      Video games have been inspired by tabletop games for decades. R. Talsorian Games Cyberpunk has been one of the only torchbearers for the genre, especially as it went through it's 20 year dormancy.
      Edit: Also, do not forget that the grandaddy of space RPGs was Traveller from 1977.
      Dungeons and Dragons was more well known but Traveller is a hard science fiction space opera. Also note that Starfield has a lot of Traveller inspiration in it, per Todd Howard's own admission. So, tabletop RPGs are still inspiring video game developers.

      @@Nimbus118the Cyberpunk universe makes a clear statement that amazing technology does not bring with it a utopian paradise without guidance and moderation.
      It shows what happens when humanity goes too far in one direction, letting the engrained needs of power, hatred and corruption feed off the bounty of progress rather than be tamed by it.
      It is well depicted in fiction that humanity can go down hill tho it is often linked with an idea of regression or downfall. Cyberpunk instead shows what happens when humanity goes off the deep end yet does not actually collapse, finding a second stable regime of existence where it can evolve despite getting stuck away from the usual utopian society that they perhaps attempted to create

    Being someone who was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro and seeing that by 2023 or something the city was destroyed by Militech and Arasaka gives me a pretty weird feeling of bewilderment, joy, and irkment lmao Especially since it appears that the city was still about in 2077 (if you play a Corpo you can see that there was an attack on the 'Saka Tower in Rio).
    Makes me wonder how the rest of Brazil and South America are doing by the time of V. From what it appears, at least my city was turned into an Arasaka outpost in my country... Which makes me even more curious to know what befalls the city in the Crystal Palace ending, where Arasaka is destroyed by V and Johnny's attack.

    It looks like a prequel to The Expanse series. With High Riders having the same temperament as Belters.
    The ESA faltered by burdening the High Riders with semi-slave labor. He had everything in his hands, but he paid the price for his unbridled ambition. Good for the High Riders... the first "Belters."

    Mass Relays aren't catapults, they create tunnels of 'massless' space that allows travel orders of magnitude above lightspeed, I think from your description the Mass Driver is more like SpinLaunch's Kinetic Launch System, which does quite literally throw things into space.

  • @NoThanks-qp2ej
    @NoThanks-qp2ej Рік тому +4

    "The mass driver is essentially what is seen in Mass Effect" No it isn't. A mass driver is just a really big rail gun, it uses electromagnetic force to launch mass at high speed. The Mass relays in Mass Effect worked by creating corridors of space that had negative mass, allowing space craft traveling along them to move faster than light. Mass Effect and the mass relays are basically a techno babble explanation for FTL travel and are hypothetical at best, Mass Drivers meanwhile actually exist to some extent today and the one in Cyberpunk could be made in real life right now if the money and political demand were there.

I found it most helpful, and it's given me new ins for plot twists for both of my Highriders 1st and 2nd Stage teams for my weekly Cyberpunk Red: The Highriders TTRPG streams on Twitch.... Granted, that my take on things are a twist because I incorporate various other influences drawing from the likes of; Ghost in the Shell, Armitage the Third, Appleseed, Bubble Gum Crisis, Battle Angel Alita, Robocop, Blade Runner, Oblivion, Elysium, Repo the Genetic Opera, Johnny Mnemonic, etc.

    Man I hope Orion will be lot more about space. Considering the working title, I would say so. CP77 had a lot of space themes and cut content, hints etc. so I believe CDPR really wanted to explore the space more and just did not have time and resources to do so. It would be so cool if we could straight take gigs and stuff out there, hop on a rocket and go mercing in Crystal Palace or some station on Mars.
