    My grandad worked in the fields all his life plus a large back garden and 2 allotments. He had 14 children to feed and never ran out of food. Truth is we dont need all this plastic . We are caught up in the plastic revolution.They ate seasonally Never did them any harm. Im going to give it a try

      That's such truth right there!! I'd like a glass greenhouse, to be honest, a nice big one, but it's not something we can put on our plot right now. I try to recycle and reuse as much of the plastic stuff we have, there is definitely way too much plastic being used in gardening in general. Thank you for watching! 💙🩷💛

      Thank you, it's tough staging positive though, I'm not gonna lie!😅 Things have got better and I'm happy to say that the polytunnel was still standing last time I was down there!👍🏻 Thanks for watching 💙🩷💛

    I've had a miserable time with polytunnel/pop up greenhouses, they never last long and bring so much heartache

      Yep! We had 2 small ones at home. One has been ok thanks to G strapping a bungee cord around it in the wind and it being strapped to the wall... The other one is now a heap of metal and plastic on the floor 😩 so annoying!! Hopefully the worst of the weather has passed now, for all of us! 🩷

      Absolutely!! It has definitely been tough the last few weeks, we seem to have been battered by storm after storm, but hopefully the nicer weather is coming around the corner and we'll have that abundance! Thank you for your positivity!!

    Hang on in there, the weather is bloody awful atm, my plot regularly floods and we are on top of a hill so exposed to all the elements, the winds are horrendous along with the driving rain and in summer it can get so baking hot its almost unbearable!! I still love it and the joy of gardening really helps my mental health but my goodness the weather conditions can be a such a challenge! Good luck with the repairs and patching up I can tell you will be just fab and fine!

      Needed to hear that today! This time of year is so hard too because we have those few scant days of glorious weather and just as you get used to them, back comes the rain!! It will be fine though, as you said it's such a good mental health boost!!

    Hugs ...But I must admit that turning the fruit cage into a semi-hard shelter seems like the best solution. You could even pallets around the bottom to shield the bench from the wind a bit more and give you something else to fix the tarp onto. Good Luck

      That's a good idea! I've got a load of wood down there now so I can look to building a better shelter when the weather improves. The ground is so boggy right now! Things are improving though 😄

      @@dlewis895 Yes! I agree with that!! Luckily our allotments are fairly well protected, we have two locked gates, barbed wire and they're out of town... but it does feel like the weather has been a bit of a hooligan!!

    How ironic that the bit you didn't work on is still standing. I hope the weather changes for you soon and your polytunnel/gazebo starts to behave properly ;-)

    Sorry you are having some weather troubles! What is the layout of your plot? Would it make sense to turn your polytunnel 90 degrees so it faces the opposite direction and the smaller end is the one getting the wind, and not the broad side?

    • @BackToTheGoodLife
      @BackToTheGoodLife  6 місяців тому

      That's a good idea! When we got the plot it actually was turned around... wondering if that's a better option now! I didn't realise the plot was SO windy, the polytunnel is in the corner at the back, I figured that was a rather sheltered place... nope!! Thank you for watching 💛🩷💙

    Those polly tunnles are a waste of money for uk weather they don't last a year and are welded so bad if you insist on using one put it up in summer and ftake it down at end of summer each year

    • @BackToTheGoodLife
      @BackToTheGoodLife  6 місяців тому

      That's probably not a bad idea to be honest! The one I have is very flimsy, I don't really expect it to last very long. When we move I'd like to get a decent one maybe wooden, but definitely of better quality! Thank you for watching! 💛🩷💙

      We bought one the very first year we go an allotment it was a disaster it eneded up in somones garden 😂 we gave up with them and buy 50 50 seeds and plants backup the first two years are about finding your feet and seeing what works and what dosent plant easy things like potato's plentiful so you get a reward for the effort .Allotments are swings and roundabouts good years and not so good but being in the fresh air weeding and digging and harvesting is the best thing for us keep at it remember to feed your plants👍

      We recovered one of those blown ways with proper polythene and dug it in at the sides, put proper doors on and have had no trouble since, got the poly from Northern, expensive but worth it.
