A lot of westerners just go to phuket, bangkok and pattaya the north, south and east of the country has a real laid back lifestyle not just bars and strippers

I absolutely refuse to get on tuktuk in Bangkok and avoid taxis from airport I found cheap,clean&safe skytrain where I can walk to hotel in Pratunam which has cheap shopping&markets. In my travels tourists are like walking atm machines for locals&Bali is a lot less stressful Next time go to Pratuname&there is boat that links to main service If I had a $1, for everything that went wrong in my travels,I would be rich,I have a healthy distriust as solo females are too easy a target. The tuk tuk drivers get far fewer people using them nowadays because everyone knows what they're up to - which ironically makes them become more desperate and scammy. They haven't changed their behaviour in 30 years. Just avoid.
Its a part of the trip, scammed in BK going to Palace "closed today take you to mates shop" all the guards at the palace in on it to, haha then pick pocketed in Chatachat market don't keep money in wallet in pocket, ahhh the memories I'd go back in a heart beat, amazing place.
I have been to Thailand. Love the food and the weather, that's it! Although there are some nice spots, I take bali and the Balinese people over them anyday
Bali drivers are the same, particularly if you're going a fair distance. For example, from Kuta or Nusa Dua to Ubud, they take you to the Jewellery factory, etc.

This happened to us in Bangkok we just wanted to cross the river to wat arun and this scammer tried to charge for THE ONLY FERRY 1000 baht Luckily i saw a tourist cop and he spoke great english he told her off screaming at her in thai and he brought us to the public ferry 30 steps away but she was blocking the way !which was 40 baht each !!!
Muzza - I didn't realise that your wife was Thai - The tourist boat on the Chao Phraya river is B150 - the furthest I've been is to a hospital at pier 26 - the local boat (orange flag) is even cheaper, but one destination only - maybe B18. Long boats are very expensive. The commission tuk tuk drivers receive is in petrol vouchers. I've been living in and travelling to Thailand for 12 years and I never get a tuk tuk for this very reason. Grab is great - Bolt - difficult to find drivers especially if its raining.
She isn't Thai she is Sumatran actually.. we ended up getting a grab to the temple and boat dock for pennies and had a great day for b140/pp for the hop on hop off ferry

Here is my sons reversal of the tuk tuk scam in SE Asia,he was in bangers and getting short of $$ he got in a TT ,did a deal with the driver that they would share the commission paid by the expensive stores,did it for a couple of days
You do UA-cam videos on Bali and how to get by and not get scammed but you don’t do your homework on a trip to Thailand. There are untold videos on getting scammed in Thailand and you turn up and get done. My mind boggles.

Why I only ever went to dodgy Thailand ONCE in my life, and have been to Indonesia over TWENTY times.
