- Join me in the ongoing excitement of Vlogmas, where the horse-swapping saga continues. This is the fourth installment of the series, and it's time for the professional to ride one of my horses again.
This time it is none other than eventing legend, Piggy March! She showcases her skills on the flat, making Jam look like a mini white Valegro, before taking her around a course of jumps. This was a seriously special day, I hope you enjoy watching!

@@elphick.event.ponies Even before we get to her grasp of the fundamentals, didn't you say she hated schooling in the ring at first?! (Rhetorical question, lol). A few years later, here's a mare who's enthusiastic, but not at the expense of relaxation or adjustability. She clearly likes her work and likes to collaborate with people: she takes instruction from Piggy and when Piggy asks her for something, her instinctive response is to look for the right answer. Not everyone's patient enough to bring on a talented youngster, especially one who ends up being slow to progress. It's easy to push too hard and knock a horse's confidence and love for the sport, and those things are what the fundamentals are built on. Jam's attitude is a real credit to your approach.

This was the best episode! Jam walked off with Piggy looking for the 5* course and I was right there with her. I immediately thought "Alright, where's that cross-country field" 😂

Meg, notice that Jam DOES speed up approaching the fence, but Piggy lets her and doesn't pull, so Jam relaxes and jumps out of stride. I really think the pulling makes her crazy and that's why you have a problem. Catch-22!

Meg, the fact that you're having these pros ride your ponies and they have nothing but positive things to say about where they are in their training is such a credit to you and your team. You are an amazing equestrian and I am so excited to see you continuing to advance in every way. Piggy, of course, is amazing to watch ride anything but seeing her on Jam also puts into perspective how versatile of a rider she is as well. Such talent from the both of you! Can't wait for the next video! (Also, if Piggy says take the shot...you probably should. 😉)

Love this! Piggy is absolutely spot on. Work on flexibility in the neck, move forward and down before trying to put the head on the vertical 'on the bit'. This will fix the back by allowing her to use it properly. Sit lightly, unlock your hips and go with the flow.

How much fun was that? Jam did look very calm jumping (still nice and forward and willing, but calm) but that’s excellent as you now know you can recreate it! I think I’ve seen her go just as well with you on the flat though - especially at Frickley this year.

I meeeaaaannnn, Piggy and Jam were stride-perfect!! So great to see such masterful riding.
Piggy jumped Jam beautifully and she showed that Jam is quite confident, thus pointing out that your confidence needs to be higher.
Keep learning from these great pros as they are giving you the tools to increase your confidence which will be noticed by all your ponies and couple of horses, esp Wilma, that you ride and are building up to compete fully
Just be careful w/the babies as their bones’ joints aren’t fully sealed/closed until a pony or horse is 5-7yrs old.

I think Piggy really enjoyed herself and just as she said, "I don't want to upset your pony," I knew Jam was going to be epic and she really was. I have no business offering you advice on your riding because you are a seriously beautiful rider and getting better every day. I am constantly so impressed and inspired, but if you just soften more with the hand, it will change your life and you will grow to love it. It will increase your confidence and take you to the next level in your riding. And Jam will be more rhythmic, less rushy and more uphill. (Also, her trot at the end; OMG!)

Wonderful seeing Piggy bring out the best in Jam. Does she have any tips for having Jam land on the correct lead after the jumps, or doing auto-lead changes to avoid having to trot to get the right lead? I noticed she landed on the correct lead every time with Piggy.
Your vlogmas never ceases to amaze me. Just when you think it cannot get any better you manage to pull it off again. It's always great fun when Piggy is on camera even more fun and incredible to see her work with Jam. Really informative too to hear the back and forth between the two of you about Jam. Stellar episode again! 🤩

Wow! Jammy looks amazing!!! So remember that when you're riding her ❤ also it's probably your nerves that get to you, that makes jammy feel rushed into the fences... ? The bloke last week also sang, "keep the rhythm, keep the rhythm " to keep the canter consistent going into and on approach to the fences. Piggy is such a lovely down to earth lady ! What a beautiful view as well, riding in that arena every day would be a delight. Its always a privilege to see someone else ride your own horse (especially someone like Piggy!!), you can see exactly what they can do and puts any worries at ease. She looked super chilled into those fences 🐴

this is by far one of my favorite episodes. i agree with piggy, you should not be so hard on yourself, you do a fantastic job with your horses, you are a fantastic rider. one thing that really stood out to me, i dont think jam is any calmer, and yes piggy is confident in softening her hand, but i have seen you do that too at times, i think the biggest thing i notice from watching your videos for so long, is that you without realizing drive her forward with your seat, and then have to pull, piggy doesnt really get forward, but stays in a light seat instead of sitting down and deep and staying in the back seat, that is a driving aid, and jam knows it. i no doubt understand it, your anxiety makes it be so, and i have anxiety about jumping at times too and can do the same thing of pulling and then kicking. but go watch back maybe, and that was my observation is she was not driving her forward with her seat, so she stayed softer and not so hurried to the jump. cant wait to see you in london. all the best.
She looked fab! Hopefully seeing Piggy jump her will make you realise you can trust Jam a bit more and not take that pull; this shows that you've clearly produced her lovely though and that she's a credit to you. She's a great little horse, you should be proud of yourself. X
This was a great vlog! Piggy is so fantastic and obviously got on great with Jam, but you sell yourself short. The only homework you need is your confidence in yourself…Jam can definitely do it all! She looks just as relaxed with you up, you’re just seeing it from the top angle instead of the ground. You’ve done a great job training her, and she’s genuinely ready and willing to do anything you ask of her. This is one of my favorite videos. ❤❤❤
LOL Jam truly did seem like she wanted to stay with Piggy!! I know what it was, it was the steam bath she got before being loaded onto the horse box! That to a horse is like a spa treatment on the go.
