I actually did watch the entire selection, so here's my full ranking for those curious: 1. Karin Duff - Breaking Bad 2. Denise - Mara 3. Sarah Bonnici - Loop 4. Michela Galea - Let's Talk About Love 5. MATT BLXCK - Banana 6. Oxygyn - Cloudmaker 7. Mark Anthony Bartolo - Condition or Fiction 8. Dominic Cini - Bewsa 9. Greta Tude - Topic (Bla Bla) 10. I also don't get, why Cloudmaker didn't make it, yeah, M7chela got powerful vocals, b7t her song wasn't it. Eliana should have advanced as well, but her song was rather boring and not as great as Guess What. But otherwise, everyone who shouldn't have qualified didn't make it, yet, there's still some rather boring songs in the final. Plus, bananas and Topic (Bla Bla) aren't great, but get the benefits of a doubt as joke entries. Other entries like Mara, Loop, or Srenas could at least be saved by revamps, backing vocals, maybe chord progression, etc, in a way that it makes their entry more energetic. Plus with a good staging.
My country made questionable choices to say the least!. But from what's left I think that Mara, Sirena or to some extent Loop can maybe qualify!. Please Malta qualify🙏. I think that with Banana we will be the laughing stock of Europe and with Karma last place with 0 points like you said
Banana has a lot of potential for an attention-grabbing stage show that could get votes. Mara and Loop are both great, but realistically speaking I think Sirena would have the best chance of qualifying if they can refine the live performance.
I like that you included a honorable mentions section for the songs you liked that didn't make it through. I'm planning something similar in my own ranking.
I don't usually do those (I only did it for Moldova last year) and I probably won't for many other selections, but I just had to this time because of how bizarre the qualifiers were lol
Oh man, having Venom immediately following Breaking Bad in this video just gets you going, "What were they thinking?" There's just no way it offers anything that Breaking Bad doesn't offer, in much larger quantities and in a much more interesting way.
-i still think there's almost 0 chance of qualifying with these entries, but i do agree that banana is probably the best choice. i don't see it happening, but these entries are unpredictable so maybe the public will latch onto it. -i didn't see bewsa doing massive moves or anything but i think with a good performance it could have totally qualified. -and yeah wild card was the one i least expected. i cannot sing it back even now, totally unmemorable.
The thing is that Matt Blxck almost won last year with a MUCH worse song (he even won the jury vote!). He honestly probably would've taken it if not for The Busker. So, realistically, it's gonna be either him or Ryan Hili (who came second) unless the Maltese public gets really attached to something like Loop or Mara, or even Sirena. That said, some Maltese people I know have said that the locals there are going the hardest for those two entries.
@@JH3Eurovision i would argue that up is a better song than this lmao, but theyre both pretty bad. up was more coherent, banana is more chaotic though. i hope they choose matt to be honest, mostly on the basis that if we had to watch this so does the rest of europe. it might be my last place but that doesn't matter.
Agree with the top 2. I don't think either of them has a chance of winning, so I hope at least that Ryan Hili will prevail over Matt Blxck. My favourite of the whole selection (judging by snippets) was probably 'Arrows'. Not a popular opinion, though I can see why it was rejected. Oh, and 'Bewsa' sure deserved better.
I had a feeling you wouldn't like Banana very much lol. Was not at all a fan of Arrows myself. Very very boring, even moreso than most of the other ballads.
Not enough entries to justify a timestamp comment, so here’s my own ranking: *1. MAN* Totally understand why most dislike it, but it’s the only qualifier I like, mostly for its Film Noir like music. Plus, the current issues are fixable. *2. Sirena* Not bad and probably the best one of all the fan favorites! (assuming this is a fan favorite) *3. Ghost* Considering how bad the competition is, I’ll gladly take generic but competent any day. *4. Loop* Ditto *5. MARA* Ditto but add in the fact that the lyrics are kind of annoying. But I won’t deny it’s the most competent entry of all of these. *6.Breathe* *7. Karma* *8. Tell Me That It’s Over* I don’t have much to say about any of these. *9. Venom* A really annoying mess of a song. *10. Topic* Honestly it’s kinda irritating. Bad enough that the chorus is just “blah blah blah…” but when she starts singing it too I physically cringe. Not her fault of course, just a subpar song. *11. Wild Card* The fact that this qualified over There’s Only Flowers is one of the most “??????????????” results in anything ever. At least that actually goes somewhere, unlike this one. It’s just kind of…nothing. I feel absolutely nothing watching it, and for the most part I prefer songs that annoy me. *12. BANANA* God is dead *Honorable Mentions* Bewsa: Self-explanatory Cloudmaker: Authentic, interesting, and I really like their voices and they fit perfectly with the song. Empire: My favorite by a wide margin. It does need improvement, but it’s one of the more well put together songs of this contest.
I wouldn't call Sirena an absolute fan favorite but it's probably a tier below Loop, Mara, and Banana in terms of fan hype. So, not too bad. I never even thought about the difference in quality between Wild Card and There's Only Flowers but you're completely right. Honestly, There's Only Flowers was better than EVERY ballad that made it (except Karma). I was actually very confident that Eliana would qualify just because she's already known for her JESC participation (and because she got to the Final last year with a much worse song). I'm not really a fan of Empire tbh, I just think there was no charisma in the performance. That said, it stood out in this lineup and I would've had it in the Final for that reason. It adds more to the lineup than at least half of the qualifiers.
Not unreasonable because the lyrics are kinda bad ("bow down and kiss my tiara"?????). It's a case where the song is catchy enough that I can overlook it, though.

Funny that the most surprising qualifier is a song called Wild Card😂
I hope Mara wins

Exactly. I knew Breaking Bad was done for as soon as they put Venom through. And Venom was announced first!!!

Were the audio mixers out for a beer?
The sad thing is that the audio mixing in this tiny low-budget production was still better than in JESC 2023.
I find mara very repetitive and a little generic and cringy. I really hope Loop or Sirena wins
