So... as the title already tells, this is only my top based on the performances in the Semi-Final! I'm pretty sure tho that alot of things will change after we see their music videos and of course the performances in the final. you can see which 12 contestants i would want to see in the final again in this top tho. Everything can still change! I'm excited to see what'll follow! :)
The only thing is, I'm sure they are going to pick 3 from each SF. Otherwise, that would be really unfair just because more people might've watched one SF more than others so we could see 5 from one week and 1 from another just because of that, you know? I know they have 36 numbers instead of repeating 1-9 each week so maybe I'm wrong, and if I am, I hope the juries (yeah, they are there apparently) will prevent any robberies from occurring. (This is in response to your last line about which 12 songs you'd like to see in the final.)
@@ESCSteph yes, i had doubts about this kind of system because of this too. I dont know how they'll do it in the end. Idk if it would be more fair when its like translated in percentages of all the votes together that day. But iirc they already did it like that in MESC last year (qualifiers from all semis instead of a few of each). Let's see. I doubt they will make it public in any case (like how they calculated it). Cause I'm also wondering how the juries voted... a top 36 or a top 9 of each semi?! Questions over Questions
@@ESCedi Oh, you are totally right! I didn't follow MESC last year tbh so I didn't know how they chose the semifinalists last year but I looked at how many qualified from each quarterfinal and it was 7 from QF1, 8 from QF2 and 9 from QF3. Hmmm, it's hard to know how the juries voted. Maybe since they haven't announced the results (and I bet they don't until next Friday), the juries probably ranked all 36 songs against each other. Well, fingers crossed for no robberies!
@@ESCSteph yeah if i understood it right they'll actually make a "Semi-Final 5" in which only the qualifiers will be announced lol. Anyways, if i'm free i'll probably tune in cause I always love to watch the reactions to the announcements that someone qualified. And another chaos nf starts that day: UVPSM auditions 😂 i dont think i'll make tops for this HAHA
So, we've gotten all the songs now and you know, I don't care if this is an unpopular opinion but I don't think this selection is all that bad. Like, of course it doesn't seem as strong generally as it could but so much of that is the set they're on. No LEDs, tiny stage, no choreography. Even Melfest wouldn't seem as strong if they had to do their first 4 SFs in a set up like this. And like, to me, this is a much better year than 2023 especially (I only liked 3, maybe 4, songs) as well as 2022. Anyway, I like Tell Me That It's Over, but not nearly as much as you do, since, as you know, I'm not the biggest ballad fan in the world. Really like your 2nd-4th places (Loop, Mara, and Better Off Alone [BOA is my personal winner btw]). If they do choose 3 from each SF here's what I'd go with: SF1- Bewsa, Loop, There's Only Flowers SF2- Mara, Puppet, Tell Me That It's Over or Moving On or Man SF3- Better Off Alone, Breaking Bad, Numb (I still think the melody for Numb is so good but I guess I'm the only one as I've yet to see anyone else say they like it.) SF4- Banana, Serena, Venom
That's so true! My ratings would probably be better with a more improved presentation. What I also already thought about is that people always exaggerate how bad MESC is. If we would see such a large edition of other national finals, it would lower the overall quality too. If you only look at the top acts from MESC sometimes, it is strong. However, I think this year is actually one of the weaker years - I know that's like the opposite of your opinion. I really loved 2022 & 2023 where I had alot of songs that were 10/10 for me and i actually still listen to a few of them regulary. But this year can still be elevated by the finalists. When it comes to the choices u made for the sf qualifiers, im surprised we kind of agree on all choices. The only one I'd switch is probably "Numb". I'd rather see "Blood Stream" 🙈
@@ESCedi It's become like the cool thing to do to pick on MESC. Even in Malta I guess a lot of people pick on it. (I know because believe it or not I'm learning Maltese and my teacher told me that a lot of people think it's a joke - he also isn't too impressed generally but he does watch the finals every year). But the way I look at it now is that the country only has like 500k people which is smaller than the population of the city I live near and I can only imagine what a mess a national final type of show would be if 36 artists were chosen from my city only. Also, you know something I was thinking about? What if the selection committee would choose all the wrong songs every year if they only chose 12 (or whatever) songs? I'm thinking of Agoney from Benidorm Fest who was ranked 15th by the selection committee so if they'd gone with 14 artists the way they did the year before, we never would've even heard of his song! And of course it nearly made it to Eurovision. (And I love it so I'm forever grateful for that.) As for you preferring 2022 and 2023 that's certainly fair and now I'm curious as to what your faves are from those years (like all those songs you ranked 10/10 - please tell me Ritmu is one of them since that's one of the few MESC songs I still listen to).
@@ESCSteph spot on! I agree and actually didn't know about the thing with Agoney until now! Whew, luckily we've been able to see his amazing song and performance! He was also my favorite. A few songs I love and actually still listen to more or less are (in random order, not all 10/10 but if listed at least close to that): Ritmu (Aidan 2022) Boy (Denise 2022) Look What You've Done Now (Miriana Conte 2022) Into The Fire (Nicole Azzopardi 2022) Out Of Sight (Emma Muscat 2022) SHAME (Enya Magri 2022) Revelacción (Giada 2022) Checkmate (Brooke 2023) Creeping Walls (Nathan 2023) Alone (Maxine Pace 2023) Regina (Aidan 2023 if that counts) Up. (Matt Blxck 2023) Dance (The Busker 2023) Sound of my Stilettos (Greta Tude 2023) Guess What (Eliana Gomez Blanco 2023)
@ESCedi I knew (and have enjoyed) all of your faves from 2022. From 2023 I knew them except for Sound of My Stilettos since I have to admit I only have played the finalists before (except for Aidan since I'm a big fan of his) so I really should check that out too. It's a shame that Greta Tude's song this year was such a step down. You were probably really excited for her entry this year before you heard it. And yeah you can count Aidan - Regina because even though he was DQ'd he still had one of the 40 original entries. (And that's one of the ones I like the best from 2023.) Very happy to see Dance (Our Own Party) amongst the entries you still play 😍
@@ESCSteph yeah I was rly hyped for SF4 with all those names: Matt Blxck, Miriana Conte, Greta Tude (also Erba' as I saw the song was co-written by KEiiNo's Tom Hugo; and Ryan Hili as I know he is an incredible singer & i hoped his song will be even better than "In The Silence" from last year) - in the end i was less impressed than i thought i will be of SF4 but still enjoyed it!

My Top 5:
1. Matt Blxck - BANANA
2. Greta Tude - TOPIC
3. Denise - MARA
4. Erba' - SIRENA
5. Sarah Bonnici - Loop
Thank you for sharing your top 36
hey, and thanks to you for your comment 😍great choices too!
ngl this is a very good national final, my favs are bewsa, sirena and numb
Nu nu nu nu numb! Have to admit that part is kind of stuck to my head 🙈
Your number one is a powerful song for Eurovision.
Yes 😍
I feel like cloudmaker is criminally underrated, it's my personal fav and u've put it 19th :/
