    Had the pleasure of watching this awesome match at the Rep live and in person! Some stunning moments. For me the ending was very harsh on MES - the double bounce was clear enough, and on the final point Gawad moves forward into the line and hip checks MES, at least a let potentially a stroke. The inconclusive call was a double punishment, because it was incorrect, and because it "used up a review". The WSO rules (either in the rules or in appendix 4) don't mention "inconclusive" decisions, which perhaps should be clarified - my view would be there is a strong argument that inconclusive should result in the player keeping their review, to prevent the situation here. All credit to Gawad however, he is marching his way back up the ranking and if anything looks a lot fitter and perkier than he did at his previous peak. With Asal "unavailable", and Coll, Elias and Farag not really firing on all cylinders recently, there is a real possibility for Gawad to go the distance!

    • @davidhansen1811
      @davidhansen1811 Рік тому

      Yes it should be possible to greatly magnify the part of the view that is critical to the decision and go frame to frame if needs be. This is the British Open for goodness sake and there was (as they say) 'nothing between them' at hit point in time and it was the end of a 5 game match! A correct decision, an actual decision, was possible and was ESSENTIAL. (I think it was a double.)

    • @filda2005
      @filda2005 Рік тому

      gawad can't disapear in space. He did not intentionally block a way to the ball while returning to "T". Thus the No Let.
      After all those fair points this one is visibly more on the edge, but in context Mo had run pro-actively to the front instead of defense.

    Fun Fact: Until 1978, the accepted colloquial for a resident of Birmingham was a 'Minger', however this was no longer acceptable and so was changed, mainly to avoid confusion with a type of valuable, Chinese vase.

    Can't agree with that last point 'no let' from the referee, Mohamed was not allowed access to the ball, bad news in that regard. A great match overall though. Gamal has had two 5 setters one after the other, we'll see how he fronts up for the next one.

    HUGE block by gawad on a poor dropshot at the last point. The referee did a big mistake at such a crucial moment and this could easily have been avoided by just taking a second look. These type of decisions force players to play dirty, either by blocking like Gawad did here or by forcefully push in this case Gawad towards the ball/sidewall and claim an easy stroke. Which I'm happy Elshorbagy didn't do, but probably would have done when he was younger.
    This type of blocking should be punished with conduct stroke. And the referees should be more thoughtful when they make decisions like this. And when can we get a highspeed camera to fix the pickup issues?
    I feel like we could get a more fair game and better squash out of the players with help of technology and a overhaul of the refereesystem.
