  • I'm creating a Banyan style with my Ficus benghalensis trying to develop low spreading branches and aerial roots.
    I also continue scarring the trunks of my Crassula in my Jade forest.

    I wanted to see the Aurora Borealis from NYC, but unfortunately we had a cloudy night that day. Thank you Nigel for sharing it with us!

    Please make a detailed video on your compost making process. It would be really informative.
    Secondly, I've seen the largest bonsai ever in your yard😂that was nice indeed.
    And thirdly, the famous Indian Botanical Garden is just 30 minutes from my home. And there is that massive Banyan tree which is thought to be nearly 250 years old.
    Also, it is approximately 1000 feet in circumference. It is so huge that one cannot find the actual trunk of it.
    It is thought that the original trunk has dried up long ago, and the tree is surviving with its hundreds aerial supporting roots. I urge you to please see some pictures of it. I bet, you will be glad to see it.
    With love, Kuntal.

    Everything's looking good. I wonder what else you could turn into a "Baobab" and I hope your actual Baobab will do well, too. I'm looking forward to their development!
    The Aurora looked fascinating. I hope I can see it myself someday!

      I hope the latest round of scarring works well, I have the tree in front of the fan to dry out the wounds and hopefully all will go well!!!

    Try an undercut just an inch below where you will do the top cut. That way you will not risk the bark peeling off all the way down to the trunk as the branch falls. Just a thought to help.

    The jade forest is cool. Scarring on the trunks makes a great tutorial for learning on how to do it.

    Our bengalensis (sp) are at almost the exact same stage right now! How fun; can't wait to grow mine along with you, you are one pruning ahead of me, but I have two large leaders coming up now just like you did, just letting them thicken a bit more, but our trunks are so similar in girth! I'm jealous of that lower branch you have!

    And to think, you've still got the basement trees to contend with.
    Lol I recently got one of your vertical scars from my eye down my cheek...A stack of flooring fell and cut my face during the move.
    I kinda like the scars. 🙈

    At one point, I believe, you said that the scarring you were doing was to imitate elephants rubbing their tusks against the trunks. Is that true?

    Nigel, do you think running a warm mist humidifier for your temple would be useful for maintaining moisture and humidity for longer periods during the of time during the day?

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  4 місяці тому +1

      The greenhouse vents open up when the temperature climbs and I loose a lot of humidity in the daytime, I might move it to the polyhouse and keep it more sealed up for better humidity!

  • @adamnorris8006

    Nigel what does the plant room humidity stay at? don't forget one to two on that big maple hehe jk

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  4 місяці тому

      They slowly got weak and died, they do really well in the ground, but in a pot, they never seem to live. It may need cool roots?

  • @CoNkOrE
    @CoNkOrE 4 місяці тому

    We had a very late frost and my bengalensis completely died down to the ground. Luckily I’ve gotten a few little leaves coming out at the ground level but so much growth just gone now!
