  • Hello muggles! Today, we're going to teach you how to make Butterbeer from Harry Potter and Universal Studios at home! This is such an easy recipe and only requires a handful of ingredients. We found this great copycat recipe thanks to Chip and Co. Honestly, this tastes VERY close to the real Butterbeer that you'll find in the theme parks, so if you're looking to satisfy a craving while home, here you go!
    This is what you'll need:
    1/3 cup butterscotch syrup
    1-liter vanilla cream soda, chilled
    1 cup heavy cream
    ¼ tsp caramel extract
    ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
1 tsp vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
    ¼ cup powdered sugar
Just an FYI, we used caramel syrup instead of butterscotch and didn't use the caramel extract and this still tasted SO GOOD! These two aren't the easiest to find (Amazon is your best bet), so if you happen to find caramel syrup like we did in the stores, feel free to use that instead!
    Instructions:
    1. Combine cream soda with caramel extract and butterscotch syrup in bowl. Mix well with spoon. Set aside.
    2. In the mixer, with whisk attachment, whip the heavy cream until it begins to form peaks.
    3. Gently fold in the melted butter, then vanilla extract, followed by the powdered sugar. Whip until evenly dispersed.
    4. Pour the cream soda mixture into a clear mug or glass. Top with the cream topping. Serve and enjoy!
That's it! Again, thanks to Chip and Co. for posting the recipe! Here is the link to the recipe and article: chipandco.com/make-universals...

I found the following perfected it.
    1. Heat up the soda mix
    2. Put the cream in first
The warm soda melts the froth and makes a “head” that mixes both the flavors
    3. Add nutmeg to the top

Such a simple recipe for butter beer!! We need to try this for sure. Also big kudos for whisking that cream by hand! My arm would be on the floor by the time it even got to soft peaks hahahaha.

Does it matter what cream soda you use? And is it ok to use syrup from a jar instead of a bottle?

I don’t think it matters! We only tried this with what we used in the video, but I would imagine any cream soda will do. The syrup is probably fine too since you’ll be mixing/folding it in.

How many glasses does this recipe make? I want to make it for a party

Good question! We both had a glass each and if we remember correctly, had roughly enough left over for another two glasses. Should make about 4, depending on the size of the glass 👍🏻 Thanks for watching!

There’s a few different versions, but this version is like a butterscotch flavored cream soda. Universal also has a frozen version (our favorite) and a hot one! It’s so good!
