You have no idea how close you were to an actual American party drink with that "Apple of My Cherry Eye" thing. But you would have to back in American history to about 1810 to 1850 and to the Chesapeake Bay area. It was called "Cherry Bounce". It was, basically homemade cherry brandy and Maryland rye whiskey served in a punch bowl and dispensed with a ladel.
I know cherry bounce as a northern Wisconsin thing where you fill a large jar with local cherries during cherry season, top it with brandy and seal it up and wait until winter to drink it.
@@Ajb259 It probably worked it's way out there when we started to realize how important the Great Lakes region was to become. It took the battles on the Lakes during the War of 1812 to learn that lesson.

Simple solution for the 4th of July shot: add 50/50 vodka and blue curaçao. The problem is your peach schnapps and blue curaçao have the same or very similar specific gravities... To make a liquid heavier, add sugar. To make a liquid lighter, add vodka. You don't have to do both and since the schnapps is sweet enough, do the curaçao.
In northern USA we have another 4th of July shot... Smirnoff red white and berry in a tall shot glass half and half with sprite. You slam it on the table (covered with one hand so it doesn't spill everywhere, but your hand gets sticky so have a washcloth nearby) and then shoot it down it one big gulp, it tastes like a bomb pop popsicle.. hense why we call it a bomb shot! To be truthful it's good with any kind of vodka or rum. Amd when you mix it with sprite the effervescence increases the effectiveness of the liquor and you can get a buzz with a lot less.
