I have lived in both Lisbon and Porto as a foreigner / immigrant and my opinion of this is: Lisbon is so much prettier with the colorful houses and that beautiful bridge in Alcantara. The sunsets in Lisbon are gorgeous, the light is just different, and it is always sunny unlike in Porto. If i was gonna have a vacation, I choose Lisbon. But as an immigrant working here I choose to live in Porto / North of portugal so I can live like a local with budget friendly rent (Lisbon rents are just insane) and more nature around me and better food and I feel like the locals in Porto are just so much more warm and welcoming. of course all of this is just from my limited experiences in portugal so far
@Gehn Saavedro i mean porto IS beautiful in a kind of melancholic, haunting way. i mean the architecture is stunning. it is just that, for example, try to go to cais do sodre or the docas in alcantara on any random afternoon and watch the sunset and somebody pllaying guitar in the background or whatnot. i mean, the beauty in lisbon is more like a feeling, you know. it is not just the aesthetics of it. it's like it's bright and happy and everything is well.

Lázaro, even the centre of Gaia has its spots...
Next must visit Minho - Viana do Castelo, Braga, Barcelos, Ponte de Lima, Arcos de Valdevez, Caminha, Vila nova de Cerveira (The most beautiful swing in Portugal), Valença, Monção, Melgaço, Parque Natural do Geres, etc...
I think this would be a really great way to travel, especially as a solo traveler. I want to meet locals, eat with the locals and see the less-touristy hidden gems... but I’m very shy so having a guide to teach you what you want to learn, introduce you to people you might never meet and to be your companion would be terrific!

I love the idea! I love to explore and for the most part I don't mind being on my own... I definitely have never wanted to do one of those big group tours with 30 people seeing 10 countries in 5 days... if you know what I mean. But to have your own personal tour guide/friend who shows you the cool little places, gives you lot's of history and will eat lunch with you... Perfect! (it's something I wanted to do when I was young... out of high school - a million years ago). When I get settled, we will have to set something up!!

Hello Amalie and Joen, thanks for an interesting video. Between Porto to Lisbon I rather prefer Porto. Main reason is that people from Porto is far more friendly than people from Lisbon. Also I like a lot their accent and of course the food over there. Having family nearby is another reason. Best regards from David Quental.
I was born in Lisbon, I live in Lisbon for 22 years. I'm 23 now, and I'm living in Porto district, very close to Estadio do Dragão (Dragon Stadium) And I can say, Porto district it's much more better than Lisbon, the life style, the streets, the food, and the people are very different. And I can say I love Porto so much on my first year. I don't switch Porto for Lisbon in my life! Never

Finally, this guys get to know, some of real Porto. It took them, quite a while, but eventually with locals help, with guides, that show them some of the real feel, to be, a "Tripeiro" ( Porto born citizen...). Even Amelia, correct her self, that, Porto was not melancholic. 😳😄😁. Congrats, for seeing what you couldn't see.
There are many hidden gems in Porto its a lot more than it looks. Lived 8 tears there and loved every second still don't know it properly. Don't forget to get to the beach and other beachesin Gaia too.
Lisboa is a fantastic city with fantastic people and they dont tell bad things about people from other regions! They have much more important things to do!

You were right! Porto can be indeed a bit melancholic type of city sometimes, but not on a "sad" way, is just that lisbon use to be really rich and porto really poor, surviving with the fishermans and work a lot while the nobles and important people were down south, so yes even the architects and artist that made the city kinda made it inspired in a bit of melancholic stories or love for the people and the efforts we made 200 300 years ago, however most of the architects were AMAZING just artists back then at least in portugal were very bad paid ;)....u guys are amazing btw

I'm recommending 4 restaurants that make the best francesinha I've ever tried: - Brasão in Porto (there's many but my favorite one is the one next to the coliseu) - Cervejaria São Miguel in Lixa, ( Felgueiras) Porto - Âncora d'ouro in Figueiró, Amarante - Taberna Mat's in Maçorra, Felgueiras Hope you visit some of this next time :)
After living in the two cities and being from the North: Porto is more beautiful than Lisbon, the people in Porto are more welcome and way more friendly, the food is not great in the city of Porto ( however, food in the North is amazing but in smaller cities), Porto is a more relaxed and slower pace than Lisbon, Porto is way cheaper than Lisbon, is smaller you can go faster from point A to B, but Lisbon has a way better weather and the seaside is better ( the water is not as cold and the sea is calmer so you can swim), there are more job opportunities in Lisbon. In the past, I use to prefer Lisbon but now I definitely prefer Porto as I feel more home and also feel like because has less tourism I am still treated as a normal Portuguese person unlikely in Lisbon where if you go for dinner or lunch in the city centre they see you like a walking wallet which is very sad. In resume definitely Porto, as the environment and vibe of the city is nicer
@@br3menPT If you mean mentally by neighbors still speaking with each other, helping each other, the locals as a community looking after each other and simple things like you go to the restaurant two days and in the second one knowing your name and asking how are you and being polite, the people in business don't look at you as a walking wallet, etc, etc so I prefer how it was 30 years ago I doubt Lisbon mentality is an evolution of society. Last time I have been in Lisbon I had a few bad experiences with locals and I love Lisbon but the mentality is not amazing is more individual, selfish, and with the feeling of superiority apart from the people and very expensive city Lisbonne is amazing.
All cities look amazing with sun, even Porto, the colours the shapes. You must bring a Portuguese in your videos, they know the places and the best spots, the first was Nuno, and them the others...add layers to your videos. I envy you both, but I don't mind one day our President will give a medal for promoting the country at the best level, fun and exciting, I will wait to that day.

there is NO wine in Brussels Mussels!!!!!!!! they screwed you over,i wrote the recipe here in the comments,there is only celery and a leak and onions in REAL Belgian Mussels,believe me I make them for more than 50 years,some cooks like to improvise but that has nothing to do with traditional Belgian mussels!!

However, my friend is from Antwerp and she taught me how to steam mussels using a bit if dry white wine, after frying up a bit of leeks, garlic and carrots. To each their own, I guess. I was looking for the recipe of the seafood dish they made in the special domed pot, not the mussel recipe. 🙂

there's many hotels in town, you can check out Yeatman too, which belongs to one of the Port groups... plus Intercontinental, many boutique hotels... btw, local dish and which is being overshadowed nowadays is tripas à moda do Porto. Tripe is what locals kept after giving the meat to the navigators, as per the legend. That's why they are "tripeiros"

We love your videos and are convinced Portugal is the place to be, we are planning a trip there (Lisbon proper) in June for our 25th anniversary, we will be renting a beach villa and bring our kids and grandkids, and hope to be moving in 2.5 years time to Portugal! Off to your next video!
I like the people, sights , and architecture of Porto better... I prefer the food in Lisbon. Regarding the people, it’s not that they are not nice in Lisbon, it’s just feels like a faster pace.
Francesinha with no fries??? However, you have good taste: alheira is amazing as well. You should try "tripas à moda do Porto". Regarding food, Porto is much better than Lisbon, as in Porto you find the best typical Portuguese food. In Lisbon you have a lot of those fancy Michelin star restaurants, which I don't care much for anyway. A suggestion: try the francesinha from Santiago. It's the best.

Lisbon has overall more sun and more events/things to do otherwise Porto is way better city mostly because of food, architecture and of course People. People from porto are much more authentic and warm compared to "alfacinhas"
To kill some calories 2 walk suggestions: Passadiços do Paiva (Arouca geopark) and Santiago trail along the coastline from Labruge to Vila do Conde(~11km): Castro de Sampaio, beaches almost desert and grilled fish at Vila Cha. Take the metro or Uber to come back to Porto
I agree, Porto with better architecture, Lisboa with better food. My favorite francesinha is at Bufete Fase. My favorite Port bar is Bacchus Vini on the Riberia close to the bridge.
I am from the north of Portugal and I got married in Porto. But Lisbon has much more to offer. For living and holidays, I will vote for Lisbon for sure. It become a cosmopolitan city over the years. Porto is nice to visit once in a while. For eating is complicated, Porto has new trendy restaurant popping up; I think you can have a nice variety of restaurants and food in both places. ;)

Cufra is brilliant, but I disagree with "the best". It's up there, that's for sure, but I have a hard time stating one as "the best". You need to try: Santiago, Bufete Fase, Capa Negra II and Cervejaria Galiza and see for yourself... sure It might take a week, but what better excuse do you need to spend a week in Porto? :D
Não é. O Minho é mais reconhecido pela sua gastronomia a nível internacional do qualquer zona do país. Come-se bem nos tascos de Lisboa, mas também a Francesinha é um prato para comer de longe a longe, devido às suas quantidades calóricas. Só no Minho, tens Vila Do Conde, Póvoa De Varzim com um peixe e um marisco fresco espetacular e nas carnes nunca desilude. Agora, quem tem "bolsos largos" vai a Matosinhos comer só melhor marisco e peixe fresco que existe. É tanta gente a passear com as suas máquinas, que já está marcada a importância da região. Claro que pode haver um sítio ou outro que não se coma bem. É um facto. No que consta ao Porto é preciso saber os restaurantes onde se come e ter experiência e conhecimento.

Lisboa became so touristic that she has lost her "soul"... you need to search deeply to find the true Lisboa. But in Porto, his soul remains. There is many tourist-like spots in Porto, but to feel the real authenticity in Porto is much easier. The food is better in Porto, the people are nicer in Porto, they will seem rough at first sight, but once you get a smile fom them, you'll have a friend that will invite you for the sunday lunch with their family and invite you to come back each time you are near by. Porto is "darker" often, it's not so shiny as Lisbon, but that is his real charm. Is like a rock that you discover and you don't give much credit in the begining, but once you look right into its interior, in its soul, you discover the most amazing diamond. Porto, you don't see. You feel him. And that is why Porto is the most beautiful city in the world to me. It feels like I'm home, even it's not my hometown. If you spend a week in Porto, you'll fall in love and you'll understand exactly what I'm saying, because he is not at sight. Learn potuguese and then go out though the streets and talk to people. You'll see the true (Portu)gal. (And yes, Lisbon is a yound lady in a sunday light dress and Porto is a gentleman in a suit, with his hat and cane).
Francesinhas are very good in so many places in Porto, in this case they went to CUFRA in Boavista (Porto). In the surroundings of Porto you can eat to a very good Francesinha, you just need to know where.

You were right! Porto can be indeed a bit melancholic type of city sometimes, but not on a "sad" way, is just that lisbon use to be really rich and porto really poor, surviving with the fishermans and work a lot while the nobles and important people were down south, so yes even the architects and artist that made the city kinda made it inspired in a bit of melancholic stories or love for the people and the efforts we made 200 300 years ago, however most of the architects were AMAZING just artists back then at least in portugal were very bad paid ;)....u guys are amazing btw

- Brasão in Porto (there's many but my favorite one is the one next to the coliseu)
- Cervejaria São Miguel in Lixa, ( Felgueiras) Porto
- Âncora d'ouro in Figueiró, Amarante
- Taberna Mat's in Maçorra, Felgueiras

After living in the two cities and being from the North: Porto is more beautiful than Lisbon, the people in Porto are more welcome and way more friendly, the food is not great in the city of Porto ( however, food in the North is amazing but in smaller cities), Porto is a more relaxed and slower pace than Lisbon, Porto is way cheaper than Lisbon, is smaller you can go faster from point A to B, but Lisbon has a way better weather and the seaside is better ( the water is not as cold and the sea is calmer so you can swim), there are more job opportunities in Lisbon. In the past, I use to prefer Lisbon but now I definitely prefer Porto as I feel more home and also feel like because has less tourism I am still treated as a normal Portuguese person unlikely in Lisbon where if you go for dinner or lunch in the city centre they see you like a walking wallet which is very sad. In resume definitely Porto, as the environment and vibe of the city is nicer

@@br3menPT If you mean mentally by neighbors still speaking with each other, helping each other, the locals as a community looking after each other and simple things like you go to the restaurant two days and in the second one knowing your name and asking how are you and being polite, the people in business don't look at you as a walking wallet, etc, etc so I prefer how it was 30 years ago I doubt Lisbon mentality is an evolution of society. Last time I have been in Lisbon I had a few bad experiences with locals and I love Lisbon but the mentality is not amazing is more individual, selfish, and with the feeling of superiority apart from the people and very expensive city Lisbonne is amazing.

All cities look amazing with sun, even Porto, the colours the shapes. You must bring a Portuguese in your videos, they know the places and the best spots, the first was Nuno, and them the others...add layers to your videos. I envy you both, but I don't mind one day our President will give a medal for promoting the country at the best level, fun and exciting, I will wait to that day.

there is NO wine in Brussels Mussels!!!!!!!! they screwed you over,i wrote the recipe here in the comments,there is only celery and a leak and onions in REAL Belgian Mussels,believe me I make them for more than 50 years,some cooks like to improvise but that has nothing to do with traditional Belgian mussels!!

However, my friend is from Antwerp and she taught me how to steam mussels using a bit if dry white wine, after frying up a bit of leeks, garlic and carrots. To each their own, I guess. I was looking for the recipe of the seafood dish they made in the special domed pot, not the mussel recipe. 🙂

there's many hotels in town, you can check out Yeatman too, which belongs to one of the Port groups... plus Intercontinental, many boutique hotels...
btw, local dish and which is being overshadowed nowadays is tripas à moda do Porto. Tripe is what locals kept after giving the meat to the navigators, as per the legend. That's why they are "tripeiros"

@@linogalveias Yes I know about the Yeatman. That hotel looked fabulous as well. I believe Classy Couple had a drink on the veranda when they last visited Porto. It's in one of their Porto videos. Tripe is also used in a Mexican soup called menudos, Cubans fry it and serve it with a sofrito and white rice. Thank you for the suggestions.

I like the people, sights , and architecture of Porto better... I prefer the food in Lisbon. Regarding the people, it’s not that they are not nice in Lisbon, it’s just feels like a faster pace.
Francesinha with no fries??? However, you have good taste: alheira is amazing as well. You should try "tripas à moda do Porto". Regarding food, Porto is much better than Lisbon, as in Porto you find the best typical Portuguese food. In Lisbon you have a lot of those fancy Michelin star restaurants, which I don't care much for anyway.
A suggestion: try the francesinha from Santiago. It's the best.

Lisbon has overall more sun and more events/things to do otherwise Porto is way better city mostly because of food, architecture and of course People. People from porto are much more authentic and warm compared to "alfacinhas"
To kill some calories 2 walk suggestions: Passadiços do Paiva (Arouca geopark) and Santiago trail along the coastline from Labruge to Vila do Conde(~11km): Castro de Sampaio, beaches almost desert and grilled fish at Vila Cha. Take the metro or Uber to come back to Porto
I agree, Porto with better architecture, Lisboa with better food. My favorite francesinha is at Bufete Fase. My favorite Port bar is Bacchus Vini on the Riberia close to the bridge.
I am from the north of Portugal and I got married in Porto. But Lisbon has much more to offer. For living and holidays, I will vote for Lisbon for sure. It become a cosmopolitan city over the years. Porto is nice to visit once in a while. For eating is complicated, Porto has new trendy restaurant popping up; I think you can have a nice variety of restaurants and food in both places. ;)

Porto has the ideal european medium size, not too small not too big as Lisbon. Living in Lisbon is more exhausting.
Lisboa muito grande? Tudo uma questão de escala , ou seja aquilo que se considerada grande ou pequeno. Na verdade , não temos uma grande cidade, cidade sozinha sem contabilizar área metropolitana. Temos , sim, uma cidade maior que a outra mas ambas de dimensão media. Lisboa com os seus mil habitantes e Porto com perto de perto de300 mil habitantes não é uma diferença abissal ...Portanto...Abraços!

You need to try: Santiago, Bufete Fase, Capa Negra II and Cervejaria Galiza and see for yourself... sure It might take a week, but what better excuse do you need to spend a week in Porto? :D

Não é. O Minho é mais reconhecido pela sua gastronomia a nível internacional do qualquer zona do país. Come-se bem nos tascos de Lisboa, mas também a Francesinha é um prato para comer de longe a longe, devido às suas quantidades calóricas. Só no Minho, tens Vila Do Conde, Póvoa De Varzim com um peixe e um marisco fresco espetacular e nas carnes nunca desilude. Agora, quem tem "bolsos largos" vai a Matosinhos comer só melhor marisco e peixe fresco que existe. É tanta gente a passear com as suas máquinas, que já está marcada a importância da região. Claro que pode haver um sítio ou outro que não se coma bem. É um facto. No que consta ao Porto é preciso saber os restaurantes onde se come e ter experiência e conhecimento.

Lisboa became so touristic that she has lost her "soul"... you need to search deeply to find the true Lisboa. But in Porto, his soul remains. There is many tourist-like spots in Porto, but to feel the real authenticity in Porto is much easier.
The food is better in Porto, the people are nicer in Porto, they will seem rough at first sight, but once you get a smile fom them, you'll have a friend that will invite you for the sunday lunch with their family and invite you to come back each time you are near by.
Porto is "darker" often, it's not so shiny as Lisbon, but that is his real charm. Is like a rock that you discover and you don't give much credit in the begining, but once you look right into its interior, in its soul, you discover the most amazing diamond.
Porto, you don't see. You feel him. And that is why Porto is the most beautiful city in the world to me. It feels like I'm home, even it's not my hometown.
If you spend a week in Porto, you'll fall in love and you'll understand exactly what I'm saying, because he is not at sight.
Learn potuguese and then go out though the streets and talk to people. You'll see the true (Portu)gal.
(And yes, Lisbon is a yound lady in a sunday light dress and Porto is a gentleman in a suit, with his hat and cane).
Francesinhas are very good in so many places in Porto, in this case they went to CUFRA in Boavista (Porto).
In the surroundings of Porto you can eat to a very good Francesinha, you just need to know where.
