- A review of John Wick 4 looking at what makes the action so amazing and why the movie overall is a masterpiece. Truly an outstanding movie and Keanu Reeves is still going strong.

One of the most touching moments was when John saved Mr Nobody’s dog
honestly, I loved every part of Mr. Nobody
@@CollectMyP4ges was a bit of a pointless character tho
@@Coldvader he saved John on a ton of different occasions
@@CollectMyP4ges so did a few random car drivers. You could have easily removed him from the movie and it wouldn't have made a difference
@@Coldvader thats what i thought too, but at least he wasn't an awful character, and the film didn't waste much time explaining his backstory or smth like that so im good with it
The Dragon Breath sequence is by far the most impressive action sequence ever and my favorite of the franchise.
That top down sequence reminds me of hotline miami, now we need a John wick hot line Miami style game
@@halogalaxy5612 video game vibes 100%
@@halogalaxy5612 Try Midnight Fight Express :)
@Castelar Garcia man, this is a masterpiece, this must be known as one of the best films in history and by far the best action movie, I mean the franchise. This is incomparably
@@halogalaxy5612 I had the same thought! Made me think how the scene would be with some Carpenter Brut!
The fact that the movie only has the budget of 100 million $ blows my mind when it is such a famous movie series
No useless fluff
It also looks way more expensive something about just looks extremely expensive like around a marvel movie expensive
And 100m is the highest budget of the franchise by 25m. Even more insane.
It was 60M for Chad. 40 is for marketing campaign. Chad is so capable. So effective (JW3 Chad, in his own words, got around 50 ish. Another 25M is for marketing.)
@@jomontanee I don't think budget accounts for marketing, it's usually another 80% of said budget
Every scene, I had to pray that the stuntmen were ok, cause it’s really insane the type of shit they are trying to pull off.
According to Keanu he cut a guys head open. Don't think we will be seeing that footage.
Right!??? They were Wildin in this movie!
I was thinking about how many of them broke bones throughout the process.
I know Rina Sawayama said in an interview that she ended up throwing her back out during one scene as well, so I imagine it was a tough one to film 😂 probably half of the cast have some sort of injury story to tell
@@hkazu63 except Ian Mcshane, Clancy Brown and Laurence Fishburne
I think we need to admit that John Wick has adamantium bones or something. The cinema was laughing so hard at him rolling down the stairs 😂
In all seriousness, probably my favourite action movie of all time.
Yeah. And that fall at the end of house shootout was a little bit ridiculous.
@@solidusgolidus5157 bro jumped off of a 20 storey building and survived. Honestly, that is the least ridiculous thing in the franchise at this point.
He simply can't die from cars or falling. He's just immune to it.
That scene😂 when he is rolling I was like hey can you just stop😅
That Marquis bodyguard is really hard to kill. My audience was laughing when he suddenly showed up at the staircase scene
Wasn't expecting anything less from the John Wick sequel
I was, it was to much action and to less dialog, John said in rhis movie less words than main antagonist xd
@@Challanger463 you really gonna complain about the dialogue in the action movie
I was expecting a lot… and yet my expectations were GREATLY exceeded.
@@Challanger463 You're watching hardcore action movies for the dialogue? :D
John delivered the one-liners, which is all he had to do.
@@tromboneman4517 hm, thanks for your opinion, I am seeing it this monday in the theater
The part where Akira is riding on some big dudes back and she just stabs him over and over as he tries to climb up a set of stairs was amazing.
That scene was slow and unrealistic
@@Insitemobile imagine complaining about realism in a fucking John wick movie lol
@@Insitemobile John rolling down those stairs and falling out of a building is unrealistic
@@natedoggcata Complaining or not, that scene not being realistic is a fact. Not sure why you're getting so mad about, not everyone is forced to like a style in specific and that's a totally valid critique. John Wick is filled with good fictional action scenes, however, if we're talking about realistic ones, there's a whole other world of titles that blow this one out off the water.
@@natedoggcata IT WAS ONLY REALISTIC TO SOMEONE WHO HAS NEVER HAD A STREET FIGHT IN A BIG CITY

That entire sequence of fights in Paris were perhaps the best fights ever put to screen, rivalled only by Fury Road.
I loved Donnie Yens' toned down drunken master movement style. It was funny, ridiculous, and amazing, all at the same time. He made it seem so natural and realistic.
It shows how incredible Donnie Yen is. The fact that I’m watching a blind man shoot guns precisely and I remotely buy it at all is a testament to Donnie physical performance.
Donnie Yen absolutly stole this movie alongside Keanu, what a performance by him
It was absolutely glorious. One of the best action films of all time.
You really liked Leslie chow as daredevil? How about those weirdos dancing at the clubs evenly spaced out, continuing to dance, as gun fire goes off? This was the worst produced of the John Wick series.
@@upgrade1015 You’re a guru on film production?
@@upgrade1015 the whole point of the franchise is that the public knows of them, they don’t kill innocent. And they all ended up leaving when it got too escalated anyways. Your a bozo
As long as i kept my brain turned off and a fight was going on it was an ok action movie, but as soon as i started processing what my eyes saw it was just... stupid. The only really good scene IMO is the fight in the house near the end where the camera shows the action from a top-down view as in a videogame. Donnie was great had a few laughs from him too
I didn’t think he was cocky at all, he was actually super chill, tried to avoid killing people he didn’t have to, and showed mad respect to John

That fight scene shot from above... man... it was so good and realistic! Maybe the movie lasted to long.. and way more dialogue then in previous 3 JW.. but man it was an amazing movie!
I would say Laurence Fishburne character didn't add much on this movie!
Agreed, Lawrence Fishburne didn't add much, but it was still good and welcomed. The homage to the Matrix (subway scene) was a nice touch. Lots of Easter eggs
True statement on the LF role.
Shit was like Hotline Miami bro
Reminded me of Hotline Miami
JW4 is a good 80 minute movie trapped inside a 170 minute snoozefest 😴😴
Comparing the John Wick movies with classic Jackie Chan productions is actually pretty accurate. This franchise is pretty much the modern equivalent of what Jackie did in the 80''s and 90's. Groundbreaking action movies with strong focus on practical stunts and literally revolutionizing the industry in their respective eras,
The Raid series is more revolutionary than John Wick.
Would be groundbreaking if main actor is not slow... It's so noticeable with Keanu that he have problems due to age to do some things. Fighting scenes were terrible as most actors are old now and the other fighters were with some handicap in movie for an obvious reason.
I was expecting a great film but damn wasn't expecting the greatest action movie ever

I'm used to seeing actors from other countries get wasted in Hollywood movies. They did NOT waste Donnie Yen and Hiroyuki Sanada here. I'm very happy for that.
they kinda wasted Hiroyuki though, his death was sorta wierd and unecessary as well. Just sets up the post credits I guess
@@Arashicasts I actually saw a really interesting take on this from another YTer. I can try and find the link if you’re interested, but basically they said it was Shimazu’s choice to die protecting a friend, and his daughter’s reaction, to it, that first made Caine question his plan to serve his way out of the High Table, and set up his arc for the rest of the film. Which culminated in Caine helping John up the steps, and working together to take down The Marquee. I thought that was really interesting, and I could see scenes in the movie that supported that.
@@zigster1298 that actually makes much a lot of sense. He ultimately did end protecting John in the end which is a nice touch.

@@Arashicasts It wasn't unecessary. If he let Caine just leave without a fight, the High Table would inevitably return to kill him and his daughter for good. By dying at Caine's hand, he's sparing his daughter.
John Wick 4 is an action marathon of revenge, betrayal, and action-packed spectacle of gunfights and explosions. Keanu Reeves has embodied the character John Wick with skill and charisma, and he has shown once again why he is a legend of action cinema.😊
@Keanu Reeves I’m afraid to give you my name and my location because you might be working for the High Table.😊
If they ever release all of them in the theaters back to back to I’m soooooo there. My husband was like OMG YES. We are so there!!
Surprised the post credits scene wasn’t John falling down those stairs for a full minute
we got something even better..
a Spin Off
The importance of the presence of those dudes with fully bulletproof gear from the get-go cannot be overstated. The reason why I kept rewatching JW3 was because of the hotel siege and the concept of almost invincible hordes of foes that forces John to kill them VERY up-close and personal. Having them from the very beginning helped this movie a lot. I’ve never watched the same movie twice when it came out in theaters. JW4 is the exception.
The last indoor fight scene with overhead camera was just next level !!
Couldn’t agree more. When he was shooting people with that fire gun, the overhead view was just fantastic! The cinematography in this film was spectacular
That made the entire movie for me.
Free fire style epic
He shot a guy in the balls with it too
The scene made me think of Hotline Miami with the camera movement
This 100% deserves to be seen in theatres and in imax. It’s amazing. Worth every penny. Holy crap. I’m speechless after watching this. Incredible movie. 👏👏👏
Couldn't have said it better myself
I was already sold on this film being an action masterpiece but the last act paying homage to 'The Warriors' (one of my favorite movies ever) and having its own rendition to an Ennio Morricone song like it was straight out of 'The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly' literally made me fall out of my seat in the theater.
Yes I wondered how many young fans are even aware of that classic gang film though there was already a hint on the radio chick reference in the trailer. I had an ex boyfriend loved that movie and a brother or else I would not have known. It's from 79 I think.

The Osaka sequence is so full of tension, gried and beauty! Not only did they make a hard hitting action movie but also a visual treat!
That scene when John is looking up at the stairs made me laugh because the guy is SO tired and then he has to try and walk up 200 steps when his enemies look down at him

John wick is what Steven seagal thinks or fantasizes he is or the type of movies he’s making but in reality it’s night and day!
That bit at the start where that stuntman was launched down an escalator is probably one of the most brutal stunts I’ve seen done. That guy deserves all the respect possible

I don't care if this movie is 3 Hour long. I love every second of this movie ❤and i am going to watch this movie again
The Berlín nightclub and the Paris sequence will be iconic
The dragon breath scene is my new fav action scene , it was the kitchen fight in the raid 2 but this takes the cake , i was smiling so hard watching that scene.
This movie will change cinema for decades
just came out of the movie theatre, it was insane
I’d love to see more than 4 hours of John wick , didn’t want this movie to end
This is movie needs every stunt team award that exists of what they pulled off in term of action.
Donnie Yen is the personification of absolute badass. Stahelski elevated his status as a film director, and Donnie absolutely stole the show his fighting was smooth and slick
Donnie yen “the force is with me, I am with the force”
What i love (and dont love) is how different each one of the movie feels in terms of how John fights, the location and the variation in antagonists
One of the best action movies ever made
This all started with some russain kid killing a dog
When the tune for "paint it black hit" as the entire city was lining up to a shot at him and was walking into it about to fulfill the promise he made to Winston about "killing them all" I was slipping out of my seat in excitement
There is also a potential spinoff of Akita/Akira seeking revenge against Donny Yens character
I see that happening too, i was too obvious
That DJ aspect was a nod to The Warriors from 1979.
Best action movie since Fury Road!
John wick in 3: gets thrown into a bunch of glass
John wick in 4: falls down a bunch of stairs for 5 minutes
I'm late to the party but I finally got to see the movie today. Highly impressed! Probably one of the best movies I've ever seen. And when I saw those assassins loading up dragon breath rounds, I immediately was like. Why are they going to give John Wick dragon breath rounds because you know that's what's going to happen and that's exactly what happened.
This was probably one of the top 3 best action movies I’ve seen in my life.
Every scenes are masterpiece except that one time when black van with no driver crashes John on the busy traffic scene. It made me giggle.
Action Masterpiece...No Question~!
Unreal how great this movie is. It is amazing that we've gotten 4 super high quality films in the series. That top down dragon fire shot was one of the best things I have ever seen in film. The lighting, cinematography, choreography, and everything was just top shelf. If ever an action movie deserved an Oscar nod for Best Picture, this is the one.
10/10 movie, that duel scene was phenomenal
Might have my take of the best film of 2023 so far. Excellent way to end the series, and done in an appropriate manner (saying this is the last film) that feels genuine.
Best action sequences ever I swear
From a cinematography and production standpoint, it is an incredible action movie that might be without parallel. However, I take serious issue with those claiming this is a movie masterpiece.
It isn't.
The comprehensive requirements to qualify as a masterpiece demand more clever writing and internal consistency within the universe created in a franchise. JW4 is glaringly lacking in both.
What it is is a near parody of the action genre, dragging out fight scene after fight scene to the point of numbing monotony, with a protagonist who isn't susceptible to the same rules of combat or mortality as anyone else in the universe. They turned John Wick from an elite assassin into a video game character pumped full of cheat codes so they could film dragon breath sequences from above (which are not remotely accurate to how that shotgun shell actually functions), and a silly stair climb that I assume is meant to be symbolic of Wick's journey. There's excessive action for the sake of spectacle, and then there's the ludicrous level of plot armor and gratuitous 1 vs. dozens fight sequences for scene after scene that this movie displays. By the end of the movie, and especially after JW3, it just gets boring seeing Wick destroy waves of professional killers without facing any meaningful consequences. For a movie which made 'consequences' one of its motifs, the irony is almost infuriating.
In a way, JW4 and the rave reviews it's receiving are perfectly emblematic of our time: a production that is technically brilliant, filled with A-list actors, and a marvelous spectacle for the senses, but equally lacking in the craft of story telling, internally consistent universe structure, or satisfying story arcs. It is like a pure grade cocaine for cinema: all the short term fun, and devoid of anything long lasting. 20 years ago, The Shawshank Redemption gave us a story that will impact for ages. 20 years from now, the John Wick series will be lost in the annals of cinema as just another gratuitous spectacle of smash-bang-pow.
The world building of the High Table and the potential for a revolutionary war against it was right there, ripe for writers to develop into a masterful cinematic universe. Sadly, I fear the spinoffs just aren't going to do that potential justice.
It was fun to watch, but it saddens me seeing how many slack-jawed simpletons think this movie is some sort of generational work of art when it's little more than the best roller coaster at Disney World.
At least it deserves an oscar nomination for Best Sound or Best Cinematography.
Insanely good movie but i didnt like the falling physics. John was falling off buildings and stuff , it wasnt really needed plus ruins the realism.
I can’t believe he fell out of that building onto the car. I wish someone would point out how many bones he’s broken
The best and definitely will watch it again on cinema 👏✨
No it is only good enterteinment, it lacks a good script, it lacks good acting, it lacks a depth, it is an excellent piece of acrobatics and technical capabilities and a fresh way to present them but as a movie it only 30% of what a masterpiece should be, it is only that standards have gone very low.
-I saw this today. I went in with huge expectations because of how good this series has been. I also went in with the notion that I might be going in with way too high expectations and ready to be disappointed. The first 20 minutes was crazy and I was waiting for it to be less. It didn’t.
-As for the “oner”, I’m a huge fan of them also but the way it was done was even better. However, the part made me REALLY love it was the music. I was losing my mind.
-Agreed on awards for cinematography. They at least deserve a nomination or two. Just fantastic.
-I saw Chapter 3 twice in the theatre. So, I’m going back at least once.
absolutely blown away by this movie. It was a 9 or 10 for me in the action movie category. it was just non stop. I could not believe how quickly the time went.
Top Gun 2 was the last entertaining thing I saw in cinema. JW4 topped it off
John Wick 4 is one of the best action movies ever made. It's actually incredible.
I loved how the movie, especially the fight scenes didn’t take themselves seriously and just went full creative brutality. It’s like the Kingsman church scene, but better and 3 hours long. Also when they set up the last part of the movie where usually you’d think it would be done in 30 min, then hit us with 1:30 hours of brutality goodness. I adore that movie and have never laughed so much at senseless violence. Never laughed so much in any movie for that matter, my voice was gone after. One of the moments that is stuck in my head towards the ridiculousness of the movie, besides the obvious is one scene on the stairs in Paris, is where Donnie Yen is fighting enemies, but because he’s blind, randomly shoots into nothingness 😂😂😂
Also, whoever thinks the Berlin club scene (the real club scene) is anything like shown, be advised it’s wrong. What was shown was not even close to how it is. Basically imagine less clothes, more ppl, more fucked up ppl, and better music, but they did nail the no one giving a shit attitude to what’s going around you, that’s accurate. Also props to them for getting the actual Berghain main Bouncer to play Klaus, that was hilarious how all he said was „I am Klaus“
I know there will be a good amount of people who probably don't know this. The woman speaking into the mic and playing music is a direct homage to the warriors movie. If you've never seen it I'd recommend a watch it's a classic
Don't forget we're watching actors pushing 60 outperform action stars half their age. That's crazy
Sanada is 62 and still does all of his own stunts. For comparison, Shamier Anderson is half his age and the youngest of the main cast. Incredible.
@@redbloodcell4047 Crazy stuff, dedication like that is awe inspiring

Honestly, this movie is probably not going to be nominated for any Oscar’s, but it should. The set design was amazing. Bill Skarsgard’s costumes? I was obsessed. Every time he came on screen, I was just like, “Damn! He looks good.” Also, the sound on this movie was incredible. The cinematography was beautiful as well.
I'm pretty sure most of that $100 mill budget was spent on Bill Skarsgard's suits, and the rest on the fact they were often filming on location (i.e. in Paris).
This and the Raid is outstanding
What?! This was a HORRIBLE movie. They cant even pick a direction on the plot. And why does killing the bad guy get him free? He was killing the table but drops that quickly. And hes basically invincible in this one. Hes not a superhero. Theres no stakes when hes invincible. u like bad movies
Why does killing the bad guy let him free? U know guys like this will just be raging when they don't even listen to the dialogue. I'm not even going to answer your question, that's how dumb it is, the fact that half the scenes in this movie answered ur question. And since when was there a jump between John being invincible. In John Wick 1, he was hit in the head with a baseball bat, so John's should be permanently in a wheelchair. John Wick 2, he gets hit by a grenade launcher, so he's dead. John Wick 3, he fell off a building. In fact, John Wick 4 had the most survivable injuries compared to the others as every single fall and hit he took were completely survivable if u actually do ur research. Plus the fact he does actually die by the end. Go back to watching Mi Dead Reckoning, where Ethan will conveniently parachute in the correct carriage at the exact time that Grace is about to die and the exact location which is required to save her life, and then not being blown out of the train immediately after, which should have happened. Talk about plot armour. And then my man critices the direction of the plot when dead reckoning literally made up the f****** story as the filming went on. John Wick 4 reigns over Dead Reckoning and is only rivalled by the Raid in terms of quality so I know that comments like these just are just sentient NPCs that can't even see the quality of a movie.
The top down camera scene was insane.
