I’m a fan of Graham Greene and Wes Studi. My favorite movies are the Last of the Mohicans and Dances with Wolves. After reading the book Black Elk Speaks, I have a better understanding of what my Native American brothers and sisters have gone through and are still going through. Being white I cry when see how they have been treated. I pray Graham Greene continues to make great films. Thank you for helping me understand the evils of the past

I absolutely love Wes Studi's character of Joe Leaphorn! He's a wonderful actor!

Absolutely agree. Some of them should have been nominated for an Oscar at least. Especially Study.

Wes Studi is not Joe Leaphorn, Zahn McClarnon played Joe Leaphorn in Dark Winds

I know it was not a western but Adam Beech was great in Windtalkers. About the Navajo code talkers in WWII . I met Al Smith the youngest marine of the group, he also had the part of the old Man at the bus. He was also an advisor on the film.

You didn’t mention that Jay Silverheels played Geronimo in Broken Arrow. Great video, good to see American Indians recognized for their contributions to the American culture. 👍

Chief Dan George is my favorite, especially for his humorous delivery style, but I like Wes Studi a lot, very good actor and a great bad guy in Last of the Mohicans.

You can not logically say 'finally, recognition for native Americans'. Tribes of all areas have been known very well since Europeans have been in this continent for over five hundred years. And if you're meaning only respect that's as known too. War, ethics, cruelty and hostility does not equal ignorance or not acknowledging culture. It's domination, not lack of recognition.
There are an infinite number of stories of cooperation and kindness sprinkled within the horrors and traditions of all sides and all peoples. Indians were extremely warlike. And cruel for a few thousand years before Europeans showed up. It wasn't murder then, just survival. It's always that way. Recognize global history without boundaries or distinctions.

Europeans were extremely warlike and cruel for a few thousands years and became worse after stealing North America.

Awesome video - one of your best!!! Great choice of actors, think every one of them steels every scene that they are in. Few of my favorites listed: Graham Greene, Wes Studi, Chief Dan George, Adam Beech.
Hope you do a few more videos concerning Native actors and/or actresses!!

I had an opportunity to meet Steve Reeves at a Native American Powwow some years ago. What a good looking, dignified and gracious gentleman. I felt so honored when he offered to shake my hand and chat with me (a homely 70-year-old white woman}.

Looking forward to a companion release on American Indian actresses. I'll seed that with some of the better known (though not for playing American Indians):
    1. Eartha Kitt (Cherokee)
    2. Heather Locklear (Lumbee)
    3. Pam Grier (Cheyenne)

There were many American Indian actors in movies as far back as the 1930s. They tended to not have speaking roles until the 1940s. John Ford used many but mixed them with European actors so you would often see a combination. It seemed to be stranger seeing a group comprised of some American Indians and some European actors than all one, or the other. I have yet to meet any person of American Indian heritage who prefers Native American. Everyone I've ever known didn't care, not even a little bit.

My all time favorite is Chief Dan George The right amount of humor mixed with the right amount of serious. My next choice is torn between Wes Studi and Graham Green. They are both great actors that portray not only Native Americans but also the native attitude.

Was a great perfomance Wrangler, I appreciate it. Funny how many of the Native actors came from the east and Canada. By the way, Dances with wolves was written with Comanche and all Lakota have historical comanche (and Kiowa) names.Handsome guys and very good actors. Ludwig

... there is iron in your words Josie Wales....it's a crime that Chief Dan George didn't get an Oscar for "little big man", should have got one for Josie Wales as well, Jay Silverheals is another, people forget how busy an actor he was, and of course as Tonto... there are a bunch of great ones, Wes Studi is amazing, he was a great Magwa in Last of the mohicans and unforgettable as Geronimo... still think Rodney Grant or Graham Green should have won an Oscar for Dances with Wolves.... Graham Green was great in Thunder heart as well....
