The fact that you can sew this in a regular sewing machine is very impressive. I tried using a sewing machine and it basically ate the fabric. From then on, i only handsew everything. We need to see more of your custom doll projects. I've learned so much 🤍🪽
What you make and put out into the world is magic 🤩 I always love watching what you design and make, and I also love your pop culture references. I kinda would love a Brady Bunch and Addams Family crossover ✨
Omg. I just found your channel and I love it. In one video you made me tear up, laugh, and feel inspired to create. That’s real talent. I can’t wait to watch you and your channel grow! 🌸
I have often thought that they get an awful lot of money for what amounts to different outfits, and I think it’s awesome that you are just designing and creating your own! She’s gorgeous, and your skills are really impressive!!! ❤
Omg Gurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrl. Mattel needs to hire you ASAP!!! 🍵💅You so get Barbies vibe and it shows with this masterpiece. Absolutely STUNNING 😍👏 keep up the amazing work Queen!!!
Oh I love this video - Malibu Barbie was the doll I played with when I was a kid. (I'm guessing I'm old enough to be your Mom 😄}. So yeah this video so hits home for me and I'm really loving your creativity!!! I may try this. 🤩 She looks sooooo good! Great job!
THAT BAG! Sorry to shout. I think it is really cool that her hair was styled like your lovely drawing, it came out like a blonde cloud, interesting departure from the og with a still breezy vibe. I have that Ken with the long surfer hair, and am thinking of trying a reroot someday, and I really, really appreciated the step by step granular detail with the reasoning for your aesthetic choices included. Super inviting approach to a reroot, thank you! Even if I never do it, knowing how to try is so fun.
Thank you! 😊 I really appreciate it!!! I wish I had a bag like that too lol 😂 I wanted her hair to be dreamy and not so straight, so cloud is perfect! I’m so glad you found this video helpful and I’m glad you found me!!:)
You are super talented and you make awesome dolls I used to have the older Barbie dolls is 70s Barbie dolls and I had a whole bunch of them except some kids got a hold of them that didn't know how to play with them and they tore them apart . My mom was babysitting these kids and she insisted that they play with my Barbie dolls and that was a big mistake. I'm in my 60s and I longed to have a Barbie doll now and I'm thinking about getting the anniversary one or the collectors one.
Love your drawings!! They are beautifully done (I’m a retired Art teacher so I know what’s good!) I’ve been sewing Barbie gloves - nightmare! I think it’s easier to draw a belt or something like that- on the material, do the stitching first & then cut it out❤️
Oh thank you! ☺️ my art teacher never liked me, so at least now I have an art teacher who does! Haha when sewing Barbie gloves it can be very struggling. When they were first being made, they were actually lazer cut. So they were actually sewn. Later repos made them sewn. It can be done! It’s all about the fabric choice. I would recommend, a nylon tricot.
I am really happy and surprised about how to reroot without glue - true story, I just finished a reroot a day ago and the glue leaked everywhere! I have tried to wash it out but nope, so I am very happy to learn a better way. I am about to reroot 1973 Quick Curly Miss America with the Steffie face mold, (her hair is irreparable and has been cut), so I will use your method. Thanks again!
Aww I’m glad the video could help you!! It’s a process I do, and my hair stays in and it’s strong. You just have to use the right amount of hair in your strands! And then boil wash it down. The head reacts in a way and your hair on the inside gets set with the heat, and boom! Great reroot! I used glue in the past, and it got everywhere and started to seep out onto the vinyl, and that was awful! Let me know how it goes! I’m sure it’ll look fabulous!
I can’t get over how talented and knowledgeable you are Dakota! You’re like, the whole package 😄 You not only look like Barbie but are so creative, artistic and skilled in so many areas of doll restoration. Plus you sew too! 😄. That’s so fascinating to me that you don’t use glue when you reroot, and I’d like to try your method. Last year I boiled a Malibu Barbie head for just two minutes, bc I got gaping holes when the hair was removed. It worked to close the holes but it made it sooo hard to see the existing plugs had been 😑 Have you discussed restoring Kanekelon hair in any of your videos? I’m trying to restore a Totally hair Barbie and her hair needs help 😆🙈. Sorry, that was probably very rambly 😅 Great video, your Malibu Barbie looks amazing!! 🙌🏻
Thank you so much!!! I really appreciate those kind words and compliments!! I appreciate you for being here as always. I do have a tutorial actually on hair! It’s in my doll restoration tutorials playlist. However I run across totally hair a lot and you inspired me to make a video on how to restore them and add in their crimps. Hope I can find one soon to help you!
She is amazing 🤩 I love everything about her from face value to her hair , swimsuit and accessories. Those chain details are such perfect finishing touches. This is even better than Trina Turk’s re-imagination of Malibu Barbie. I love the Odile head sculpt and wished mattel substituted Millie with it. It’s so much cuter and interesting. I just wonder why can’t Mattel do things like this for collector level Barbie anymore. We had Top Model Resort and those were so nice. Not as perfect as this piece or art you created , but nice.
Thank you so much!! I remember those top model dolls when they came out. I saved up all my money for them. They were so cool! I loved how collector they felt. I couldn’t wait to get them and play with their outfits. I’m lucky to still have my OG doll. I’ve purchased replacements since. But to be compared with them is a dream so thank you!
You are super duper talented and patient!! She is such a gorgeous fresh delight from the original Malibu Barbie. I had Malibu Barbie, Ken, PJ and Skipper when I was a child. Although I don’t think they were technically called “Malibu” Barbie, I think they were called “Sun lovin” Barbie. They are the dolls that have the suntan lines. Although I loved them when I was young that “70s California girl next door” look doesn’t appeal to me now at all!!!! In fact as I’m trying to recreate my childhood collection I’m leaving them out in the sun ☀️!😂 I don’t want them lol!!!
That’s totally fair and I get that choice!! The more glamorous dolls were always my favorites! I remember you saying you had golden dream, and she too has a tan, but she’s glamorous.lol I would’ve picked her over Sun lovin Barbie and friends any day lol I feel like with the sun lovin dolls their gimmicks hinders them from looking good in some Barbie outfits that aren’t sporty. Well from an adults perspective. As a child we don’t really care about that much.lol
Nice!! Congratulations on your find! I bought two in case I messed up, and needed another! I’m happy we now are able to get her in some shape or form in the US without having to pay scalper pricing
She turned out AMAZING, i love your message about making our own dream dolls instead of waiting for mattel to get their shit together (they never will) I'm currently boycotting mattel for political reasons i wont get into, so ive been trying to customize my own dolls too now, I've been using thrifted dolls and im currently learning how to sew. Your sewing skills are so clean and amazing, i hope i can get as good as sewing as you are with practice! same with face ups, i love your gorgous factory style face ups, well they look 10x better than factory, they're like high class factory. Sorry for all the spelling errors im about to go to bed, but i loved this video so much and i cant wait to see more customs!
I remember I was scrolling on instagram and saw her I was gagged! and I will be making a custom doll and it’s a Barbie fashionista because their a common doll I had when I was a kid and the princess dolls as well
I've rewatched this video like 20 times because I love it so much. ❤ what charm or item did you use to make the earrings? I've been looking everywhere to make mod earrings like that and I cant find those circle charms 😢
I was just looking at my Barbie collectors book last night which lists every Barbie in the order they released and said what a minute! The Barbie listed right before Malibu Barbie was looking forward! Why have I been lied to all this time?! Even Trixie Mattel said so, and I had no reason to not believe the Queen herself haha 🤣🤣 It is a pretty widespread rumor though, maybe you can help set things straight 😅
Someone said it in a documentary. A reporter who I don’t think collects Barbie, so they probably got a brief look at her and came up to those conclusions on their own. It’s just a simple case of rebrand to keep Barbie new and exciting to a younger new audience. In the 70s there was a lot of company politics going on, and I don’t think it trickled down in the doll department. Barbie to me has always been a feminist, so she doesn’t need to look at me for me to get the picture. But again, what a statement and when collectors tell me it’s true I’m like hold on lol let’s pick up a collector book
I feel like Debbie from Adams Family cuz one year my mom got me ice skating Barbie and her legs were hard and painted white I just tossed her off to the side disrespectfully 😂
What a sweet memory of your mom and you!!
It was a truly special moment, something I get to do everytime my niece is over. She too gets to play with Malibu Barbie!
I am always fascinated how you can change a whole expression and look of a Barbie face by repainting; the doll turned out beautiful :)
Thank you so much!
I can tell a lot of editing and hard work went into this one. Well done !
I’m tired lol jk but really thank you!!
your art IS AMAZING, i was not expecting the illustration, you are incredible!!!
Thank you so much 😀
I love how you add some of the commercials. Thank you

Well thank you so much!! I love making the customs. And I think I’ll have to try to make one every two or once a month. The problem is time.
You gave her such a beautiful face, I'm looking forward to the hair reroot. You are extremely talented!!😮❤❤❤WOW!!
What you make and put out into the world is magic 🤩 I always love watching what you design and make, and I also love your pop culture references. I kinda would love a Brady Bunch and Addams Family crossover ✨

The screenings that are hell on earth to remove are done with UV printing.
I mean good for them but my poor qtips. Lemme tell you I thought my acetone was going bad or something when I first did it.lol
