- Getting information from this High Chief is like squeezing water from a rock. Popular as Imperial Ogunsola during his days as a musician, High Chief Timothy Ayo-Makinde said a little about his time during the Biafran war.
Benjamin Adekunle is hero, you may not like, when ever there is war there will be casuality.Benjamin a great man.RIP
THE BABA WAS TALKING HEARSAY , I WAS A LIEUTENANT IN CHARGE OF MEDICALS ATTACHED TO 3RD MARINE COMMANDO UNDER COL. BENJAMIN ADEKUNLE . BENJAMIN ADEKUNLE WAS NEVER IN CHARGE OF SOLDIERS WAR FRONT ALLOWANCES
I believe this is going to be one of the difficult interviews by Mr Dele Adeyanju. Baba has many information which can assist the current generation but he wasn’t forthcoming about them due to some reason I could classify as aftermath effect of unexpected .
Secondly, Baba has passed through many difficult in life and based on his previous experiences of betrayal by members of his band and his sad beginning of his life by losing his father at age of 7 also constituted to the half information.
Having considered above, I will suggest that Agbaletu needs to revisit Baba while the questions for interviews should be strategically addressed in areas highlighted below:
1. The life history of Baba
2. His carrier as a retired soldier
3. His carrier as a musician
4. By compared the olden days and now.
Thank you so much Agbaletu for your efforts and your team.
Baale Agbaletu, I will always appreciate your professionalism. This interview must be one of the tough day at office, yet you still brought out hidden information. Kudos Sir❤
This difficult interview showcase your excellent interview skills Agbaletu. Continue your good work.
It is a shame though listening to the interview. I served in the military during the war. From my recollection I was at Pay and records and army signals Apapa when Adekunle Black S corpion came to the guard room and took so many soldiers to the war front, why because on the Federal side some were running away from the front
He has to be tough with the discipline. He was a great soldier and leader. Without his toughness Nigeria will not be where we were. He was replaced by Obasanjo after the war was nearing the end. Obasanjo only went to the war front to tidy the area and rebuild the damaged bridges. Like some one this Baba is an half illetrate and was part of the mass recruitment during the war thus allowing for uneducated people to join the military during the war. Before the war if anybody wants to join the military you have to do exams and if selected then you go for training.
This baba did not provide useful information for the archive. He's either fearful of people in power or did not have the information you wanted. No problem, you did your best as usual. God bless your ingenuity.
Agbaletu... trauma surfaces in many ways. You are touching aspects that will bring to Baba's remembrance hurt most likely.
My dad's story is quite similar.
There is an intersection between professional musicianship and the Nigeria Army... Most of the Elders that became professionals then can credit their training either in music or ability to organize to the Armed Forces.
I’m sorry but I think Baba is suffering from PTSD we have to give him a break. Thanks much Dele I have so much respect for you, Kudos bro.
Agbaletu I salute your professionalism in this interview. It is really challenging interviewing the old man who is either not ready to divulge information or forgetful of events. Anyway it is still an interesting interview but could have been more if Baba had talked about his experience in the civil war.
Baba is coded. I found many of his responses very enlightening. He used the " lowe lowe ni a n lu ilu agidigbo style" for many of the responses to the questions
Dele my dear ku iseo.Your efforts will continue to yield excellent dividend and beautiful gains.Your host today hun!he has facts but so economical about it.Look Nigeria civil war started in 1973 and ended in 1970 in January. as you have rightly said l always remember this because one my sisters was born that very year we couldn't do much merriment of christening because of the rumour of war here and there then.Because mere mention of Odumegwu Ojukwu sent chill to one spines! The army took over from civilian in 1966 inact that was the beginning or prelude of the bloody civil war that lasted for three years.Thank you for your efforts.
This baba is a very smart and intelligent man
Somebody cannot get facts or dates right
This man is a combat veteran. I do understand his situation. From this interview, I could easily gather that baba was a machine gunner. Guys, cut him some slack. Cut him some slack please. I wish i could interview him, not about anything else, but his military service. I would have said "Thank you for your service" but sadly he fought in the Nigerian Army. Cut baba some slack, he did a surprisingly great job.
And if anyone wants to hear war stories, you don't ask an infantryman. Find a cook, a nurse or any other type of "soldier."
❤
This man is not any journalist delight. His narrative is disjointed. Hard to believe. A waste of time and effort. Thank you for your calmness
Absolutely agree. A Nation's History must not be left with such a custodian.
Big waste of time
Cause what’s now the essence of the interview
You have to understand that telling truth and exposing misdeeds of others is a very dangerous thing in Nigeria. The man is trying to avoid problems. None of us here will be behind him if anything we're to happen
Respect sir.
Weldone Dele, you have tried your best to bring out the best from the man But i think because baba is educationally limited he was not able to dish out much.
The baba has a lot of history, stories to tell but is not willing to share it with anyone or may be old age 😮
One cannot get anything tangible from this man that's always tongue in check!
This is the second time I've heard this story about Benjamin Adekunle. The first account was from William Walbe, a participant in the second coup. After his first success taking the coast of Biafra, he started commiting blunders that wasted the lives of soldiers. Gowon was reluctant to replace him and muritala because they were loyal to him.
Baba may be demented due to his age and his life experience. Thank you Mr Dele for your calmness.
I don’t think this Baba is afraid to talk. My take is : he doesn’t recollect the story vividly and that frustrates the whole process. Kudos to Agbaman for the manoeuvring and smart ability to relief the situation.
You have written it all. Dele's calmness and maneuvering has really brought out the little we've watched so far. It's never easy to interview a character whose main goal in life is looking for death at all cost. Nothing much could be squeezed out of the person. 😂
Baba is factual about music promoters
Mo fi olohun so Agba man.
Ko easy lo ri eto yi.
Baba was talking about the famed socialite, Iyabo Olorunkoya, not Olorunsola. Iyabo was a drug courier who had relationships with many top military officers. They always saw her through protocols at the then Ikeja Airport with her consignment. She defied a spiritual warning not to travel that time. She was later apprehended at Heathrow Airport and subsequently jailed. The incident made Adekunle and some other officers to play into the hands of Gowon who used the incident as a ploy to retire them prmaturely. This made Gowon and his inner caucus to have a grip on the government of Nigeria.
He doesn’t remember things in proper order. He mixed everything up.😂
Abeg free this man jare
Baba's memories have started fading and he still didn't want to talk much. He couldn't even remember Murtala's name.🤣🤣🤣
THIS MAN IS A NAIVE SOLDIER AND HE IS NOT SAYING THE TRUTH ABOUT LATE BENJAMIN ADEKUNLE .
BENJAMIN ADEKUNLE WAS NEVER INCHARGE OF SOLDIERS WAR FRONT ALLOWANCES BECAUSE THE SOLDIERS SALARIES WERE PAID BY THEIR UNITS TO THEIR APPOINTED FAMILIES .
I WAS A MEDICAL OFFICER ATTACHED TO 3RD MARINE COMMANDO .
This baba wants to remain useless even in his old age.... Benjamin adekunle is a hero your bitterness and hate can never change that
I think say Yoruba get respect? Because he is not saying what you want to hear you call an elderly man useless?
Maybe baba is still traumatized from the civil war.
Good job Agbaletu... Dean of old skool
The information he refused to supply added up to render the interview exercise invalid. He was afraid of something undefined. The exercise is near to futility. At the end Dele Adeyanju has to let go. He appeared frustrated with the baba. Not good enough.
You should leave the thumbnail in Yoruba to warn us all
You could sense that the interviewer was so pissed off with the way the baba was reluctant to dish out information regarding his past experience that he had to end the show stylishly because it seems like it was a waste of time and effort to continue to ask the baba more question
The baba is very evasive. He is also economical with the truth. By now, he suppose to be bold enough at his age.
Yoruba has one proverb
The son of fire is the one send to fire
What Dele wants can not be extracted
Baba son is the only person that can easily extract facts
Agbaletu tried as much as possible to extract information from this man but it seemed to be one of his toughest tasks. He has lots of important pieces of information but fails to say much, making the interview boring. The old man also struggled to remember lots of things. I wish he could open up.
My brother is one of adekunle boys he told me that he killed Nigerian soldiers that why he ran away from war front
This man was too low in rank while in military and he was talking about things that were above knowledge. He was not afraid as you thought, but saying things he did not know.
I tend to agree with you joor.
Though, Adekunle may have his excesses due to PTSD but if you read "Tragedy of Victory" by Alabi Isama who was very closed to Adekunle during the war, Adekunle was not as bad as baba is trying to portray him.
HE WAS TALKING HEARSAY WHICH IS LIES
The baba is over 90, nearing 100 and so would be given some tolerance of memory loss. The editor and cameramen did a poor job by not panning towards numerous photographs hanging on the wall which baba was pointing to.
Similarly, the headline was mischievious and was just a reflection of the negative stories fed to Agbaletu by rumour mongers. Something like 'The day Adekunle was killed and resurrected' would have caught more attention and reflect what baba said.
Seems Baba was holding back a lot about his experiences in the war, must have been a traumatic one for him.
This baba no wan talk oh.
Baba na Iwin or Irúnmolè. Nobody taught him how to play guitar, how beat drums or how to drive vehicle. . . .😂😂😂. Run for baba o
Brigadier Benjamin Adekunle was a good soldier though very unconventional. He had already finished the war but was only playing with the remnants before Gen Gowon replaced him with Obasanjo. Obasanjo admitted to clearing soldier who inflicted wounds on themselves so that they will not go to war. So saying that Adekunke was killing his troupe is a lie. The man is not a reliable narrator
Very on point ☝️
I love Dele's Interviews. I have watched several episodes. For the first time of my watching AGBALETU, this is the most boring interview. Extremely boring. He is not read to divulge many information. It is a pity... I would have loved to hear Benjamin Adekunle story from the Baba (Guest). Hear him... Playing for 25years without making a record??? Babanla Nonsense!!!!!
So short sef. Empty. No lesson learnt. I am angry!
This man's story is in cohesive. Doesn't transmit any meaning to life
This old man knows very little about the happenings in the war front, but relies on hear say from others who were in the scene of action. He should talk on other experiences.

What a Pity… this man don’t want to talk and let the youth learn from that same panic they try to put on the youth nowadays
Baba is afraid. He fought Biafra war. What do you want him to say ?
This interview is very erupted, Baba is not very flamboyant to handle the case of interview.
If he bought his car in 1972 it means he used pounds not naira because naira came into existence in 1973
The man is incoherent because he's lying . My opinion though
BIG LIAR
Dele you failed to differentiate between playing music and starting own band
I don't believe what this man is saying joor.
Not interesting, thank you for your calmness
Well done Agbaletu. Baba just don’t want to talk. This interview is not intereting.his story is not adding up
Use english we dont understand the language
This Baab talks is not straight forward. He's not ready to open up.
The old man explanations are confusing.
Baba has lived in village so long that he talks like villager.
Hmmmm Nigeria. Nigeria is not worth dying for. The useless leader have been stupid for long.
Baba aunty Ramota
The baba interview was not interested at all
Mr. Adeyanju Baba account of Biafra war never objective n clearer. Especially on his account of Black Scorpion Late Brig. Gen. Benjamin Adekunle Maja.
If u want clearer perspective of Biafra War interview veterans of war that are still alive no one of them doubted heroic of Black Scorpion.
He was a generalismo of war and there were testimonials of him been in war front leading soldiers and even carried out the operation by been at war front.
Admiral Aduwo is one of those people that give full details of Black Scorpion heroic account.
Just leave the man alone he is not really want to talk
The Baba is tellings u what is not real
Why must a man of that age be afraid to talk? Talking in half.
His courage is questionable.
This man interview is not interesting because he refused to open up. ...
The old man was a deserter. He went AWOL on the army for reasons best known to him. He's intentionally being flaky for obvious reasons. The interview is an absolute waste of time. Dele, be sure to do pre interview research before putting folks like this on your channel.
Not a viable/ productive interviewee
Much as this interview could have been of greatest interest, this man is boring.
This man is full of inaccuracies. His memories cannot carry him to give a credible assessment of the war, his command and actions and historical factrs on and about anything He said he was in the military for 6 years but left in 1970 and he was recruited in 1967. How could that be 6 years. Gen Muhammad Buhari was commissioned as second lieutenant in Jan 1963 but he claimed they got into the army, the same day, but Buhari was recruited as an officer. Buhari was actualy enrolled in January 1963. IBB was also commissioned in 1963, so how could the colonial government handover armoured battalion to a civilian teenager whowas not in themilitary in 1960. Listening to him is a waste of time. When he said he had photographic brain, I gave up. @Agbaletu, please don't do this to your subscriber again.
Baba account is merely of ego acclaiming discourse on some personalities just for creation of relevance.
This baba is not believable at all. He made up most of his story.
Not too interesting bcoz the Baba is reluctant to give out many interesting History.
Unfortunately, there may be no opportunity for him to leave these valuable, first hand history about the Nigerian Civil War behind.
Thank you for your efforts 👍
This chief is telling lies
This Baba's speech is not fluent and coherent
This man knows nothing about war
This man is boring!
This is so annoying!! The man is old
