I like what Crist said about "this is not rock bottom. It's where you decided it was enough."
John is a breath of fresh air when it comes to famous people taking accountability and fixing their issues. Much respect to the person he has become.
John Christ, reminds me that Satan is subtle, man! He doesn't have to get ya with alcohol or drugs....the EGO. He gets ya with Ego. You are ONLY loved if you are........fill in the blank. In his case, being funny, entertaining.
God loves ya because YOU ARE HIS!! He Created you! He is your ultimate, non-human FATHER!! John, I appreciate you being open and honest with your heart. It isn't easy, but definitely worth it! ❤
AMEN ✝️❤️🙏
Yes and I get so angry at myself when I listen to satan's lies then God whispers "you are my child" !!
I love that Crist gives the benefit of the doubt to all in his life. He takes accountability for his own issues without putting the burden on others. What a breath of fresh air!
Are these two the same person? They are finishing each others sentences and have the same reactions. Fun to watch this convo!!
When they're both talking, it's hard to tell who's who.
@@DuffyGabi😂
Not fun, but co-dependent? It is like they are trying to impress each other with their insights. It’s actually giving me anxiety to listen to them. I’m outta here. 😫

The first part of this is powerful. We get a glimpse into “why addiction works”, right up until the point it doesn’t. I’m grateful this wasn’t a typical talk about how addicts are bad and just need to “figure it out”. Thanks to John and John!
Yes!!!
"...the thing that you can't joke about, that's the thing that needs to be healed.." wow.
I've been waiting for this episode! Such important stuff for sure! 6 years sober and still going:)
This episode is astounding. So much here for everyone and not just “addicts.”
Yes!, because people can have the same unlined emotion. ! 🤔
This honestly with addiction & recovery needs to get out to as many different audiences as possible. God bless both John & John for being vulnerable, truthful, straightforward & spread hope & healing.
To me, this is where the road to healing begins, talking. Don’t make yourself an “island” and think you’re alone cuz you’re not. We can make it in this life together. Amazing podcast
Dr. Gabor Mate` defines addiction as something that gives you short term relief from a trauma but negatively impacts your relationships, work, finances, etc. It's a method of self-soothing and it doesn't have to be a chemical substance, it can be anything done to the extreme. He gives the example of his own classical music shopping addiction. "You laugh, but I left a woman in the middle of labor to go to the music store and I could spend $5000 in a week." He also said in working with addicts that he never met a woman who hadn't been abused; same with men but different kinds of abuse. Now I look at addiction as a trauma response--and as John says, it works until it doesn't!
I really appreciated this conversation between you two. HAPPY New Year!
Dang, I wasn't treated well at point during labor by my partner and that was hard to put aside but to be left for music?! It is the hardest thing I will ever have to work on to not be angry at addicts. I mean it's okay to be mad for a time but to hold on to that is what I need to work on. They hurt so many people and so little change. 😪
@blueseptember2174 forgiveness doesn't have to equal reconciliation. Sometimes as a result of experiences with certain people, it's safest and healthiest to keep them at a distance. Understanding the why shouldn't excuse their decisions, but it does help come to a place of forgiveness.
Love Dr Gabor Matte. I’ve had a lifelong food addiction in the form of binging and I’m £50 up extra. Trying to figure out what my trauma was I really should give my ex more credit. He traumatised me over and over and over. Thank you for the reminder. I got to get myself feeling better.
@@nailsdeb I think one of the things that keeps us from healing is feeling shame or that we "should get over it" or that no one else would understand. Usually the "no one else" is family or former partners, often the very people whose behavior prompted the stress/coping response. There's value in finding a support group with others so that you're not alone--especially when it's something like food that you still have do everyday.
Addition can be a trauma response. Thank you. I am in the middle of recovery from some trauma. God is healing through addressing it. God has helped me be sober 8 yrs.
At 21:00 that sync In laughter and lean back was so perfect! This was such a great conversation!
Lol
Omg that was like a mirror image, so synced😮
Dito!!!!!
At the end of this I consider myself a bit more educated on how to look at addiction. For that I am grateful to you both.
One of me favorite podcasters and one of my favorite comedians, having great heart to heart. What an amazing way to start 2024!
This is the cross-over I didn't know I needed. Thanks, guys. Appreciate the conversation.
S0 true. Unfortunately, sexual abuse and molestation is behind a pretty high percentage of addictions. And you are right it actually works until it doesn't anymore and sometimes that comes a little too late.
Very high percentage. Also very high percentage of narcissistic abuse backgrounds
Even emotional damage alone can do this. It happened to a friend of mine that's developed cPTSD and AUD.
My New Years resolution was to quit my Delony addiction and I've already relapsed...
😂 I’m 12 episodes deep already today.
😂❤
, hands shaking, the self- bargaining ensues...
Dark humor and levity in despair can be the perfect air bubble necessary to ascend. ❤❤❤
Love his candour. Shows a lot about his character
So good. I think avoidance is addiction’s twin sister. Some are struggling with the things they can’t stop doing. Many are struggling with the things they can’t start doing. Helpful conversation for all of us no matter which twin we battle!
Perfectly said
This fed me so much emotionally and spiritually today.... thank you to you both
I’ve been bingeing John’s podcast Net Positive, so the algorithm sent this episode my way as well 😂💯
when you get to that moment, remember, "those who sow in tears will reap with shouts of joy"
❤
This was an amazing interview! There was so many nuggets of truth spoken at this table today.
Thank you so much, John x 2, as a woman and a mother. So refreshing, deep, and needed. I appreciate you both. Important conversation and message.
This was a really good conversation, there is wisdom for everyone.
By far one of my favorite episodes I’ve ever watched!!! Very encouraging and touching at the same time transparent speak. Thank you for sharing your thoughts John Crist! What a special friendship as well. They just fit together!! Love this❤ and both of these guys!
This was a great interview. I've been following John for many years, probably since he started in comedy. So this was really great. Thanks for sharing and it's when I can share with lots of people and gives a really great perspective. We all need to hear it.
I’m in the middle of a push up with Deloney starts reading the nickel back lyrics. I fall the the flow because I did not expect the lyrics to be read in the tone/vocal quality of nickel back. So funny :)
I can see what Jon loves about his wife. She is intentional and outspoken. It helps keep him grounded when he gets too far away in his dreams. They really do balance each other well.
@johncrist, your story always inspires me! Can’t wait to see you in April!
The collab I didn’t know I needed
He was with Lauren Alaina & it always made sense he was way above her maturity & spiritual level. Hopefully she discovered that as her song “it was me” said. Nice to see he’s doing well.
Such an important and powerful topic of conversation. Thank you, both!
Really great show, very eye opening
Truly, one of the best interviews have heard John C. I laughed, and I cried. Just so very genuine. And those two guys together finishing each other sentences. They truly did that. What a great connection. What great energy to have just met. Great job.
Wow!! Can definitely relate to this!! I love this guy's comedy. There's a reason people are funny. This is it.
Happy New Year Dr Delony, GOD Bless You always.! ❤
Soooooooooooooo good. Blessed me. Watched this months ago and I found myself watching it with fresh eyes again.
some of us were surrounded by people that were like, for instance, my mother, who criticized, said negative nasty things, not loving or affectionate.
And hit a turning point once we were done with that, and that's when I started to recognize and meet nice people, sincere genuine kind supportive loving people.
It wasn't the Christian woman I was friends with in church who was as nasty and negative negative and critical and belittling is my mother ...
it wasn't the well-dressed women and people in society that my mother was like....
Loving people I met in the most unusual places
It was something that changed in my heart in my relationship relationship with God .
This video is very helpful for me today to understand certain aspects of addiction. Thanks for the honesty guys!
Just found you and your show today and I m addicted. Fascinating people and subjects w clear vision topped w compassionate /brutal assessment. Setting people free. ….if they choose.
Yes thank you for this duo!
“Ya’ll know everything about me & ya’ll still wanna hang.” Sounds a lot like Jesus’s convo w/the Samaritan woman. He a Jewish man spoke to a Samaritan women which was unheard of.. mentioned all her husbands then offered her living water then when she went back & told the others, “Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could he possibly be the Messiah?”
Doesn’t matter who you are or what you’ve done.
when you know where your identity lies you’ll never thirst again & you’ll be empowered to treat others w/the same inherent dignity.
I know that’s deep but … true.
Two guys talking about real things. Thank you.
This was so good!
True
Just hit 32 minute mark, I am the cook person. Monday I admitted this and my doctor is starting me on naltrexone. I have been unable to find a stop button on sweets. It isnt overeating, like 2 servings; it is 10 + servings till there is NO MORE. Great show
Taking Low dose naltrexone for pain management and have been eating throughout the night more than I should, like eating four hamburger patties in one night while not sleeping.
Love these two! ❤
Happy new year🎉 loved todays release, i love listening to phone calls but i also enjoyed this guest speaker 🙌🏽
I love this conversation! Blessing and praise for your sobriety!
About to go watch a comedy special now!
Wow thank you so much for this conversation.
I love these one on one conversations❤
You guys knocked it out of the ballpark! Wisdom, insight, reality abounded. Funny how the truth unlocks additional humor. Rock bottom truth. John Christ, I apologize for saying this but I also love your humor. Mmm…hmmm…mmm. 😂
Such a great message. Thanks for sharing this. I appreciate y'all!
Just saw his show two days ago. It was great and packed! So happy he’s on the other end of it all.
I needed this today ❤
Great episode. Needed to hear this.
Y'all should do a monthly podcast together! This was great.
Been waiting on this since October when John posted about it on Instagram
I guess we are all addicted to something im quitting weed right now amd for the past three nights its made it was into my dreams, so i I know I must be experiencing withdrawals. I have to tackle my food addiction next.
Semaglutide helped me with mine
This is awesomeness
First timer on your channel. I'm 65 and I live in Fort Collins Colorado.
I saw John Crist in Colorado Springs Colorado almost 10 years ago. I wanted to see how he was doing now. Great guy to have on your channel. Thank you!❤
@JohnCrist, only Eternity will reveal the countless people whose lives you will reach and enrich with your transparency! We bind through our weaknesses, our struggles, not through keeping our “Christian” masks on! Grateful you found your way back home 🙌🏻hugs from Oklahoma City area! Btw, @JohnCrist you are cherished for who you are….a gifted ,fun loving man if God that He has good plans for!
This was so good and such an interesting perspective. Wish I would’ve heard this a decade ago.
Great Interview💯😀Thanks
Anybody I know who has drug or alcohol issues, there is always deeper problems/trauma. It's their way to self-medicate.
I love and respect both of you, dudes!
this is the first time I ve been in his corner, I knew you could do it John Delony.
Love John Crist!
Thanks for sharing , John Crist.
Lived in the ghetto, the poor, the working class,
but barely getting by,
we called, the addictions, if we even recognized it at the time, that self medication. no time , or process trauma, abuse.
Tired? Have something to pick up you, you have to head to work
Sad or ugly memories? Numb it.
Cant sleep??
Etc.
Just finished - this was awesome. Speaking truth!
That part about alcohol saying that girl’s life. There is a verse in Proverbs about that.
Give drink to him that is ready to die. Or something like that.
Excellent discussion 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Eckert totally stay present or 12 step programs one day at a time.
I just want to get out of survival mode with finances ...
I ended up here as a result of a marijuana addiction I had for 12 years...
waking up terrified without a plan for the future at my age and alone with no family is enough to make me tell the Joyce Meyers of the world that say all this money isn't gonna satisfy you , why don't you give me a fourth of what you have and let me see if I feel better with some financial security
Yes, thank you!
"Wherever the love is you go there." Wow. So true. John exposes the problem I've noticed with families who have too many kids. He's from a family with 8 kids and didn't get his needs met not bc his parents were necessarily bad people but bc they simply had too many kids and couldnt tend to all their emotional/psychological needs. The church really needs to address this problem bc imo if you can't tend to all of your childrens' needs 100% it's a form of child abuse. PERIOD.
Yes. I am one of 6 and was just completely lost in the chaos of it all. It is confusing because society often tells you your needs were met or you had socioeconomic privileges and should be able to thrive.
Child abuse is a bit extreme when they are loving parents stretched too thin. Maybe overwhelmed or poor decision makers/planners. But not abusive.
@@blueseptember2174 it is emotionally abusive or traumatic in many cases. A lot of us have experienced toxic parenting that was modeled as an ideal. That sows a lot of confusion and hurt into a child. That follows them into adulthood.
Stop being so dramatic. Stop misusing the term "child abuse".
@@TEM14411 Stop projecting. Don't misuse the term "child abuse". It has only been about 50 years since the law and society began to see parents physically hurting and/or killing their kids as 'child abuse and a crime. Prior to around 1970, medical providers would note bruises and burns and breaks on kids of all ages, but just noted the chart. So many children's deaths were just closed out as 'accidents' on the parents' or caregivers' word. Child abuse is a serious matter. That you feel you did not get enough of mom and dad's attention is not child abuse.
Our worth is in Jesus
“……don’t take it off the table!” I’m dead! What a moment!!
Your worth is god given…….Apart from anything you DO……..OR……….ACCOMPLISH…….
Dr. John for president!
Great Admiration here and Jonn’s doing the Lords work!!!
Love John Crist
an old 'poem': the what ifs keep dancing in my head: what if you really knew 🥴
33:15 I've never asked that question, because the answer is... five or six people love me. My parents, Jesus, my priest (maybe), my wife, my oldest friend. Everyone else hates me because I'm critical, negative, and question everything.
Thank you
This was really excellent.
My grandma used to say they can’t kill you and they won’t put you in jail when I was afraid of something
I followed because of crist
Awesome podcast! 🙏❤️🙏
Love this level of "sharing"!!! Love Crist's comedy! Afraid he might let some racist homophones ish slip......
I so needed to hear this. On many levels too!
One part that hit me, was about behind the seen church and I would add, my hopes we're, for church to be a safe haven for me. But no, there are fruit loop power hungry people there too.
I thought they would talk about him getting cancelled... When, why? I've followed him everywhere for many years and have never heard of it
There are a couple of interviews here on UA-cam. There is one with Carey Nieuwhof where they fully discussed addiction, getting canceled, rehab, etc.
I’m impressed there was no sugar where he went.
I had tickets to go see John's show in November '23 and had to cancel those plans. I was so sad.
Our thoughts are a garden, our words are the seeds,... we can grow flowers, or we can grow weeds. ❤
Choose your words wisely. 1 Stop. 2. Look, 3 Listen... Count to 10 ,regroup again. I use this with children crossing a road, I use this to reflect, and I used to deflect.. I'm giving myself permission to stop, look at my surroundings, and listen to that voice within me. These are my feelings, they need not be right or wrong, I'm just feeling them, but more often than not if I ignore them or shove them underneath the carpet, at some point I know these feelings I keep pushing down will keep reminding me. Sometimes it's me feeling grumpy or resentful, so the 1-2-3 I use to be more proactive about whatever my feelings are that day. I was never asked as a child how I felt, or what I thought, so I grew up thinking no-one cared and I learned to deflect and reject. It does work. I guess it's my way of acknowledging that little girl, and saying hey ..how are you doing really?❤
Wherever the love is,yeah...go there. Excellent statement.
You can’t be can cancelled. Only God can cancel you. Keep speaking.
I love this
