Unrelated to Hurricane season, but I have a metal roof put on in 2016 and they used rubber roof boots. I don't know if they painted them with water sealer or just paint, but its coming off, so now its down to the boots. They still seem fine, but should I cover them with Flex Seal or some other coating? Its those boots that have a ridge around them, which can catch water, not sure why they are designed that way.
No they are fine. We paint them so that they blend in better with the rest of the roof but unfortunately, with that type of pipe boot, it doesn’t stick very well. It honestly doesn’t stick well to many of them and it becomes a maintenance item where you have to repaint them every couple of years. If you put sealant on them That can backfire and cause issues. You are better to leave them alone as long as they are still functioning.
