My dad bought me a TFO 17 years ago when I was 15. I used it a few times here and there. It mostly sat around in its case. Years passed. I started getting big into fly fishing when I was 26.
The rod is 17 years old, has been through a ton, especially the last 6 years. Is tough, was not expensive.

One of the things I really like about TFO is their moderate price for really good rods. Most of us don't need the really fast action rods because as much as we would like to think we are, we're not that good of a fly caster. Keep the good stuff coming guys.

Lefty was my Aunt's neighbor in Cockeysville MD. And my father took me over to meet him when I was 13. I was an avid bass fisherman at the time and never fly fished before or even fished moving water. He took me under his wing for 2 summers and taught me to cast and read water. I owe my entire flyfishing career to him! I am now a flyfishing guide in Western NC and I know he is looking down with that smile. He was one of the nicest men I have ever met and his wife was as well. I really miss him! I am now getting ready to take my FFI certification test and bought this TFO pro 3 in a 7 weight. Not that I needed a 7 weight when I have 4 8 weights already. Lol but you can only take the test with a 5, 6 or 7 and was advised the 7 would be best Incase of wind for the test. I absolutely love this rod for the price and double hauling over 90 feet on target is a breeze ! Thanks Brian for another great video and keep up the great work out there at mad river. If your ever near western NC hit me up day of fishing is on me!!!! I work for Maggie valley fly shop in Haywood co. And I have my own independent business as well. Epic Outdoor Adventures.

For years Ive been fishing New Zealand with my Loomis and Sage outfits. Bought my first TFO, a 6 wt Pro III and take it across as my streamer and heavier nymph outfit as well as casting dries into the wind which is often the case in the South Island. A sweet rod with a slightly slower action than the other two, yet a dream to cast. At 25% the cost of the other two, it is a steal for its performance. Highly recommended this Pro III. I will be adding additional TFOs to my fresh and saltwater trips.

My first rod was (and still is) a TFO 5wt Lefty Kreh Professional Series. I later got an 8wt Lefty Kreh Professional Series rod. Both rods are plenty fine for my needs.

Not suew if the same people still own the company but I met them back in the early 2000s when I bought a 7 wt road and a reel. They have me a free pass to the outfiter/resalers expo in denver. It was very nice of them and a fun time to meet them.

I picked up a pro 2 4wt at a local fly shop on sale saying he had to get rid of them for the new series so I picked it up. Looks like I’ll have to get one of these series 3s!

My Buddy had a once in a lifetime chance to go and fish where Lefty Kreh was and got to meet him and hang out for a bit when the rods were going to be released. Lefty was telling him about them and we were able to get some Pro rods for saltwater through a connection he was setup with. Still have that 10wt original pro rod and enjoy using it for stripers and blues. I liked that rod so much I picked up their next line down in a 4wt - nice mod-fast action. Neither rod was as fancy or fast action as some other rods of the day, but they were fine fishing tools.

For a beginner, would you recommend the TFO Pro III outfit over the Redington Field Kit combo? Where I live they are priced similarly.

If you loved the BVK, you should definitely check out the LK Legacy Same taper and feel with stronger tip section and upgraded components.
How does this one stack up against an orvis clearwater at the 5wt level? I'm trapped between choosing either of these for a first rod

Is it the same kind of action as the Pro or Pro 2, or do you feel that it is slower. Have both in a 6wt and would be inclined to upgrade if the action has not changed. Otherwise I might look at a different model.

Hey Pecos Nick! The Pro III still has the same action/taper as the Pro and Pro II, but upgraded components and now comes with a rod tube!
