  • Oliver Wakeman : Anam Cara : Album Review : Celtic Rock / PROG
Imagine Renaissance, aspects of Loreena McKennitt, All About Eve, Blackmore's Night. Now add lyrical stories so rich they could easily be mini dramas or even movies. But we haven't finished! add layers of instrumentation with lush heart felt songs with soaring vocals, guitar and keyboards solos. All this weaving in and out of a soundscape that visits Rock, Jazz, PROG and all points in between. Yes, I like it! - Phil

I checked this album on UA-cam, after your video. It is a good album. Great voice, great keyboards and songs. It reminds me of the style of Ritchie Blackmore's band with his wife. Obviously the guitar's prominence is replaced by the keyboard, and it does not have as much of a medieval touch.
I am a fan of his brother Adam, and his band Jazz Sabbath. I am surrendered to Jazz Sabbath. The invented story about the band gave it that touch of humor that I like too.
What a family, what a saga of brilliant musicians, the Wakemans!

I`ve just listened to four tracks on this album (at random)and all four were fabulous! Beautiful arrangements, great vocals and some of the guitar work reminded me a little of John Mitchell from Arena (which is a very good thing!).
