Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is due to hit theaters this month! But with the filmmakers bragging about emasculated male characters and using D&D as a shell to tell their own stories, will this be another instance of get woke, go broke?

I am not a critic, so I don’t feel like I have to give anything a chance any more. If I know someone is planning to preach at me, they admit it, they are proud of it, then I’m out!
In the current environment we have to assume the worst and put the burden on the filmmakers to prove to us it's something worth our time and money. No more extending the benefit of doubt to people who openly tell us they hate us.
@@Shagrath71 Exactly! I'm tired of all the "At least give it a chance!" nonsense some people come out with, as though I'm obligated to spend money & it's a virtue to ignore the very clear messaging from the trailer/writers/showrunner/etc.
@@pedanticperson1149 Once you give them your money they win whether you like what they make or not. Let others be the guinea pigs or canaries in the coal mine. Wait for positive word of mouth instead of taking a chance since these days the odds are your chances aren't good.
@@pedanticperson1149 the chance I give movies is to wait for the reviews and then see if I should go see it. It has been a long time since I last went to movie feeling confident I’d enjoy it without at least checking with someone that’s already seen it.
@@pedanticperson1149 My time and certainly my money are not free! If someone wants me to give their movie a chance, then they can pay me for my time and effort. I certainly owe them none of this.
That person openly said the quiet part out loud. Unreal
i'm not sure if we should laud their honestly or cringe at their stupidity.
And his last name is Goldstein 😂
Someone once said "Fandom keeps egos in check." That's something studio heads need to learn if they want to actually monetize fans.
@@Herb_Ush Yeah, but studio heads are more likely than any other aspect of filmmaking to respond to monetary incentives. They can only throw good money after bad for so long in the name of moral superiority before they either collapse as a company or reign in the moralizing.
@@Herb_Ush Meeeeee too
"The Biden administration"? Oh you are so not political. Almost half a million people dead during the last administration wasn't an issue? Coup attempts are not an issue? Trump wouldn't touch you with a 10 foot pole. He would make China jokes on you like he does on reporters simply cause you look Asian.
If Chris Pine is concerned about being too admired for his role as Kirk, I can put his mind at ease - no one does!
Never accepted him as kirk in the first place.
There will only be one forever.
@@dermagnus8482 Same here
There's only one kirk.. just like there's only one khhhhhaaaaaaaannnnnnnnn......
@@c.a.t4607 It was so funny when Dr. Sherlock Strange says his name is really “Khan” with dramatic emphasis, even though in-universe no one was supposed to know who that is!
He was great in that stupid movie "Smoking Aces"
Its funny that the director thinks d&d fans will fall for this trap. If there is something d&d fans are not is stupid. Its the wrong ip to prey on, and they will realize that very soon.
What does IP stand for in this context? Certainly not internet provider
D&D fans will pay $50 for a guide book with all the info online for free.
I think the best adaptation of a dnd campaign is The Legend of Vox Machina. It shows how each character can be whatever they want to be, as goofy as they want, as serious as they want, and it's animated so there's no limit to the creativity
I agree, mostly. I just watched the 2nd season a couple of weeks ago, and I was concerned that it was taking a bit of a feminist/pansexual/no-heterosexual-relationships allowed direction, almost as if the creators got a talking to after the 1st season for not scoring enough Woke Points. But it was still pretty good, overall - definitely watchable, although I think the 1st season was a bit better…
@@alexfriedman918 To be fair all those bits are in the campaign that VM is based on from like 6 years ago. This show is 100% under control of the Critical Role cast, the whole cast are executive producers on the show. Plus the animation studio is full of fans of the campaigns. Which why it is so good and close to the their campaign so there is no interfered from woke Amazon. Now yeah the CR gang have go woke like most of mainstream, but there is a plus side unlike most of the mainstream media, the CR gang are great at story telling and can make great stories and characters.
@@Vexkun Yeah, that makes sense.
Goblin Slayer is the best adaption of dnd. Fight me.
I'm not a DD fan. But I've met them and I respect them. From my perspective, they will not be very forgiving.
I think they will be pretty insulted and they don't forget or forgive
D&D does tend to attract the OCD.
Considering the debacle of the revoking of licences that just happened, I don't think they will find their "fans" very much in the mood to go watch their movie, even though they had to cave in an walk-back the licencing decisions they made. There is a is a lot of hostility towards Wizards of the Coast withing the tabletop community right now. I'm surprised they went ahead with the release of the movie. Maybe they don't expect things to improve on that front.
There was already a lot of hostility given than they successfully turned 5E into a massive cross-audience success...and now want to push a new edition, assuming everyone will come along for the ride. I predict the 4E debacle redux.
Not only in the tabletop community by the way, us MTG players are also kind of fed up. Wonder when WOTC are going to pull their heads out of their asses.
@@tristan9859 they won't. They speak only the language of money. And even their own policy states, consumers are an obstacle to be overcome between them, and the money they think you owe them. The money that's rightfully theirs, but unfortunately are in the pockets of their...targetted audience.
In real D&D, bards can be valuable members of the party. In most other games, they’re just as useless as any character played by Chris Pine.
In my cousins D&D game right now I’m a Bard Noble Half elf
In Final Fantasy, bard and bard-like characters are pretty useful
Chris Pine now plays a spy who whines at his wife's boyfriend!
Chris Pine! Now plays a cop! Who simps for his strong superior black cop partner!
Chris Pine! Now plays a simp star fleet captain! Who kneels and kisses up to his black comms officer!
Chris Pine! Now plays a beta simp who exists to be just a cheerleader for the strong Amazon woman!
Chris Pine! Herderpy derp strong woman da derpy derp! Coming soon to theaters!
Star Trek was pretty good IMHO

"Emasculating leading men" - well done. You played yourself. Good luck with the box office.
I appreciate that they told me up front not to see the movie in their Variety interview, it's not common enough for Hollywood directors to say the quiet part out loud.
Misandry won’t sell tickets.
The guy openly admitted to using the source material as a bait. I just can't.
I never got into play D&D but I was always interested in the story and lore. A good D&D movie is something I've been quietly hoping for. If I wasn't already going to pass on this movie because of the whole Wizards of the Coast debacle, I'd definitely do so after reading those quotes. You can't get any more clear cut red flags.
Better off sticking to the novels, like Forgotten Realms, or Dragonlance, even Eberron.
Might be a bit hard to find any out if print books though.
@@FF-tp7qs or play the Baldurs Gate or Neverwinter Nights video games. Some good stories in there, that also introduces people to the lore, and in a way that is cheap and accessible for anyone.
It was just a bad interview, I've read the prequel novels, these are great characters. Look at the reviews of those who have already seen it.
@@gyorgyor7765 just because the novels are decent doesn't mean the film is. The characters might be well written in the books then terribly written in the film, besides the interview makes the creators out to have an agenda of making men look bad which is off-putting no matter what the film is like.
I too will never give DnD another penny. Ever. So i was already passing this movie up. But its really sad what is happening.
Its like ppl went crazy and just want to destroy all the bice thing wr have.
I remember a time when good money was spent to find out how they could make the most money. Now it seems to be the opposite.
I've been on twitter, almost everyone likes emasculated male characters. They like the woman being taller, stronger, smarter, and badass awhile praising the fact that the male characters are dumb (I have seen too many "You're stupid, I like that in a man" anime meme being tweeted), clumsy clowns, and can't do anything. This is especially evident in "shippings"
So, I hear them saying, "We're not doing it to be woke. We just want to emasculate men."
How do those two sentences match each other? One proves the other false.
Not necessarily, if you have a look at the pair you'll see they're not most masculine of men, so it's entirely possible they're just doing it because they can't see themselves in truly heroic roles. For them the fantasy is to be the comedy relief sidekick, who is incompetent, but "manly" in his own way.
I can not wait for the apocalypse to get me some of these woke monsters.
Revenge will be sweet.
Haven't seen a single piece of promotional material. This video is the first thing in a long time that reminded me this was being made.
It's been delayed over and over and no advertising... all very red flags. And now this? Better to forget the movie entirely.
I wish they would stop trying to inject so much humor into D&D movies. They need to go the route of the original Conan the Barbarian movie. Small bits of humor scattered in RARELY, and Sandahl Bergman had a phenomenal, strong while still feminine character. She was extremely admired by all my friends not only because she was sexy, but because she was kick ash, and an equal to the men in the movie.
I saw the trailers for this new D&D movie, and 3 seconds in I knew, KNEW it was going to be ridiculously over the top on its humor, and then it became obvious the men would be emasculated even before they came right out and said it. As cautiously optimistic and excited as I was for a new D&D movie, I'm 99% certain this is gonna be a hard pass for me.
as i recall, in Conan, when three thieves encounter each other trying to rob the same tower...Sandahl Bergman's character Valeria was the only one who thought to bring some rope. The other two literally got drunk/high and showed up at the tower thinking they would rob it. When this was pointed out to them, they shrugged and agreed to team up with her. no chest beating, just. an unspoken "She has a point."
Bullshit. Have you actually ever played D&D it always devolves into humor and dumb shit when you play.
I wonder what would happen if a writer said:
"I just like humiliating leading women because it's funny and fresh!"
God I'm so sick of misandry!
And Misandry it is.
And just as Marxist as Marxist race-baiting racism is Marxist.
One of the immutable laws of the universe is there shall not exist a high quality D&D live action movie. This abomination before us is apparently made terrible by wokeness on top of all the usual crud that drags this franchise down to the lowest level of the dissapointment plane.
That socks too...
I think D&D along with world of War craft are two ip's that could churn out good movies constantly but have never been handled right or given the chance to reach it's full potential.
@@c.a.t4607 I thought that WoW movie wasn't that bad. Not great but pretty watchable.
If Hollywood focused on prominent D&D characters like a certain dual wielding Drow they might have something. But these generic D&D projects with not great original characters seem like they're destined to be DOA.
I mean Critical Role already does a better job with D&D than Hollywood ever will, not just with they're weekly streams of the game but the fact that they have an actual animated series based on one of their campaigns and it follows the actual game they played, drama and comedy in all
I'm so sick of this s***!
Love you Lauren
-"That was not an attempt attempt at wokeness on our part"
Next Paragraph: "We love emasculating leading men"
😕😕😕
On my planet, our movies are told with good storylines that stick with the original story! And actors are for entertaining us! Here on your planet earth, actors hate your guts! And only take roles to force their agendas in your face!!
Can I request political asylum on your planet, please?
"It's not woke, its fresh!"
Which is why everyone is tired of it... because you know, its so fresh and new.
Disney loves getting popular shows with a dedicated fan base and insert their agenda/narrative.
"We thought it would be new and funny to..." literally every movie for the last five years has done this, people.
I saw this a mile away when I heard lines like:
Chris Pine: "You got this, right?"
Strong Female Protagonist #3: "I know YOU don't."
I miss serious medieval fantasy movies. I'm just not into Big Bang Theory humor with my medieval fantasy.
This Movie doesn't have a Serious Bone in It's Entire Body.
Even the Living Dead have One-Liners in this One.
Yes! The exact thing! People acting like fans are racist and misogynist because we're automatically triggered by the presence of POC or female characters, but they're not taking into account what has come of SO MANY projects lately. How many times have we been tricked into giving them money because we love this IP, these characters, those original stories and been soooo disappointed and even insulted by what we paid for? Its enraging that they're STILL doing it.
D&D can go anywhere, the best game that I was a part of went everywhere, multible planes, multible planets, characters dying, it was a high powered hard core game that was alot of fun.
whew!! at a glance I thought you meant the game... I was like "NOOOOOOO!!!!". but we can deal with that because our games will just be what we want them to be.
Taking these existing settings and locations and factions, then telling your own story is literally how the game works... I I don't know how you get more true to a source material
It's literally Hollywood going "Ok, how do we make a movie that can check off every box and keep our ESG score up? Anyone done anything with D&D yet? Ok, let's buy the name and do whatever the hell we want with it and call it a day! By the way, hire Chris Pine, he will help play the simp role"
Dnd has been a power fantasy reward mechanism since the mid 2000s and a it was co opted by the new culture pushers in the early 2010s. The game I lived is a parasitized mess
There's a lot of good old D & D computer games out there they can go back far enough you can find the gold box series for old dos computers by ssi, pre Wizards of the Coast
Hollywood always did that to books. Look like the classic WW 2 movie "Run Silent, Run Deep" with Burt Lancaster and Clark Gable compared to the novel it was based on.
"Typecast"? The best way I can describe him in this movie is "Chris Pine appearing again in his most famous role of 'Chris Pine'".
^Spot On.
quite aside from all the silliness and misandry "in the spirit", is one of my most hated phrases of any adaptation.
The amount of times I've heard someone say something is "in the spirit", of an original, only to produce something completely different.
"Oh we've changed the main character, setting, emphasis message, and pretty much everything else but it's "in the spirit."
"Spirit", is a weasel word, it's unquantifiable, undefinable and completely open to opinion, but it lets so called Hollywood "creative writers", try and completely borrow the works of far better authors, and, even while admiting their massive, desecrations and changes, still try to capitalise off a much greater work.
With anything, from Thomas the tank engine to the wheel of time, whenever someone claims "in the spirit", it's to me nearlyh almost a red flag in and of itself.
Clearly, literally no one who worked on this movie ever played a single session of D&D in their entire lives.
^So True.
I just got home from watching the movie and I can say the movie pretty enjoyable. the lore faithful, the interaction not overly forced funny and pretty balanced, the cast get great bond in this movie. I can't say about other people's but i certainly enjoy this movie 👌☺️
DOA after the OGL scandal. Hasbro can suck my toes for all I care for we have tons of OSR and the old editions.
After watching it honestly its funny that those comments did not end up being PR stunts from the directors and actually stayed true to their word and it was actually good. The subversion of expectations actually did not feel forced at all which is interesting.
Saw the trailer in theaters and it's got major red flags and certain commentary from the cast. It does not bode well.
This could have been an easy win for the studio with a respectful film.
You're def NOT over thinking this. Given the penitent for WotC (the current holder of the DnD IP and content creator for said IP) to embrace ultra woke things in their messaging, representation and portrayal of DnD, MtG, etc its par for the course that this film would be woke, even before ANY of these cringe inducing trailers or crew interviews were brought to light. The whole thing reeks of MCU comedy and woke messaging and it looks like its going to bomb HARD when it releases later this month. It has Disney+ Willow levels of energy and thats NOT a good thing.
Oh man we they should have used the characters from the 1980s cartoons. WTF!
They actually have a Cameo in this Movie.
Yeah I'm literally the target audience but then I heard the press tour crap and deleted it from my memory.
You can have an average Joe male lead without him being a punk. Die Hard being the prime example.
The way they've discussed this is strange, they'll talk about emasculation and then try & play it off like they're just "challenging" the male characters; the problem with that is, facing hardships is the basis of the hero journey & if they miss the part where the hero overcomes the challenge then they're not a hero. They appear to be obfuscating what they've done behind the idea the male leads will face a challenge in the film. Obvious point is, if the female leads problem face any similar challenges then it's just going to be even worse.
As for why they would do this, not to be mean, but if you pull up a few pictures of the pair I think you'll agree they're hardly the most masculine of men. So, I think this might be a bit of wish fulfilment for them, emasculate heroes & have them be weak (but heroic In "their own way".
Re: Franchises as vehicles for the writers
It's definitely becoming a worrying trend for writers to be open in just using other people's stories as skin suits for their own stories, given how bad some of them can be I think it's fair to say that it's because they're not creative enough to manage on their own. It's getting annoying at this point and the fact they're clueless enough to suggest that it's "funny and fresh" is just insulting.
It reminds me of the bad fanfiction where they make the characters gay
The IP skinsuit switcharoo is pretty much the norm for them lately. Unfortunately they still get some portion of the fanbase to watch these things, going in nearly blind, on name recognition alone. At least the people who were fooled can avoid much of it after watching the first episode of a series, but movies will still snare those viewers' money in a single go.
I'm a big fan of the tabletop game but I thought it was a bad idea from the start. Existing IP's being told in movie form were often turned into bad movies before Hollywood became self-hating loonies. Now they turn almost everything into crap. I don't plan on seeing it but maybe once it's on a streaming site I might. If only for a laugh at how bad it's going to be most likely. Also, there is a bad history of D&D being turned into bad movies already, I don't think this is going to be any different.
Oh, my sweet summer child. I've been playing DnD since 1998, the year Baldur's Gate got released. Been the forever DM since we played our first game in 2000, third edition. I am a fantasy author, surprise. And this year will mark the 20th anniversary of my group, same group of my little brother and friends, playing 3.5. You know why we've been playing 3.5 for 20 years? Because everything that came after was shit. Fourth edition was a bloody disgrace and fifth was so dumbed down that even the "new nerds" after the culture went mainstream with The Big Bang Theory could understand it. The company has been woke for a decade, with the rapid decline turning into a free fall in the last five years. Sail the seven seas for 3.5, brethren, and let these woke fools go broke.
I truly don't understand why these studios choose to adapt games amd them hire only writers who know nothing about it or despite the source material and usually wants to force thier political ideologies and beliefs into it all smh
Not even the lore and the world is set for a lot of players, because a huge number of players play exclusively in homebrewed campaign settings.
thanks for letting us know. now i know another one to boycott.
i really hope people hear about what's going on and don't watch it, and if you reall have to, grab it while sailing the high seas, because when everyone watches them,. even if they get bad reviews they consider it a success.
It's okay everybody, Wizards of the Coast was looking over their shoulder during the making of this. They're not woke... right?
Between this, revoking licenses and pushing for a new DnD edition, and blackwashing Aragorn in the new Magic the Gathering cards, I'd say Wizards of the Coast are in for a bumpy ride the next couple of years.
I am not a D&D player, but I know damn well that this is such a waste of a chance to make it a literal D&D campaign in the movie, with a group of friends having fun with the new guy getting into this, if you wanted to do a comedy action movie, it would have been comedy gold, like imagine swing stuff like being hurt by arrows and when using a healing potion the arrows pop out, or seing how stupid would the combat look irl, like for turns with dices deciding wether you get a critical hit or the best elf archer failing with an arrow a meter away from the enemy frequently, or showing how absolutely terrifying a mimic is swallowing a character and then the suspiciously identical twin brother continues in the party like nothing happened, ya know, having fun while doing stuff that could be classified as war crimes
Playing with the contradictions of POV when they notice an incongruency, like going to a cave and seeing fine until they notice no one brought a torch, or cheesing a puzzle with a stupid solution, damn, the entire r/dndmemes is absolutely full of ideas to exploit in a movie
I was actually interested in the IP at first, but then I heard the news of what they’d actually done with the movie I changed my mind saying “pass”
Same. I actually feel even more insulted as I was willing to give this franchise a chance.
Don't you mean, *You shall not pass!*
If by some bizarre twist of fate they are being sincere about only doing this because it is funny, it is essentially the "Too soon?" meme. It will blend into what's already going on like water, and it will be perceived to be more of the same. The movie is likely in big trouble. Like gaming, the D&D demographic is mainly 18-35 year old men. I ran a D&D group called The Gamer Gathering for four years during high school and summers off from uni, and in that group it was me, one other girl, and six guys.
I was soooo disappointed when this news came out. Looking at the trailers and story synopsis leading up to, this looked to be an amazing take on D&D. This is from someone who has been playing for the last 22 years (DM for the last 12). I had such high hopes. I was okay with allowing the druid to turn into an owlbear. In the previews I saw, they still showed (at least at first) the competence in the lore, especially in regards to the creatures and monsters you would encounter. How the classes (bard, barbarian, druid, wizard, paladin) are portrayed. I'm all for the Barbarian bashing heads while the Bard makes jokes. My wife does it as her (female) Barbarian in our current campaign. That's pretty much how it would go. An inexperienced young wizard being unsure of himself, making drastic mistakes such as the bridge thing while the overly serious paladin looks in contempt and exasperation. That's killer character dynamic between the two. And the Paladin even looked to be done perfectly with the over serious air, where everything is literal. The deadpan humor is great. It worked for Drax initially, and it can work for a character like this. Even the druid can be seen badass, as she looks to be portrayed as someone who had to grow up too fast. Still holds insecurities, but hides them well behind badassery. Perfect for Tieflings and druids in general.
And then those idiots opened their mouths. They could have easily raked in the dough by just keeping their mouths shut. It's almost like they wanted their movie to flop. For what? So you could target people and blame them instead of looking at the real reason you failed, which would be to find a mirror? Absolutely crushing
D&D hasn't been "real" D&D for decades, imo. The real "OD&D" " White booklets" first edition is still out there...highly recommended.
I love 1e AD&D. Rangers rock!
I get Chris Prine and Chris Pratt confused.
As dungeon master and 34 years of D&D … this movie 🍿 is some Captain Planet inclusion brochure put to film .
I honestly was looking forward to it based off of the previews, but based off of Knights Watch and your own comments I am thinking I will wait at least until it comes to streaming or rental
If you ignore the articles and comments, and just look at the release lineup as it's being released between John Wick and Mario. It's going to need a miracle after the first weekend to break even.
It's definitely Front Loaded, It almost made 40 Million on Its Opening Weekend.
But You're right, Mario is going to Bury It.
Just watched the movie. They were joking about it.
The men were flawed but that's only like character development. They grew from weak to strong. I especially enjoy Simon's growth.
Spoiler:
I especially enjoy his short fight with Sofina. While he couldn't defeat her, it was fun to watch.
So, I wonder if you've made a retraction video after the movie came out?
With the all the emasculate male bit the staff is saying , hard pass on this You can make all the dumpster fires you want , I don't have to watch
Am I the only one who hears the “we also love emasculating men” line as extremely sarcastic or snarky rather than something that should be taken seriously?
Chris Pine played Mr. Murry in the 2018 adaptation of "A Wrinkle in Time".
At this point, I wonder if the best D&D movie we're going get is Dungeon and Dragons 2: Wrath of the Dragon?
It may have had a cheap budget. But, at least it was made by fans.
I agree about that.
Unfortunately the writers are trying to copy Guardians of the Galaxy instead of paying attention to the setting.
That setting is Neverwinter and there's a much better story that's been whittled down in the pc and console version!
Oh yeah, I was just counting the live-action on screen version.
If I was to count on other D&D media. Am sure, up coming movie could be out class by the 80s cartoon, Boulders Gate and quest books.
If this movie could pull off a 5 to 7. On A scale of 1-10. That would be pretty decent. But, there are most certainly stronger D&D stories out there .
I actually thought the first trailer looked like it could be fun. After hearing the director's comments, it is a pass for me.
I thought the dragons in the trailer looked cool, but now I think I probably won't watch the movie. I may even just skim through it at home for the dragon scenes.
Calling it fresh when it's in every film made me laugh lol
Was looking forward to seeing this. Not any more. I can hold out for streaming or DVD...
it’s a great movie, give it a chance
This movie and Wonder Woman have solidified Chris Pine as a Cuckasaurus Rex
I saw nothing the trailer that would bring me a D&D fan to this movie.
I 100% agree that we need a serious, epic D&D movie, something along the lines of Peter Jacksons LotR's. Hollywood seems to feel that D&D is a stupid kids game, something to laugh at, not take seriously and although the players of the game may sometimes laugh, act stupid, even get drunk while playing I can honestly say in over 40 years of roleplaying ever person who I did D&D with took the actual game and what was happening in it seriously.
As a D&D fan, I was expecting to be disappointed. However, I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed this movie. It has a lot of great and accurate references. I felt like they respected the source material and I didn't notice an obvious woke agenda. I found it to be a light hearted and fun fantasy movie.
What’s funny/sad is this is yet another example of people making movies who don’t like movies. Want to see a great female character and a “sidekick” male character, just watch A Long Kiss Goodnight. Geena Davis & Samuel Jackson are great in it.
hey, i was going to see the movie, but after all the Ogl deal, me and my friends(players of dnd since thw time was "ad&d"), we decided to not watch the movie, and now with all this news, i tink that the decision was rigth!
I remember the last time they made a Dungeons and Dragons movie... and it was also a mess.
I actually like the first Dungeons & Dragons more than this New One.
At least they had a Cool Villain with Jeremy Irons.
I'm just not a fan of the adult children mannerisms that are common with the D&D scene. Like how in the trailer the kid steps on the trap to destroy the bridge as the guide is telling them to be careful. It's just poor writing
I'm a Gen X D&D fan so I'm worried about the amount of comedy in the movie. I also can't stand Michelle Rodriguez' voice so I'm not sold on her casting. Pine, Page, Rodriguez and Grant all have big fan followings so a comedic D&D film might work for casual viewers.
I don't watch Hollywood movies anymore. I refuse to give them my money. I want to see Hollywood beg for it's viewers to come back. Let them go broke first.
I saw one of the early screeners they have been doing early screeners for everyone
They should've done a live version of the 80's cartoon.
The Characters from the Cartoon have a Brief Cameo in the Movie.
Anyone who actually likes DnD knows that the journey of developing your character is the most enjoyable part. Having a good dungeon master who restricts your characters growth to some degree makes your character more valuable. You actually had to put time in to make them something.
Having a Mary Sue character is boring. Fastest path to having a campaign disband.
Does Hollywood EVER respect the source material?
Do you need to ask at this point. It's clear they don't.
I was trying to think of an instance where they did, but I was drawing a blank.
cant wait to watch your review it
We can probably place this adaptation in fail pile with all the other failed Hollyweird attempts to get a film version of D&D off the ground.
I was really excited to see the D&D movie because I'm a huge fan of the game, but as the commercials started coming out and the things that the team working on it were saying.. it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'm really disappointed. I mean, who knows, it might be fun, but with what I've seen and heard from this, I'm not sure if I want to waste money to go see it anymore
My first vid i thought, "what an extremely beautiful woman" and clicked the link. Many vids later i still think the same, plus "she has a brain like a quantum computer and a tongue sharper than an obsidian blade and i love it 👌😍 ". You bring it to the point, every time 💯👍👍 This is not entertainment any more, it is political education.
I just saw the movie. You were spot on about the movie. Depressing.
Hugh Grant deserves a Razzie for his Performance as the Movie's Villain.
I was looking forward to it until the directors/writers spoke about it. I'm glad they did. Saved me time and money taking my kids to the theater.
The emasculation was pretty evident in the trailer. Will wait for trusted reviews to see if it works.
