"Pick Up the Pieces" is a 1974 song by the Average White Band from their second album, AWB. The principal composer of the track was founding member and saxophonist Roger Ball. It was the group's most successful song, and features one of the most recognizable grooves in funk music. It is essentially an instrumental, apart from the song's title being shouted at several points in the song. sample (help·info) The song features an intro 4 measures of C7#9,sus 4 (C F B-flat E-flat) afterwards in the theme 8 measures of Fm7 (F A-flat C E-flat), 2 measures of Bb7 (B-flat D F A-flat), 4 measures of Fm7.
"Pick Up the Pieces" was released in the United Kingdom in July 1974 but failed to make an impression. When the album was released in the United States in October 1974, radio stations started to pick up on the song, and on 22 February 1975, it went to the top of the US singles chart and peaked at number five on the soul charts.[1] After its US success, the song charted in the UK and climbed to number six. "Pick Up the Pieces" also made it to number eleven on the US disco chart
Wow, that crowd is so dead! I would be dancing in the aisles with that song.
Billy Squier is a guy I am respecting more and more!
Don’t think anyone is more talented than Edgar Winter.
They had more than one hit. Don't forget "Cut The Cake". Also, Stuart toured with paul McCartney several times. He is a real deal musician.
2019 Finally found Hamish Stuart. Where was he hiding? :)
Dammm Billy squier slappin the bass guitar!! Im impressed.
And Billy is gorgeous--better now than before.
Edgar Winter and Ringo too??!!? WOW....great video! Thx for uploading.
hamish with ringo and edgar winter wow what a jam
OMG this is the guy from Average White Band----I would NEVER have guessed. Fabulous.
Oh yeah & boy check out his ginger afro!
Hamish is still doing great!
Timeless tune....
Hamish is a frigging legend
I had luck to be in this concert, and was suprised how good it sounded, specially this Edgar solo sax!!
He treated the tune with respect even copying the first few bars of the original solo note for note .
Wow never knew Edgar Winter could play Sax absolutely amazing
Edgar Winter can play just about anything!
Saxophone 🎷, keyboards, drums and percussions, pin songs, compose and arrange . Edgar Winter is what I consider near genius level musician.
Peace.
I saw this band play at Westbury. Great show
Don't know what you're talking about Ms. Fanmaxis3004...AWB had way more than one hit, this one just happened to be their #1 signature hits!!!😅😅😊
Would love to see Sir Ringo collaborate with the Funk Brothers and Archie Bell ,Booker T and Larry Graham, dude Rock and Soul all the way!
Such a great performance!
Ringo's concerts are so much more fun & eclectic than Paul's who's more a tribute act of himself sadly, I know which one I'd go too & Ringo's clever & no one however big would turn down an invite if free, tho he needs more women artists on I think.
I was there at the Greek.
Where's this music today??
You mean Billy Squiers all star band!!!!!!! 😷😷😷😷😷
o.o art masters
@Girlsinblack1411: No, just a big fan
some link to download the hole show complete?, I really want it..... Really great post RichardAllStarrBand ! Thanks!
Fender Mustang bass.
I never once thought that a member of AWB would somehow make it into Ringo's all Starr band, and they only had one hit, which is this one.
good one.. drummer Pete Best never thought Ringo would make it into Mister Best's band the Beatles either,,lol
+fanmaxis3004 , AWB are definitely not a one hit wonder band! With classics, A Love of Your Own, Cut the Cake and Work To Do. Just to name a few, dude did you grow up in a cave?????
Well Karen, yes I heard those songs before but they were not #1 hits!
AWB had more than one hit,do your research.
The only AWB songs heard on the radio I heard are this and cut the cake
I expected this to be lame........How wrong I was
Ringo Starr is so great, he has to have a second drummer doing the heavy lifting. What a overrated drummer. If it wasn't for the group The Beatles, he would be nothing...
@Proud Canuck So you want to name call because you can't handle the truth..
I think the second drummer is his son & Ringo sings & comes down to the stage so he needs someone on the drums tho he can do both as he did in the early 60s. Top drummer. Wash out your ears & put Abbey Road on & hear his drumming.
How long have you played the instrument?
@@HankFinkle11 long enough.
@@vaughnmiller4371 Oh yeah... you "play" a mean air drum set.
