Ford’s Been Hiding Their Halo Off-Road Sleeper | Expedition Timberline

- Опубліковано 6 лют 2025
- Under the hood of the Expedition Timberline is the same 3.5L EcoBoost V6 that's also found in the Ford Raptor, minus a whole 10hp. It's an incredibly capable offering in Ford's off-road lineup that's actually a bit of a sleeper, sending 440 HP and 510 Lb-Ft of torque to all four wheels. Enjoy!

The Last Circuit.
I've taken it off road twice already. It's a beast but clearance isn't the best, nothing a lift & bigger tires can't fix though. :)
They need to make a MAX version of this. Also they should just bring in the Ford F-150 front end into this with AC/DC outlets, a flat working surface, and an actually shifter instead of the dial.
ONLY if they don't make it EV. For now, that tech needs work. If EV/Hybrid is required to have AD/DC outlets, then I'll do without for now. Easy decision. No way. I'd have to be in a situation where I need a work truck for say 3 years to use and replace regardless, and I need the use the heck out of the outlets AND Hybrid works (not pure EV). Then maybe. Outside of that, no way. I tend to keep vehicles longer.
360 camera with the backup camera on that screen looks amazing. Almost makes the digital AC controls worth it.
This truck is beautiful with mud/dirt on it
The gear shift buttons are probably for towing where it can be very important.
100%
I'm torn between the Ford Expedition Timberline 501A and the Limited with Stealth Performance Package 304A. My driving consists of 70% city, 30% highway, and occasional off-road adventures. Can you share insights on which trim offers better ride comfort and road handling for this usage profile?
Chev Tahoe
@OKAYE-l7s chevy tahoe doesn't come with Electronic parking brake with auto-hold
@nicholasy2715 yeah but ford lost it's balls
My only beef with this trim is that the high package is $10 grand, AND it adds a panoramic moonroof, which essentially kills yours ability to mount a roof top tent. The roof weight limit drops considerable when half of it is made of glass. If Ford would break that package up and put the moonroof as it's own solitary option, I'd be much happier.
Next should be a Ford expedition voodoo edition. Powered by a 5.2l voodoo V8.
Not sure if this is the right engine. Maybe the F-150 Raptor R engine?
Which doesn’t exist
I'm sure you could swap steering wheels with a raptor and activate paddles via FORSCAN.
I just run over a couple meridians, work cones/ and a small trash cans by my work, all on eco mode..no one has complained yet..
Looking at Videos on the Timberline trim, everyone states that it has a rear locker.
But looking at Ford's website and it states it has an Electronic Limited Slip Differential.
That's different from an actual locker, isnt it?
yes, its basically a LSD that you can lock if you need too. With it off it basically acts a regular LSD that will lock if it slips but the locking mode will always keep the wheels the same speeds. I would assume that is the basic principle of it.
It's a Monster!
Compared to my
Ford Expedition "Tinkerbell"
Please ford lost it's manhood
Not gunna lie tho...sync 4 is sick. Other than climate control on touch screen
The ES330 has the pedal box moving option too
Somehow that doesn't surprise me...
Why did you label it a “sleeper” in the title? I never heard you mentioning about sleeping in the back of it.
Lmao sleeper is a term for a fast car that you don’t suspect as fast.
Let’s take it off road then. 😝
Its the Raptor engine, which is not a tune, an actual different engine
The need to make this into an Expedition Raptor and then they can shut up and take my money.
It feels exactly like this just minus the branding.
No paddles? $85,000! 😂
What the hell do you need paddles here for? Hey, I'm a manual transmission guy in cars, and I can appreciate the right performance automatics with paddle shifters in the right vehicle configurations. Normally sports cars or sedans. Some SUVs make sense, but I tend to drop interest in the street and track performance even in a performance SUV. Meaning, a trackhawk or something like that. The full-size SUV isn't that vehicle. Raptor engines and gear are a different kind of performance. People race snails and lawn tractors I guess, but I'm not into it as most aren't. I don't have any need to upshift/downshift like someone at Nurburgring. No fractions of a second to shave in this thing. Not at all. Really, that's true in a Bronco or Jeep-sized SUV. I'd want the manual because of other reasons, but not for track reasons. The driving scenarios on or off-road with this thing lend themselves to utilizing the automatic. This isn't about the shifting experience...which is really a manual stick thing anyway and never happening on this.
The only scenarios for manual gear selection that make sense on this are towing situations, slower-moving off-road situations, or driving on ice where you may want to keep the transmission from shifting for stead control of the wheel...or by your selection where you can let off the gas to manually shift up or down...but that's really treacherous conditions you'd want to stay out of...as opposed to most snow and ice conditions. This manual mode in this case works for those less common scenarios. Most towing wouldn't need it and this isn't a heavy tow vehicle. It won't tow most of the time except for serious overlanders with a camper config probably. No big deal. Still not using manual mode for that.
It does have the ability, which is critical. What doesn't make sense is having the same shifting dynamic as a high-performance car. That dynamic is desired by some for the reason: "just cuz I want it" which is a DIFFERENT VEHICLE. Quite frankly, they got that part right here.
Buttons for gear shifts? Yea no ..sweet truck tho
Haha yes it's a bit odd but I understand. 10-speed does well with the ecoboost on it's own.
in a truck, why not?
It’s not a sports car.
@@MotoMatt418 so? Still wouldn't want buttons. Column shifters are great and reliable
Eco-boost sucks, the bi-turbo collects so much carbon sticky dust that it affects the engine's performance.
All direct injected turbo engines do. Gotta do a carbon cleaning.
Actually this engine has the port AND direct injection. The port injection prevents that carbon buildup common with previous generation ecoboosts.
@@TheHoosiers2008 I know they improved that section but talking to mechanics I try to avoid Ecoboost and Dodge"s V6 pentastar
@@TheHoosiers2008 simply not true, I was test driving a 2018 Ford f150 v6 ecoboost and during my research the ecoboost had lots of carbon build up, I would talk to mechanics rather than trust these salespeople, hasta la vista
@@jorad4887 So, during your “research” you found there was plenty of carbon buildup on an engine design that was only a year in? No, that makes no sense. In 2018 there was not enough data to make any conclusion one way or another. Any research that indicated carbon buildup would have been BEFORE port injection was added. “Ford technician and UA-camr Ford Tech Makuloco is no stranger to the entire family of Ford EcoBoost engines, having previously explored everything from carbon buildup to coolant leaks in the Ford 1.5L EcoBoost, 1.6L EcoBoost, and 2.0L EcoBoost powerplants, as well as leaky Ford F-150 models equipped with the twin-turbocharged Ford 3.5L V6 EcoBoost. Now, he’s back with a new video that takes a closer look at the revamped, dual-injection, second-generation Ford 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine to see if its revisions have fixed those carbon buildup problems once and for all.”
🎉
Ain’t a truck.
Muh Truck, Billy get Muh truck
Built on truck frame, 4wd, it’s a truck. Just not a pick up truck
@@BlackRam17 how it’s built is not a useful way to define a consumer good. What it does is. It’s designed to haul people.
Whoever approved the orange trim should get fired
Nice review
Thanks! Was surprising to say the least.
Nice truck but hate that shifter knob….
