The original by Nine Inch Nails was one of two atypical songs from the same album which were more passive than aggressive, and each were I think the most 'musical' songs of the album

This is my favorite cover that Johnny Cash ever did, full of heartbreak and pain. You bring the same emotions as he did to your version. Amazing.
Did not know the song up until I searched for it. Johnny Cash's seemed to be the one your song was based on. Have not listenrf to Nine Inch Nail's version. Johnny Cash's version really pulled a tear out.

Not sure how relevant this is, just wanted to note that Johnny Cash’s “Hurt” too was a cover of Nine Inch Nails (Trent Reznor). I read that when he first heard Cash’s version, Trent felt like he was watching someone who was a better kisser than him kiss his girlfriend.

There's absolutely no chance this has ever been in my feed and I said "nah, maybe later". The fact this is new to me, combined with the three digit likes, suggests the algorithms have a ways to go with respect to cultural/linguistic boundaries. I've been seeking out Global Metal since Sam Dunn told me to, and I've loved "Hurt" for three decades. This was a gimme.
