    Another main change which really works is they made luffy a bit more level headed compared to his manga counterpart while retaining his goofy happy go lucky personality. He was also unhinged and chaotic in the anime especially in the beginning. This could have been a major turn off for first time viewers who don't have an idea how shounen heroes can be.

    I didn't expect Garp is getting introduced too early and I also didn't expect Coby has more screen times now. Which is really good to see how Coby and Luffy are going to find their own dreams even in different opposite side. We see the pirate's life in Luffy's POV, and we see the marine's life in Coby's POV, so it's a good change.
    Also, I don't expect Luffy will have a lot of different shirts either instead of sticking with his red sleveless shirt.

      HAHAHAHA funny you mentioned the different outfits.
      I like the Garp and Koby twist in the story. We get a glimpse of Garp's strength and his concern for Luffy. Atleast we know he really made a move to prevent Luffy straying off path. But he respected his dedication and the scene turned out like a send off for Luffy.
      I just wished he was more relaxed.
      I also like the build up of Koby and Helmeppo's characters. Garp didn't take them immediately. He got to know them and decided to train them himself.

      Garp wants Luffy to be a marine because this puts him on a path thats more safe and secure. But he sees how stubborn Luffy is in wanting to a pirate, where the chances of danger and death is highly imminent. Garp wanted to see if Luffy has the resolve and grit to face such danger even when backed into a corner, knowing if he doesn't have that then he surely wouldn't last and he might as well give up.

    They also changed Sanji's character A LOT. In the live-action, Fullbody and and another guest get into an argument. Sanji tells them that the rules of the Baratie are "no fighting and no wasting food". When they throw their plates on the floor, he offers them wine and tries to calm the situation down. When they start fighting each other, Sanji attacks them as if to stop the fight, he then tells the guests that there is no cause for alarm and "please, enjoy your meals".
    Now, in the manga, Sanji grabs Fullbody by the neck because he wasted food. The other cooks have to hold him back and he even threatens Fullbody's life. He regularly starts fights at the Baratie according to the other cooks. When the fight is over, it's Patty who says "Please enjoy your meals" (Sanji doesn't give a shit about customer service)

No matter how goofy they seem to some people it is great to see and adds that personality flare to the series. Garp, Helmeppo and Koby were definetly the most benefited by this version, loved their inclusion! i feel Oda probably didn't had Garp in mind back when he wrote east blue, and felt like it would be proper to introduce him earlier, really works well in this context, and i love to see a more detailed look on why Koby and Helmeppo end up being friends after their rocky start. Helmeppo in particular was great, he was soo hateable at first, but i really believed he changed by the end, he had a great arc, that actor deserves mayor props, he was hillarious, super punchable at first and endearing at the end.
    Also can't ignore how this expanded role for Koby greatly emphasized the duality of the factions of One Piece, with the whole "good marines and bad marines" thing. By this point in the original marines weren't very well developed, and this made them instantly more interesting.

    The changes they chose to apply worked really well, maybe because Oda himself approved them knowing his key characters will still be the same afterwards. Zoro joined Luffy 100% not because he returned his swords, but because he'd rather let him die for his dream against Mihawk rather than stop him. Arlong's message was delivered much clearer for just a few episodes. Kuro's change was so big, and yet gave the same feeling of threat and near hopelessness. Even Kaya and Usopp's kiss felt needed for some reason because of how complete they have fleshed out their relationship that blossomed from deep friendship.
    And I have to commend how they utilized Garp, Helmeppo and Coby between episodes and showed the growth that we never really processed in the anime at that point in the story.

    It sounds like we may see more stuff like this early on in future seasons, like the Garp grandpa reveal in east blue saga instead of end of Enies lobby saga. Like maybe season 2 with the giants and little garden, they could get a map of Skypeia and leave it as set up after Alabasta saga. Or maybe Aokiji will show up in season 2 trying to find Robin while she’s still with Baroque Works

    If the show felt a bit rushed in certain areas i wouldnt blame that on the crew. I would say thats a Netflix problem. Netflix refuses to give shows enough episodes to establish a proper show. Their microwave approach to producing content is ridiculous and has a track record of failing. Now with that said Oda and the rest of the crew performed amazingly with what they were given (10 episodes). The show could have benefited narratively if each straw hat member was given a three episode ark with a finale. I'd say 13 episodes would have been the bare minimum with 15 being the max.

    Feel like they made 1 huge fail with Koby though. Originally Koby stands up to Alvida and that makes Luffy respect and help him, in the live action Luffy insults Alvida for him, Koby never shows any courage and Luffy really has no reason to help him. There's also 0 reason why they couldn't have done this properly, Koby and Luffy were literally standing next to each other, Koby should've just said it himself. Imo this is the worst change, since it required 0 effort to do properly.

    • @sakurachan288
      @sakurachan288 Рік тому

      I think I understand your point. But at the same time, Koby not having the courage at first is a little more realistic for live action. Alvida in LA is much more scary, threatending and violent so naturally, it wouldn't take such a short time to stand up to her. He was terrorized for so long and he witnessed people killed by Alvida for saying the wrong thing. AND he was the one who had to clean up the mess!
      Luffy helped him for reasons I think is different from the anime. Koby has a prejudice against pirates saying they're scum, and Koby tells him he can't eat until Alvida does. Luffy is a good guy, that's enough of a reason for Luffy to help Koby and to show there can be good pirates like the ones he idolized. Hence his constant "I'm a different kind of pirate."
      And Koby punched Helmeppo when he tried to stop Luffy. That's still an act of courage he managed to show in the first episode before he and Luffy separated. So I wouldn't say he didn't show ANY courage.

    • @FutureVegeta
      @FutureVegeta Рік тому

      @@sakurachan288 I feel like you're over apologetic about the LA, from what we see from Alvida she isn't really worse then in the OS and Kobys situation was the exact same, yet somehow you find it an excuse for changing a major point in the series. He doesn't seem to help him for any reason at all in the LA and Koby isn't actually given much choice unlike in the OS where everything happens because Koby stood up to Alvida.
      Lastly I don't see how punching Helmeppo was showing courage at all and if it was supposed to it failed hard. How does KOing someone from their blind spot show any courage at all? It's cowardly if anything.

    • @sakurachan288
      @sakurachan288 Рік тому

      @@FutureVegeta Agree to disagree. Luffy is a good person, he doesn't need a huge reason to help someone who clearly needs it. I don't remember much from the anime so as a viewer whose watching from a different point of view, I could still see what led to Luffy wanting to help out Koby. Plus, Luffy asked for his help first on directions, and Koby helped. Why wouldn't he return the favor and help Koby get away from a bad pirate?
      And from someone who probably hasn't shown a glimpse of a fighting streak before meeting Luffy, stopping Helmeppo was an act of courage. It's still valid in my eyes.
      Tbh the LA has bigger flaws than what you mentioned. Plus, we get to see over the course of the whole season on Koby's courage. It's not immediate like the anime, it was slowly building up which made his eventual courage more rewarding imo
