Here it is everyone, one of the lightest clamshell rooftop tents on the market.
While your review helped me determine that this is NOT the RTT for me (6'1 with a wife that travels with me); I really appreciated the walk around, pro's, con's and stowing process of the RTT. Looks like a solid product for sure! Thanks Brenan!

@@TrailCoMedia yeah I’ve got a snugpro xl camper shell that I bought second hand. Was cheap enough ($200) to have confidence to cut the ceiling. Only problem is that I need to justify cutting the floor on this much more expensive tent 😂. Wish me luck 🍻

Love that it's slim too. I could never see riding around with some of those giant wind sails on my roof.

87 lbs is pretty damn impressive and all you can ask. My question is how good is this tent in winter ( even though I plan on hooking up diesel heater on but it seems kinda skinny. I'm 6,1 ft and I can't find online if I would fit in this one. Thanks again for amazing review!

Thanks for the amazing review. I’m a first time RTT shopper and I’ve been interested in this one but had no idea about the quality and features of this tent due to its price tag. I think you may have sold me on this considering I drive a smaller hatchback and such. Cheers and happy camping.

One thing I'm waiting for on a review of this rtt is the durability of the top.
For reference and comparison, I ran the Badass Tents MOLLE pack out which features a fabric material on the top and no support bars. That material was sketchy for sure. The Inspired Overland tent has a material similar to a tonneau cover on the top with structural support bars. It's been through all four seasons and has held up great in the first year. That said, if a big ass branch dug its way into the material, it would probably rip. All in all, it's been great so far but it would be cool to see a version 2 with hard ABS plastic or carbon fiber on the outside cover.

Regarding the interior orange pouch that sags, one potential solution would be to add velcro to keep it in place. Cheers!

1:16 The biggest problem is the weight of the tents? No, it's the prices ;-)
Woulda bought this tent if it were a bit longer. Being 6’2 and camping with my gf wouldn’t allow me to fully spread out. Ended up finding a used sparrow roof nest for 1500 which suited my tall ass better lol. That being said if they ever make a longer version this is something I would definitely consider due to the design.
You would be tight for sure at that height with another human in there. lol

At 6'1, we highly recommend the XL RTT which has a 7.1ft sleeping space. XL RTT will be in stock by mid September 2023.@@clsmediarealestate7105

Looks nice. How does it handle rain and high wind? Also, I don't get my RTT makers put the layer mesh on the inside and solid layer on the outside. In order for you to open or close a solid wall you have to unzip the mesh and let myriad of bugs inside?? How does that make any sense? It should be the other way around.

I didn't see awnings on the windows...??? What do you do when it rains?
With a 200 series LC, there has been no issue, loss of MPG was 1 mpg! 1 1/2 mattress means you would have to carry a mattress or pad, because that is basically no cushion. That is a one person tent, barely! I get the weight on top, but this is less than minimal!
6'2 with a 90lb lab, and just bought it on sale at $999. Hope its big enough lol.

I drive alot on fsr to dusty trails how will the zipper hold up with all the dust and dirt build up in the long run? I have an awning with a zipper bag and after a year of use the zipper got stuck and ripped off the track.

Do you think the storage on the inside would be better if they used straps that didn’t stretch? Maybe ones that were just adjustable?

Does it stay dry in the rain? The zipper and the tent getting wet in the rain and getting mildew are my only trepedation.
Bottom gets wet pretty annoying. I was my truck and I have to take out the mattress and let the tent air out
At 87 pounds is it easy to remove from the roof by yourself? Looking to get this but I only need it maybe 10 time a year
I have not removed the tent by myself yet, however, I have seen someone do it. There is an Instagram post of some dude doing it. He looked like a normal size guy as well. Removing the tent with two people is a piece of cake though. If you camp 10 times a year, you're doing better than most of us. I would be stoked to hit 10 times a year every year.

I know this is a year old but if you see this. How durable would you say the shell is? Like a if a branch hits or pokes the shell how easy do you think it would be to pop a hole?

Oh that’s a bummer, however we are developing a 4 person RTT (Kings size bed). Current prototype height is 7” and weight just hover around 100lbs.
i got one myself and love it. its mounted on a jeep tj.

im no expert but my rainfly drilled holes on my smittybilt rtt were in fact angled and had the rainfly nice and tight, but when it did rain it did develop a little puddle of water that had to be pushed out from underneath. maybe this design eliminates that possibility? or please educate me?
Really want one but with my newborn son going with my fiancé and me at some point doubt we can work the size 😞

Quick question, do you have the ability to close the tent with sleeping bags still in the tent?
Sleeping bags take up a lot of space in the truck, I’d much rather have it stored up top.
Yes you can stored your bedding and small pillow inside the RTT.
I am able to store two down sleeping bags and two down pillows. The top of the tent has some play so you're able to store bedding in there and zip it shut. You may have to push down on the top of the tent in order to press the bedding down but it does fit.

Being soft on top this thing seems like it would be noisy in the wind while camping. Have you slept in it during higher winds?

Hi Yes, comes with T-slot nuts that can be use as additional safety feature.

This is our entry level RTT, we created the advance level RTT which is the Carbon Fiber RTT with more features and able to mount things on top of the RTT.
Cvt mt washington lol running no sway bars mean boat on curves. And limited on the trails im able to do now

Yes we provide 2 universal mounting brackets. One for OEM rack and the other for after market. Going full roof rack will be the better option if you’re going to have an overland build.
What's a good roof rack?
FSR has one as well, but it's expensive. My experience with FSR is all their stuff is quality.
Currently $999 vs $1999 IO vs FSR however, you should check out our Carbon Fiber RTT. 80lbs, Hybrid foam-air mattress, Hybrid hardtop, Diesel heater port, moonroof ran fly, etc.
5:25 I think if someone only camps "a few times a year" they don't need a roof top tent, period.

Hi, we will be expanding to Australia first and then work our way to EU. There’s a lot of regulations and restriction with expanding to EU. However, we have customer in EU that can’t wait for our RTT, so they contacted our support team and we assist them on shipping the tent individually from California or Baltimore to EU.
Out of curiosity, did you use a portable usb deflator/inflator to help expedite deflation?
portable 2 in 1 deflator will be a must on any air mattress.

Minimum for any car will be a roof rack and 2 cross bars.

I currently have mines mounted on my Uptop Bravo Roof rack and it does vibrate a bit going above 60mph. I sent IO a message and they said its normal for it to vibrate a bit.

Not sure I'm buying what you're selling considering the difference is only 140 lbs. No way 140 lbs has the effect on a truck to the extent you claim. I drove with my dead grandma on the top of my station wagon for my entire vacation and everything was fine

Bad design. Side canvas panels do not extend over bottom floor lip. Rains runs into tent. What were they thinking?
1800+ IO owners have no issues with the tent being waterproof.
The majority of Americans are obese. Does the weight specifically cause issues because it's on the roof? I drive Uber sometimes and if I have a really heavy person in the car I feel it. Is it the same thing?😮
Yes. Obese passengers or not, putting extra weight high over the vehicles center of gravity is rough on the vehicle. Passengers tend to sit inline with the bulk of the vehicles weight (engine, drivetrain, etc)
Weight up top makes the vehicles nose dive more on stopping, making the brakes and suspension work even harder. Makes the vehicle cant/roll more when turning, again hard on the suspense and making the vehicles handle worse which makes the vehicle inherently more dangerous. It even increases wind resistance, leading to lower gas mileage and an engine that has to work harder 24/7. The last one is an issue with all RTTs and doesn’t have anything to do with weight though.
