  • Green lanes provide access to the countryside to more types of user than any other right of way and the diversity of people who use them is huge. There is no such thing as a "typical laner" and the benefits laning affords people differs from person to person.
To celebrate this diversity we thought we'd introduce you to a few users who have kindly offered to share their stories about why they lane and why it is important to them.
Formed in 1995 the Green Lane Association is a national organisation that promotes inclusive countryside access for all.
Our members use green lanes for all sorts of reasons - work, pleasure, to help maintain public rights of way in the UK, or because they simply cannot experience the beauty of the countryside any other way.

    Well done!
Videos like this are needed to address the misrepresentation propagated through confirmation bias.

Access to these roads is only possible in a 4x4 if your walking ability is impaired. Too many people who want them banned seem to forget this.

Those lanes are an unappreciated, national treasure. Pity that are under attack from vested interests. Most are hundreds of years old, some well over a thousand years old. They predate for example the canal network which has millions spent of it. Researching the routes of the lanes is also part of the fun, old maps and documents, bringing history to life.

From a former glass rep from lincolnshire greenlaning is great having done 9 years of it from 2002 to end of 2011 I only stopped because of personal circumstances I have over 500 hours of video and intend to put all on you tube only thing I can complain about is all the unnecessary tro s everywhere esspeshialy in derbyshire which seems to have now lost all its tourists as this place was the adventure capital of England give my regards to c j m

In R v Secretary of State for the Environment Ex p Hood [1975] (“the Hood case”)
QB Lord Denning summarised this as: "The object of the statute is this: it is to have all our ancient highways mapped out, put on record and made conclusive, so that people can know what their rights are. Our old highways came into existence before 1835. They were created in the days when people went on foot or on horseback or in carts. They went to the fields to work, or to the village, or to the church. They grew up time out of mind. The law of England was: Once a highway, always a highway. But nowadays, with the bicycle, the motor car and the bus, many of them have fallen into disuse. They have become overgrown and no longer passable. But yet it is important that they should be preserved and known, so that those who love the countryside can enjoy it, and take their walks and rides there.

If everyone that drove the lanes were like the people in the video there’d be no worries of them being closed. Unfortunately there’s more and more idiots abusing the lanes and that’s what will get it stopped.
