay, Corona virus!) and have finished 2 different paintings, and relaxed perfectly while having your videos on in my line of sight. ^_^ Keep making these, lady!
Mirror looks fabulous! I've purchased some nice artwork at festivals where the artists used those shiny metal frames that just didn't go with my decor. I purchased similar battered metal spray paint to tone it down and the frames look so much better.

Tip for tubes: Auto body wrap places have huge tubes they are always giving away and they are the smooth cardboard.
Oooo great tip 😊
The antique brass mirror you created turned out beautifully! I'm also very jealous of those leather bound art books you scored at the thrift store. Great job!
DITTO
Ditto ditto ditto!
I love the mirror! 😍great job!

@@ambbbognov OMG. I am so jealous ( in the best way possible )
Lucky you. 😊
Just a suggestion. I think spray painting those cardboard tubes with stone or granite spray paint would eliminate those cardboard seams.
love that idea!!! thanks :)
LOVE earthy tones and all of your DIY items. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and creativity!!
I collect white vases that's why I liked those beautiful vases more in white. But you did a good job anyway.

Omg ! That table is absolutely beautiful ! Am loving the Scandinavian decor ! Something fresh & new ! Anything is better than farmhouse decor !!
you described the transition of decor over the decade perfectly 👌🏽💕
I love how sustainably conscious you are! X
Loved them all. Especially the table. Upcycle for the win!!
MaCenna you are just a blessing girl. You are just made for this. Annointed. Brilliant.
Macenna, I always love the way u pick up the latest trend and find an incredible way to copy it, and at the greatest prices! You're fenominal! I always have to click on as soon as I see a new video from you!

That table turned out doppppe!!! Wow. Going to attempt that, thanks for sharing your ideas!!

Everything turned out amazingly. I especially love the mirror and the table- so clever!
I was kinda bummed when you painted the pottery but they look really good and I love the mirror. Not so into the table but it's a clever idea.
Omg seriously that little table is soo freaking cute!
Amazing mirror transformation. Beveled mirror for $14.00 and the transformation is right on. The table is unreal I can't believe how real those tubes look.
Easily one of the best diy/decor channels out there
I love how cohesive all these projects look together! the table ended up so gorgeous, i was skeptical, but you styled it so well!!!!!
I remember those particle board tables from the '80's....they were never meant to be exposed, the purpose of them was to be covered with a full length ruffle edged table cover and were used in country/prairie style décor.
I was wondering why you'd have a full particle board table...
I remember them too. Not meant for dining, but as a bedside table.
yep, and then maybe a glass top over the cover
Lol. .yes, we girls are showing our ages, lol. . the $19.99 was likely original price. .we used to cover with 70" round cloth and glass top. All my bedrooms had them. Wish I'd have re-purposed them when I re-decorated, but now you can get them at the thrift store for a buck, lol. .
OMG so funny your first trend is organic pottery...I've literally bought 5 pieces this past week while out thrifting! LOVE!
Hahaha!!!! Sameeee!!! 🥰
I work at a family owned pottery studio so I got stoked about that too!!
Those art books!!! Omg!!
A sunday is only complete when xo macenna posts a new video! ✨✨
the cardboard feel is actually quite nice, making it a more updated environment conscious update of the 80s roundedness
Enjoying going back to 1981. Had the color scheme. Back door we painted it a shrimp tint .looked beautiful coming into my u shape eat in kitchen. Then I brought in fresh linen (has great purple tone). Beautiful work XOXO
That was a great ideal for the table, turned out so well. Color choice was super an looks so good with the chairs, in that area.
I just love your UA-cams I am addicted! I love your energy and all your wonderful projects! You are my newest UA-camr/Designer!
The first two came out well, but the last diy looked very cheap because you can see the particle board holes on the top portion and the paper roll lines very clearly. The only way I could see of saving it would be using maybe clay or spackle? That way it gives it a feeling of being ceramic or stone?
mister palacios That table looked terrible. You can’t make furniture out of particle board and paper tubes.
Agree, that table was a miss
Thank you for all the inspiration your videos give!!! Don't never stop making them!!
Wow the mirror looked spot on
Those brass swans were in my childhood. I can't remember if it was my aunt or my grandmother who had them, but I remember loving them and thinking they were so pretty.
This Is Kassia Literally same!!
Sameeee
MaCenna!!! Get the Rustoleum Metallic Champagne Bronze for a more “antique” looking bronze!!! I DIY’d a $2 thrifted lamp with it the other day!!! 💞

That mirror was SO GOOD!!!

You and Drew are my favourite diyers ever. Loved the mirror. Good try with the table. The cost was great.

The brass morror looks really really beautiful.
Drew has been popular this week. He was mentioned in 2 videos!! Rachel and MaCenna. So proud of him
Had a little chuckle when you showed those cute little brass ducks that you found and loved!

Hi. I love that you tackled an 80's trend table.... I think I would edge the top with a gold metal rim somehow... just calls to that for me. Love you!
Binge watching all your videos 😍😍😍 you are so so talented ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I really like that antique brass look 😍
I have the exact little two brass ducks you have at the beginning of the video. I love mixing new and old x
I already love thrifting but all your DIYs make me super excited about going to Goodwill!
Omg the swans are the cutest
that mirror is gorgeous!
That mirror and table are absolutely stunning. You're a genius
Rub N Buff is another great way to get a antique gold finish and I think its less expensive and goes a long way. Great on mirrors and pic frames etc.
The mirror looks great.
There's an antique wax you can use for the aged look to brass/gold paint.
I’m so happy to have found your channel. I have spring break next week and I’m going to try thrifting and doing some of your tutorials. The table was genius..... I’m going to try with pvc pipe and make a table! Thanks so much for the idea!
The table was amazing! I love the post-modern 70’s/80’s trend right now 🙌🏼🙌🏼
That mirror and table are so awesome! Great tutorial! Love your inspiration!
Liked it absolutely! Subbed immediately!! Love ur work! U seem to be like a game changer in DIY furniture without the big tools like the machine cutting saw n all. Absolutely loveeeeee the table in the second part of ur vid!!!!!

These look awesome, super talented and creative!!
New Macenna and Drew videos. A perfect Sunday with a cup of ☕

Love these . That table. Wow! Thank you 🥰
I preferred the vases the colour they were .
2:00 Target has a similar black vase, and I have seen it in similar Scandinavian designs. I have a vase that is the same shape (not a fish bowl, legit better) and I’m going to add texture paint to it. But wow I love these two!
The brass mirror idea gave me an idea for sunburst mirror I just got- thank you!
Love the mirror, great idea with the black paint. I have a old mirror that I am going to try that on, thx!
I like the colors you painted the vases. Very talented! And good eye for thrift goodies!
beautiful vases diy, and I agree terracotta is cool!
Hi! I love the vibe of your videos, and even got interested on learning how to macrame because of the pillow you tough us to do. In this videos, I loved the vases and the mirror, but the table didn't came out well this time. Maybe you could came up with a video fixing things that didn't worked...
My friend found those swans at a goodwill here in WA and soldered curtain hooks on them! They hold open her patio door curtains!
Keep making these, lady!
Lol, I have those brass swans too but a tiny bit smaller than yours, exact poses though. They were my grandmas and I love them!
Mirror looks fabulous! I've purchased some nice artwork at festivals where the artists used those shiny metal frames that just didn't go with my decor. I purchased similar battered metal spray paint to tone it down and the frames look so much better.
Me, looking around my all-thrifted house: biscuit tones, rounded 80s, brass details, organic pottery.... I'm soooo ahead of the game! 😆
you kill it every time!!
The best channel dector & makeover it gave me a lot of ideas for my room..keep going
