    Brilliant Thom Ty.... It's awesome to have someone like you to do almost all of the thinking for me when I'm going through various scenarios I encounter...I instantly think Thom Hunt will have covered this somewhere and to your channel I go lol. And then once I have watched the video that covers the circumstances a couple of times everything makes perfect sense and then off I go to put it into practice.
    You have given me many "Oh Yeah" moments whilst watching.

    Hi Thom another excellent video, your videos have been very helpful, I have been flyfishing most of my fishing life and came to lure fishing during the very first lockdown when you could only fish locally, I joined my local Angling Association that has some lakes, rivers and the Kennet and Avon canal 10 minutes walk from me, I started fishing the canal with a light lure setup for the first time at the young age of 72 and have had some really enjoyable fishing for Perch and pike since, your videos have been really helpful thank you, enjoy being a dad lots of special times to come. Great video, thanks! I agree with your advice for ultra-clear water - our home lake has 10 feet of visibility, and silver has been our number 1 color. We've also done well on reaction lures like topwaters or fast-moving spinners, like you mentioned. Thanks!

I have jus brought and 8ft 2-10 gram rod would you match it with a 1000 or 2500 size reel..if the rod was smaller in length I’d defiantly go 1000 I’m jus wondering if you think there’s any advantage of having a big reel with a longer rod will it help casting distance if thats gona b an issue fishing from bank..thanks in advance love your videos and wish you all the best for this years competitions

I would like to see you do something if not already done on canal size jig and hook size the same for rivers and the same for lakes, gravel pits etc. As a a newbie to lure fishing I get confused with jig or cheb weight and hook size combinations. Hi Thom, I'm on you channel for few days and I'm glad i found you. I'm more of a pike fisherman, but adding your tips going to try some perch. (since in Poland usually is one bite for a day on my waters when it comes to pike fishing)
    How about topic of retrieve speed for pike, divided into softbaits, jerkbaits, crankbaits, on different weather and season time.
    I learned a lot about lure choice by water clarity but does it changes during different weather?
    I always struggle after every day on a water that what have i done wrong, what could i do better.
    And maybe some tips on how often to change spots, and lures? I'm more on lakes but in general is also interesting.
    Cheers :)

    This info is priceless Thom. I’ve been gradually working it out over the years myself, but advice from a pro! I’m with you on when all else fails: spinners! My rivers are semi clear and weedy and I find spinnerbaits often do the trick. A great channel👍
    Ps What would be your preferred make for a 1000/2000 size spinning reel for light cranks, soft lures/drop shotting? I’m upgrading and considering a Shimano Vanford, Savage Gear SG8 or ABU Revo ALX Theta. As Westin do not make reels that I’m aware of, I’d value your opinion. None of my local tackle shops have what I’m considering in stock and are only interested in carp and match fishing

    Thanks for sharing. Possibly too long a topic for a short vid but interested in your take on when to fish down in the water and when to stay up. Some fish will come a long way up to take a lure but the same lure presented deep won't get a reaction. What are your thoughts on this? I'm a fly angler but would assume the same principles apply to depth of presentation. Congrats on your new arrival too 👍👍

    Thom, what are your thoughts on night fishing clear venues?

  • @ronfullelove6995
    @ronfullelove6995 2 роки тому +1

    Hi Thom,
    Recently discovered your channel, awesome content, thank you.
    If the water is ultra clear but 60ft - 80ft deep (Zander fishing Rutland in winter), do you still go natural colours ?
    I'm wondering if the lack of light at those depths would change your colour choice / decision making?
    I have been vertical jigging Rutland over this past winter, with mixed results.
    A good day has been 3 or 4 fish, but most visits I'm just getting the Zander following the lures (can see them following on active target).
    On those hard days, I have tried ultra realistic plastics and bright colours with very little lure movement, but still can't work out what I'm doing wrong as they just keep following.
    Any advice would be much appreciated.
    A video about how you tackle zander fishing on the Big reservoirs (Rutland / Grafham) would be fantastic.
    Cheers,
    Ron

    • @Thomhuntfishing
      @Thomhuntfishing  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Ron, yes even in clear water the light struggles to penetrate at 60-80ft and there’s a huge difference even between flat calm water (most light penetration) and choppy water (least light penetration) at Rutland in particular I would say I use natural patterns most of the time. As a bench mark I’d say the good days at Rutland are 20-50 fish per person and the tougher days will be 3-10 fish per person per day. There are days when they completely switch off and virtually no one will catch but these are rare. Getting your presentation right is the real key, I’d actually say at Rutland lure colour is t that important. Correct braid, correct jig head size, correct lure size, correct rod….. all come first rather than lure colour

    Hi Thom. Back again! What is your take on black, motoroil or white plastic lures ?

    • @Thomhuntfishing
      @Thomhuntfishing  3 роки тому +1

      Black is probably the #1 colour in very muddy water, or for lure fishing at night. Motor oil is a super odd colour for me, I’ve used it on and off for years and it can be really effective but I’ve personally never found a ‘set of rules’ of when I should use it or avoid it! When I interviewed Daniel Nilsson from Westin last year, he said it was a ‘confidence’ colour rather than a situation colour, meaning whenever YOU fee it’s the right time to try it…. Try it! White is a great colour, similar to Official Roach where I want a natural-ish bait but one that will stand out so often best in 1-2ft of visibility 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    I guess where you are in the UK Places you fish are infested with pike. I guess its different where I am (canada) I've been told in muddy water to use dark big colour baits. Ex. Black cause they give more silhouette,or bright obnoxious colours like your fire tiger etc. In clear water use natural.

    Hi Thom, I've been fishing like mad with Westin cranks as per your recommendations with lots of success obviously as it's the summer. What lb braid would you use? I'm currently using 25lb with the Westin Finesse Crank-t (yes baitcaster shimano bantam) would you go to perhaps 16lb or 18lb to get the bait lower in the water?

    • @Thomhuntfishing
      @Thomhuntfishing  3 роки тому

      Yes, don’t go too low (like 10lb) as crankbaits require some durability as they put a lot of pressure on your kit and you are casting/retrieving constantly. 15-18lb high quality thin 8 strand braid is strong but thin and will get max depth out of your cranks
