Great job Wendy you are so awesome! What an inspiring example you are to others who want to get out there and try a solo overnight too. Keep at it!! she gone....
Thanks ever so much. Your video on solo camping really gave me the push I needed and the confidence to just do it. Watched it twice then got out there! Felt great. I’m a huge fan. Here’s to women outdoors
Hi there Brooke and Wendy from North Pole AK. ❤ AT 62 yrs young I have been having a stirring for some independent adventuring. I see myself in you Wendy. Watching both your channels brings me joy and hope to get out there ! Brooke, my husband Joe Clark and I are good friends of the Stills. I told my husband he could leave me at our cabin in the woods for a week if he wanted to. 😊
Oh my, I have just found your site and am so inspired! Just yesterday I decided I can’t live in fear so did a solo hike in the wilderness - well I had my little dog for company. My friends are older than my 72 yrs and have gradually dropped off hiking in the wilderness due to health reasons so I guess I have to start going on my own. I’m not a group hike person. So fortuitous to find your site today! You are so well spoken and not an alarmist. Thank you so much!
It's very encouraging to see older women like myself still having confident outdoor adventures, whether alone or not. I used to backpack with women friends in my 40s and we all had learning curves with our equipment, as well as living in the mountains for several days without men along. Our husbands & sons were in scouts together and having all the fun, so we decided to take matters into our own hands and venture out. Honestly, we had more fun that way too. I'm a new subscriber and look forward to all your videos now.
Hi Becki, thanks for your comments. Yes, a group of women can have an absolutely great time together. Everyone just pitches in has ben my experience. I am pleased I have recently found a couple of women who also still like to camp out in a tent. I look forward to more trips with some company too.
Wendy, the mysterious algorithm just served up your account to me and I’m so pleased to see you out there. I did my first solo overnight at 61, 3 years ago, and like you, I found it to be a wonderful experience. I hope to see more of your solo adventures! Thank you for bringing us along.
Hello Denise- What a great story- 3 years in is a great accomplishment- It is indeed a wonderful experience. Hoping you have many more. thanks for watching.
Of course I have to subscribe. 👍👍👍 It's great seeing more of us...uh...vintage folks getting out alone. I was in my late 40's before I did my first solo overnighter. In my 50's before winter camping, also solo. Keep up the good work. Also nice to see someone who isn't afraid of a hatchet. 🔥🔥🔥
some of us are later starters!! My first back pack trip was when I was about 35 but not solo until the last 2 years. Turned 75 today so I definitely qualify as "late" in the solo department. Been a life long camper though. Still can't get enough. Here's to us as a fellow vintage persons who love the outdoors.
A tip is to get an Amok Draumr 5.0 hammock, its an awesome hammock and you can sleep on your back side stomache etc. I hope you check it out, its very easy to put up and very well thought out in every little detail. Thank you for sharing this great video with us🙂
I loved watching this video, thank you for making it! I rediscovered how much I adore the outdoors when the pandemic started and began building fires and having coffees in the woods or by the inlet, and I too, was inspired by @alexisoutdoors as well!
Guess I’m binge watching some of your videos from the beginning. Beautiful view of the lake! Not sure the hammock would work for me. FYI, we are in Colorado. In our mid 50s. The only time I camped was when I was a kid. But i think it would be fun to get out there and you are inspiring. 👍😁
thanks Nikki- My first more tradition hammock did not work for me but the Haven Hammock Tent is much better for me. Back sleepers are ideal candidates for hammocks I think. I am not one of those. 🙁
I recently did my first solo overnight hike and camp. It was great!! I got up early the next morning before the sun came up, and did some night hiking. So fun.
Some folks don't like it at all- As a stomach sleeper I needed to find a hammock that worked for me. see if you can rent or borrow one before buying one.
Hi Wendy looks like a good trip, if you put more weight at the front of your canoe it will trim it to steer into a headwind, it will act like a windvane as the nose is lower than the tail 👍
I have asked family members to join but they are usually working or just don't like tenting. Don't know what they are missing lol- I am happy when someone wants to come along. I have 2 friends who are sometimes joining me now.
Most excellent girl !!! Paddling off into the sunset to inadvertently free camp on an island you shared with a friend many years ago .What an inspiration! Hammocks look nice but I like the solid ground, melting into the earth on my side or tummy after a long weary day.Waking up alive in the natural world there is Nothing like it.Truly glad you got the opportunity to go out try things a little at a time, a little bit more each time.Skys the limit now !🏕️
I discovered your channel a few months ago and love it! But somehow I had missed this video. Last year I spent my first week camping sleeping in a hammock and it was a completely different experience from tent camping! Thank you so much for sharing your adventures with us. experience
I have been watching your more recent videos, but this one popped up from 2 years ago. I had no idea that you have only been doing solo trips for such a short time! I started in my late 30's, before that it was friends, family, kids. But I needed to go, to bring peace to myself. I absolutely LOVE that you took the leap!! And look at you now, I thought that you had been doing it forever! Good on you, always great to stretch yourself!
I have camped in the back country for many years but always with someone. It is now hard to find a buddy so I thought--- If no one will come I will bite the bullet and just give it a go and--- I really enjoy it. No one more surprised than me!
Thank you for sharing other channels to watch, by far you are brave and daring. I love how much you are very knowledgeable about camping because I have non, other than first aid which is very important. Thank you again you are amazing.
Thank you so much Donna Louise. You are defiantly correct about first aid being very important. I am very happy to share my experiences with you. I have been camping for a very long time so I have learned as I go. I am not sure I am very brave or daring but thank you any way.
I’m 40 and have been wanting to enjoy backcountry solitude for several years now, and I’m finally doing it this summer with a bunch of backpacking trips. Hearing about your experiences is so encouraging. Thank you for sharing!
Hello Wendy, I have just found your channel. I have one of those tents and it is comfortable, but I didn’t have a mat and froze my butt off the first time is used it. I went paddling on my paddle - board on a lake and had the most wonderful time. I wasn’t solo, as I had my eldest daughter and eldest son with me. I am still a bit nervous to go solo by myself. You are inspiring to me, to just go for it. ❤️ I love all your forests and lakes.
thank you Nola- No one should feel pressured to go solo camping. I often just don't have an option as few folks want to go off in a tent! lol- I do enjoy having company too. We are very fortunate to have all those forests and lakes for sure. Thanks so much for taking time to comment and watch the videos.
I just found your videos and want to thank you so much for making them. I like my Hennessy Hammock as it is much lighter to carry than a tent. You have helped me to be more determined to do more solo backpacking.
That was great how you canoed to the island and spent the night solo. Really a lovely campsite. What part of the country are you camping in? I live in Washington state and I canoed camp with some friends to an island on Diablo Lake with some friends plus tent camped at a car campground on the Olympic Peninsula near the Pacific Ocean. I haven't camped in years but long to go to the Pacific Ocean again. I'm 70 now and no longer have a tent, but we'll see if I can borrow one or rent one? Thanks for sharing your solo adventure. Happy camping! Jenny ❤
Awesome Wendy. You did it woo-hoo! But I do have to say that it seemed like you been camping solo for a long time. That's very awesome. 😅 Oops 😬 🤭 I hit the send button to early lol 🙃 that's why it says edited 😂 Thank you for sharing your awesome adventure with us I know I loved it that's for sure. So is that your cabin or did you just rent it for a few days. Just wondering 🤔 because that's something to be proud of also staying alone at a cabin. You are a very brave woman. Thanks again for sharing. GOD BLESS YOU KEEP ADVENTURING 🤗HUGS🤗
thank you very much. I have camped all my life , much of it in the backcountry so the transition there wasn't too hard but I was still nervous for sure. The little cabin is family project which my husband and I contributed to along with my son's family. I did help with the build so am proud of that. Im now quite good at putting in screws!!! lots of practice, lol !
You have a very nice spot Wendy and the cabin is nice. Every year we have more rules and permits I was on the PCT twelve years ago and there are several places like half dome and Mt Whitney that are no longer open to hikers even PCT permits are hard to get,In Cali I had to have campfire permit even if you don't build fires .
Hi Wendy. I just found your channel and feel like you and I would get along . 😊. Though I must admit, I cannot crouch down like you do in this video! Looking forward to catching up on your adventures!❤
Hello Louise and welcome. Crouching down isn't the problem, it's the getting up, lol. Really happy to her from you. thank you for taking your time to watch.
Wendy I just came across your Channel about safety nets and bears and spray and at the end you said if you'd like to make a comment or criticize or something like that I could never criticized you you seem to have so much knowledge and I just love the way you speak your calmness your your truth on what you love to do which is camping I'm going to subscribe because I just like to listen to your voice is so calm clear or else I would say in Spanish tranquila
Wendy, how did you over come fear of being completely alone in the woods by the lake?? Bears are my only fear and I mean Only. Other that that I could do it Any advice you could give me. It’s keeping me in the house I’ve moved to Virginia where there are bears roaming about. I have all this camping gear from camping all the time in East Texas where there are next to no bears
Hello Sylvia-Im not familiar with your area so not sure how prevalent your bears are. Here they are mainly in the forested areas but many come into towns where garbage is a big attracter as well as fruit tress and gardens. Their habitant is being eroded here by development. Where I go mainly is into their area where there is lots of room and natural food for them. They aren't habituated to people so stay away. I still do a lot of self talk about reality vs fantasy and focus on what is actually present and real. I try very hard to not go down the road of making myself afraid, especially when nothing is actually happening. I also carry bear spray and always secure my food well away from my sleeping area. not sure if this is helpful.
Well Suzanne- I know the chances in my area are very small and I also take lots of precautions. I weigh out the odds and come up with" a go for it". Everyone's situation is different.I feel It is important that each of us does our own research before making a decision.
Fantastic! I love Girl in the woods! I'll have to check out the other woman's channel as well. I've lived in a van for 2 years before and camped alone in some incredible places. I disperse camped from the Redwood coast in Northern California up to the Columbia River Gorge, over to Chicago, Illinois area and then down thru Nevada, Utah, Colorado and Arizona. It was an incredible adventure that I hope to add to. Part time nowadays but, like you say, adjusting according to age and ability is still better than doing nothing 😊 I must admit that I hoping to see how the heck you got in and out of that hammock 😂 And kept from falling out during the night! 😂
Hi Wendy. Found you from girl in the woods Thank you so much for doing this video. You are inspiring me. I think I’ll start gathering some equipment to do do this. That little camp stove being first. And that thing you use for coffee. What is that.??? Thank you my new friend ❤. Oh and some gloves too. How did you sleep??
The little stove is called a solo lite. It can use alcohol or twigs. I really like it and use it a lot. The coffee thing is a silicone collapsible funnnel which I ordered on line. . Good luck and have fun with your adventures
I just found your channel. Love it!!!!!! You are inspiring. I hope to be able to continue to camp until I’m well into my 100’s. You are an amazing woman. Thank you for your channel and your adventures. I will be watching your channel to catch up.
Aww Wendy! Many happy adventures as you get braver and wiser as a camper. Pretty spoilt where you are, so beautiful. I’m in the uk so it’s ok but you have to go hunting for really wild spots.
Glad you made it back okay, I also watch Brooke's (and her husband Dave's) videos. Not too many of Alexis vids though... Seems to have been a nice adventure, you got guts! Ha! I dunno if I would do that alone, best to be with someone in my opinion. I don't mind being alone on adventures, but when it comes to water travel, I prefer another body around!
Thanks so much for watching. Not really brave. Hopefully reasonably well prepared and determined to give it my best. Ever so glad I did. I love being out there. Take care.
@@wendyoutdoors2230 I just imagine bears coming by. eek! Anyway, I also follow Brooke and her husband's channel! I see a lot of bushcraft channels. I saw a new category called stealth camping. When I saw the silly registration stuff for your spot, I thought you could add a hash tag to your video, #stealthcamping. Lol Anyway, thanks for taking the time to share nature with us!! I have four little ones so it just isn't easy.
@@lawaincooley6788 when my kids were small we took them car 🏕. Still fun. Occasionally I got out for a night with a girl friend and dad stayed home with the family. Rare but wonderful moments too!
Inspiring Wendy, thanks for sharing your adventure. I've done solo camping too, but only in Little Campers or in campgrounds. Would love to do a hammock too. I've been looking at Lawson brand and Haven brand, those you sleep more level like a regular bed. Happy trails to you glad to find your Channel. Diane😊🛶♀️☮️🌎
Thanks Diane for your comments and for taking the time to watch. I’ve recently purchased a haven tent and set it up for the first time this week. I’ll put up a video with my thoughts. Not sure when I’ll get to sleep in it though. Not keen on freezing for the night🥶😂. Don’t think it matters were we go camping it’s getting out doing something we enjoy which matters. Take care
Wendy im glad I found your channel, I like camping also and I like to watch woman camping to learn more from co fellow woman who like to go outdoor but I don’t like to watch almost naked woman doing camping.
You are an awesome inspiration! I am also starting a YT Channel. However my adventures will be solo motorcycle camping...I have been going on solo camp trips since I was about 32, I'm 55 now.. and just love it.. one time I even packed super light, and with 2 trips I had my dog and all my gear on my paddleboardand went across the lake... similar to you in the canoe..but a little tougher balancing and what a blast... I usually car camp, but now after 1 year of backing research and now heading to baja for a bit, then 1 year in Australia... take care .you are amazing ..new like and sub here
congrats on starting your channel- I hope you have lots of fun with it. I imagine you might watch "itchy Boots" She is beyond amazing. I hope you have an absolutely marvellous journey. Wishing you safe adventures.
@@wendyoutdoors2230 yes of course... being a "well seasoned gal" I hope to inspire others and encourage women and men to get out there and adventure... I watch her and also "on her bike" is awesome also
The confidence with that axe was brilliant and surprising Wendy! You can really tell that you've prepped for many fires just from how you use that tool! There are so many awesome things that you've said about solo camping that really resonated with me! Great to see that you're still really happy being out there and enjoying the outdoors! Brill vid!
thanks for the compliment. I have had wood heat in my home until recent years. Guessing I got lots of practice. Must say I am a way more cautious than I used to be. Not quite as well balanced as when younger. lol. Happy to hear you could identify with some of the content. Yes, I still love getting out there. I need to be outdoors for some of each day to be really happy.
It's brilliant to see Wendy! I live on the coast of the North of the UK in Yorkshire... and do a lot of solo camping by the North Sea... and when your camping where you phone doesn't work and you have to sit with yourself or a book, or some wood carving. It really is peaceful! Just Turned 37 and I'm still loving camping as much as ever! It's very inspirational to watch your UA-cam channel! Bravo and keep up the good work!@@wendyoutdoors2230
I couldn't find any older women campers on You Tube and I knew they existed so my husband suggested I start my own channel. It seemed completely beyond anything I could do but I did some research and wondered"could I do this?" so I gave it a try- Had many many headaches but I gradually figured a few things out and put up a video. No one more surprised than me!!
I recently put up a video on how I do that , you might have a look at my homepage. you will find it quite easily. thanks for watching , " You Asked- How do I load my Canoe"
Cringed, watching you split your kindling. After your first stick, use it to distance yourself from the real danger of the blade bouncing. Press the tip of the stick down on the end of the board/log and whack away with abandon. Solo canoeing and camping is an exercise in prudence balanced with adventure.
Great job Wendy you are so awesome! What an inspiring example you are to others who want to get out there and try a solo overnight too. Keep at it!! she gone....

Wendy I just came across your Channel about safety nets and bears and spray and at the end you said if you'd like to make a comment or criticize or something like that I could never criticized you you seem to have so much knowledge and I just love the way you speak your calmness your your truth on what you love to do which is camping I'm going to subscribe because I just like to listen to your voice is so calm clear or else I would say in Spanish tranquila
wow, many thanks Sandra. I really look forward to hearing from you again and thank you for subscribing
Wendy, how did you over come fear of being completely alone in the woods by the lake?? Bears are my only fear and I mean Only. Other that that I could do it
Any advice you could give me. It’s keeping me in the house
I’ve moved to Virginia where there are bears roaming about.
Wendy, I'm so impressed you tried a hammock. I could never do that. Aren't you afraid of bears? I'm going to go tent camping but I am afraid of bears.
Well Suzanne- I know the chances in my area are very small and I also take lots of precautions. I weigh out the odds and come up with" a go for it". Everyone's situation is different.I feel It is important that each of us does our own research before making a decision.
Beautiful place 😊
yes, I am fortunate.
Part time nowadays but, like you say, adjusting according to age and ability is still better than doing nothing 😊
I must admit that I hoping to see how the heck you got in and out of that hammock 😂 And kept from falling out during the night! 😂
That was really quite easy . thanks for watching and the best on your adventures.
I will be watching your channel to catch up.
absolutely! I hope you make to the 100 's. enjoy
Really enjoying your videos and seeing such a gorgeous area
Again, just wonderful. Love listening to you and in such a wonderful place....
Thanks for listening. Really appreciate you taking your time to do that.
Good for you ! Love being out in Nature ❤️
Darn rights Jan- I am with you on that.
Aww Wendy! Many happy adventures as you get braver and wiser as a camper. Pretty spoilt where you are, so beautiful. I’m in the uk so it’s ok but you have to go hunting for really wild spots.
You are truly inspiring to me! Get it girl!
thanks again Dolores. I am quite overwhelmed with all the support.
You are brave! I enjoyed the relaxing dose of wilderness. Thank you for sharing your experience!!
Take care
Wendy im glad I found your channel, I like camping also and I like to watch woman camping to learn more from co fellow woman who like to go outdoor but I don’t like to watch almost naked woman doing camping.
got it!
You are such an inspiration.thank you
Hi Sadie- thanks a lot for your comment. I hope to live up to it.
What a beautiful site!!!
thanks Sharron. I really enjoyed myself. Loved the evening view,
You are an awesome inspiration!
I watch her and also "on her bike" is awesome also
@@MotoCocoTV when you get your channel going send me ahead up!
Hello I just found your channel and I subscribed to your channel today I think it's very beautiful where you're at😊
Thank you so much!
Just found your channel. Glad you enjoyed your solo trip. That was a beautiful campsite. Hope to see more solo trips. Enjoy and be safe out there!
hello Dennis, thanks so much for subscribing. Been a bit laid up for a bit but planning to be back out there enjoying the good life soon.
Wendy, what made you want to start your channel?? Just curious!!
@@wendyoutdoors2230 well good for you, your doing a fine job, thanks again I know it’s a lot of work🙏
Love your videos! How do you load your canoe onto the car?
I recently put up a video on how I do that , you might have a look at my homepage. you will find it quite easily. thanks for watching , " You Asked- How do I load my Canoe"
i aspire to be this age and still be able to enjoy God's beautiful creation!
😀
Hi. Believe it or not, I have a hammock in my spare bedroom, and I sleep in it often.
That is awesome! many absolutely love hammocks. enjoy
👌👌✌✌👍👍❤❤🌹🌹😊😊
thank you very much
I have a channel and I spend nights in the woods alone. But it does terrify me ha ha
funny how it works that way and then we do it again!! Bella looks like a great dog. enjoy
I did subscribe too bye Mary
Thanks Mary
just being out in that air makes you more hungry
Absolutely, thanks for watching. Appreciate your comments too.
Cringed, watching you split your kindling. After your first stick, use it to distance yourself from the real danger of the blade bouncing. Press the tip of the stick down on the end of the board/log and whack away with abandon. Solo canoeing and camping is an exercise in prudence balanced with adventure.
thanks for the tip
lol I like paddling my kayak more than my canoe…but it sure is easier getting in and out of my canoe!!!😊🏕️
absolutely!
