Hey bro, I just wanted to say thanks for making these videos. Awesome breakdown of EVERYTHING. They are older bikes so to find anything worth watching about them is few and far between. I should def try to find a shop manual for mine but till then your videos will work so thanks again
i did the job about 4 years ago, but I didn't have to remove the chain tensioner or remove the cam shaft entirely off. I used magnet tool to pull out the shims and replace them one by one as I turn the alternator bolt counter clockwise.
That is impossible with shim under bucket, which is what I am showing. You had shim over bucket. For under the whole bucket must come out to access the shim.
Cool. I have a 1996 YZF600 RH with 32K miles on it. When do these bikes need a valve adjustment (mileage wise). Is it common for the valves to go out of adjustment?
you could only do that if you ALREADY knew the pads you have under your buckets from a previous measurement. each valve clearance will likely be different, even from factory. they did NOT put all one size in it form new. you have to look at whats there, measure your clearance do the math and find either a thinner or thicker shim to replace it with to bring the gap back in spec. BUT after you know all you shim numbers and keep them some place safe. the NEXT adjustment will just be to measure. if one is out of spec look at your previous chart and know what is in there. order the correct one and swap it.

i would recommend chalk to mark the cam sprockets to the cam chain before removing. It would help when you put them back
Bro. So awesome. Thank you!
best fzr 600 ever bro
Great Video, great narrative. Many thanks.
I'm watching this video again to do my 89 fzr 600 valve. lol
Really, really useful video, many thanks!
I swore I would never buy another bike that needed shims but lo and behold I have failed and I own one of these, LOL
So did I understand that the 1st ever valve adjust on this bike was done at 42k miles and no adjustment was done before this?
cam shaft holder bolts torque is 7.2 foot lbs comes out to be 86.4 in lbs
Im just wondering can i replace the camchain tensioner without opening up engine or messing up the timing?? Please advise. 98 yzf thundercat btw
Yes you can do that
do you have the spec for intake and exhaust for 1989 fzr 600 bro? Thanks.
I do not have those specs, sorry
found my repair manual for exhaust: 0.21 to 0.30 mm and intake 0.11-0.20 mm for 1989 to 1993
20k. But they seem to hold up well

27:08 "And then I finger them in real...finger tight.." hahahahah sure you do :D
man I need help with cam install. how did you get it
can you not just install new shims that you know are to spec instead of having to measure them all???
