Steven Segal. It is hard to look like a legitimate Action/Martial Arts Star when you look like you are a doughnut away from being a live action Homer Simpson.
Agreed. The equalizer and john wick series are the only movies on parr with the action flicks of the 80's and 90's! It was a good time to be a young adult. We went out to theaters, the lake, keg parties and fraternized the old fashioned way...face to face. My heart breaks for most of the young people today who are looking into a screen to socialize rather than in person. It's a crying shame. When is the last time you saw young people go bowling or to the skating rink? If there are any left that is? The 80's and 90's were not only great but also the economy was booming and everyone could get a piece of the "American Dream". Now, the Oligarchy wants everyone to own nothing, rent everything and be happy about it. Crazy ain't it? In 1972 thirty percent of the wealth of the U.S. was owned by the People. 30%! Today 99% of the tangible wealth, land corporations, stocks, bonds, and all is owned by 1% of the population, and they're not nice folks...to put it lightly. I'm glad you and i got to see the " Great America" of which the people now yearn for. God bless you man. C. Class of 1986.
You got me beat by a few years I always look back 10 to 20 years before my decade of living through for the ones I considered good. There are the occasional ones popping up nowadays but their fewer and further between
I'm a fan of both Van Damme and Seagal; but a few years back, I had a bit part in a Van Damme movie, and was struck by what a nice personable guy he was. A buddy of mine and myself were basically nobody's on set; but you'd never have known that by the respectful and even gracious way we were treated by Van Damme. I was already a big fan of the characters that Van Damme played; but after that movie, I became a big fan of Van Damme, the person.
Thats pretty cool man I wish I could meet the man. I watched something like a documentary about Van Damme and it astonished me. There are not that many celebrities that are truly good human beings, but Van Damme is one of them. Van Damme and Seagal are nothing alike. Seagal is a real POS.
seagal, ...👍👁⚜💯 HE IS NO HERO OR MASTER OF MARTIAL ARTS, I WONDER WHO GIVES HIM 7 DAYS, AS VAN DAMME SAYS! "He cant life his leg. His fighting style is waving his hands, like a woman defending herself from a bully. I don't watch his movies, the man is a coward, he can't stand blows - defeats. The hero must be ready to receive and deliver blows. It is a utopia that a woman/🤣Seagal who flails her arms can defeat any martial arts master!
Actually, I heard Seagal was asked but there was some kind of studio interference. That being said, apart from those directly involved, who knows? It could be just spin from Seagal's camp that he was being considered.
Stallone was barely in the 4th , but Seagal has said "He didn't like a lot of the people who participated in those movies" maybe Van Damme and Norris ? Later it has been verified that dispute between Seagal and Van Damme was the main reason why he could not appear in movie, The Expendables, even if Van Damme is not in the movie , he opted out as did Jackie Chan when its not really his type movie .
I was a teen in the 90s. All Seagal’s 90s movies, especially the first 4 or so, were fire! Back in the day he made his own unique style of action movies that were gritty, violent, and lots of fun. I still enjoy them. In the early 2000s things went off the rails.
I'm such a Van Damme fanboy. I met him in San Francisco 15 years ago at Planet Hollywood. What a nice guy. He did the famous spin kick for us, took pictures, and chatted with us. He was soft-spoken and kind.
It seems that Van Damme would be exactly the way you described him, a kind, nice and easy to get along with, he seems like that kind of person, as for who would win segal or Van Damme, I don't know but I know that Van Damme is a much better person by heart
Thanks for sharing this. Another person commented about meeting Van Damme as an extra on a movie set and described how kind Van Damme was to him and his friend. Very glad to learn others have had similar experiences with Van Damme being so kind and down to earth.
I seen a interview with michael jai white. He was a extra in universal soldier. He said how great van damme was and that van damme evwn gave him his coat cos it was raining.
@@konnorj6442 Everybody knows that if Seagal took the Garfield franchise it was going to get ugly. He might not be able to walk away from that one, he would have to run.
I had the honor to meet JCVD years ago in California I was walking out of the Dojo. I was stuck in place when he was walking up. I just looked and him he smiled and said hi.. I said I know who you are and is the reason I'm even here. He smiled He was one of the most chill person I've met. He was very nice and humble. I didn't even ask he asked me if I wanted to take a picture he saw my camera bag. I still have the picture on my mantel til this day. I almost left my camera home, Luckily I had my camera cell phones weren't really a thing yet.
Steven Seagull had a cell phone when he worked at the CIA during Operation Deep Fried Big Mac back in the 50's when he was 16 after he had just returned from being in Japan for 21 years. Just most people don't know it.
In the 1970s I studied Judo and later Aikido. My Aikido sensei was a Colonel in the Thai army. He came to the U.S. to improve his English language skills. He taught the martial arts in the Thai military academy in Bangkok. He was also highly skilled in Muay Thai, Judo and Karate. His advice was to not depend on one form/style of fighting. In the early 1990s, I also met Frank Dux in a bodybuilding gym which also had a martial arts wing in the building. From my experience, I would say that the more styles of fighting you knew and could spontaneously incorporate, the better your chances of winning in a head-to-head fight.
About six years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Jean Claude. He was a lovely bloke who was happy to sign autographs and take photos with everyone. He was also in fantastic physical condition, which for an older guy is very hard to maintain, so you can imagine the work he puts in. So, if it came to a real fight, JC would run rings around him.
I really enjoy watchin JC movies and it's good to hear how he was pleasant with everyone. But, as far as your opinion of a real fight between the two of them, I'm afraid JC would be flat on the ground in a matter of seconds. I have sudied with Segal and believe me, he is the real deal. I have also studied with his top student and he cannot stop talking about how wonderful he is. There is one instance that I personally know about where Segal was putting on a seminar where 3 Japanese Black Belt challenged him all at the same time. Within seconds, all 3 were unconscious. Please study your facts before you speak.
Seagal ran at a Stallone party. Van Dam offered a friendly challenge and Seagal left. He then went to a bar when Van Damme followed him Seagal fled again. What a shock. This story was told by Stallone not verbatim
@@tired7140 Seagal's Terry Tussey custom 1911 .45s, Lynn C. The guy who was booted from Schwarzenegger's Predator in 1987 because the alien costume was "too hot" and starring with former Navy SEAL Jesse Ventura and U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran Richard Chaves was "too much" for his French fries......
@@JohnDoeEagle1 actually the complaint was the suit was too heavy and he was concerned he was going to hurt himself in it. Consequently the individual they hired after JCVD performed a scene where he jumped off a log and proceeded to break his leg doing so. Learn your movie history. After this the suit was changed.
@@STIPanda Doesn't matter when comparing JCVD to former U.S. Navy SEAL Jesse Ventura and U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran Richard Chaves. He's weak sauce and an "actor" who couldn't "hack it".
I will forever be a JCVD fan. The man has a legitimate respect for the martial arts, and has a legitimate background as a martial artist and competitor. Plus, in my opinion, he can really act! JCVD the film showed us all his range as an actor for sure... his real life redemption arc is inspiring. Plus just compare JCVDs current physique to Seagals and you have your answer as to which one is the real deal. Overall JCVD is truly a legend.
Steven Seagal movies are sped up to make him look faster than he actually is. Jean-Claude Van Damme movies are slowed down so you can see whats going on.
The difference between working with Segal and Van Damme on set, Van Damme is the kindest, most respectful person on the set. Segal demands you are fired if you look him in the eyes... Also, Van Damme never got choked out by a 70 year old...
nor did Van Dam purposely hurt the stunt guys. thats when that 70yo stunt master went up to seagull and choked him out crapping his pants, while trying to hit him in the groin. lmao
Norris used to frequent a private business that I did. Had the chance to talk with him one on one on several occasions. Guys like Norris and Van Damme are a critical part of martial arts/fighting; humble, willing to help, and never too high to help someone up. If he has a positive opinion of Van Damme, I trust his judgement based on those conversations. FYI, Chuck never seemed to get over Bruce Lee’s death. How he talks about him is truly amazing, and it was clear he as in awe of him. The loss of these individuals is really a huge loss to the sport and the camaraderie that makes the sport so great. I could hear it in his voice. This hero, iron man of martial arts, showing vulnerability and he barely knew me. Will people feel the same about Seagal? Maybe…
Ultimately it does not matter who would win the fight. Van Damme's a better actor and his movies are better. HIs work in JCVD is outstanding. That's all the winning he needs to do. That being said, I do like Seagal's early movies.
@@ExplisitHipHop I saw all of Seagal's early movies and enjoyed them. That said, I've only watched two of them more than once and those only 2 or 3 times. There are several JCVD movies I watch pretty often.
Yeah his early movies were good because they were fresh and new. But after that they were basically all just clones that got progressively worse. A few youtube channels rip them to shreds over how truly awful they are.
The first time I heard that monologue in JCVD, I was completely flooded by it. The way that monologue hit, seeing the person and not the actor, was powerful. I had a while new respect for him. Plus, Van-Damm had the better movies
Little known fact about Segal; he is a huge firearms enthusiast. Several of his films during the 90s featured guns from Segal's personal collection. He actually came to my house to purchase a machine gun from my Father. I wanted to be there to meet him, but Segal didn't want anyone else around, not even my Father's kids who were big fans of his at the time. I grew up loving both actors, and appreciated their different and contrasting styles, but his refusal to meet with a young fan always hurt my feelings and caused me to think a little bit less of Segal. As a side note, Stalone also refused to meet me as a kid, but Schwarzenegger was more than happy to visit with me and was a class act.
@@chanellegaga Yeah, because no one ever works behind the scenes on films. They just happen. Sets build themselves, vehicles show up, guns and props materialize on the set as if by magic. The actors just show up and the cameras film them and no one else is involved. Yep, you got me. No one ever gets to meet, befriend, or do business with actors.
my favourite Seagal movie was Executive Decision. Rented the vid when it came out, looked good and a collective groan in the room when he appeared in the opening minutes, followed by cheers when he got killed a few minutes later leaving us to enjoy the rest of the movie 😄
I recall the time I watched this at the local cinema; the audience erupted in cheers when he died at the beginning. The advertising agency had promoted the film as if he were a leading star next to Kurt Russell.
I love all the movies made in the 70's and 80's. The action, at the time, was cutting-edge! But when it came down to who I liked, it was always VanDamme! Plus, he reminded me of how my own dad looked when he was Claude's age. And my dad was my hero. He wasn't perfect, but he was honest to a T. And he was strict. I know because i seemed to catch his belt more often than my sisters. Now, if a VanDamme movie comes on, i dont care how many times I seen it, I'll watch it again and again. His abilities were surprising and astonishing.
I like the bit about Chuck and Van Dam, I never knew that the up and coming star worked with seasoned vet Chuck. Met him at a competition when I was young, he used to attend them all the time, and he was a very humble and pleasant individual person to talk to. Me, being young was star struck. While not the greatest actor by any means, a great martial artist. I've heard that Van Dam was also well recognized for competition as well before moving to acting. It's cool to hear he was Chuck's sparing partner for a time and work out partner. I have heard that Chuck used to love to work out with and spar with others often, some times for competition, other times to learn. He is a passionate man. Still humble and still active at his age just expresses and proves how important martial arts is to your inner self, mind and body, and to your physical body. The best part, was the footage of Chuck kicking the pads that Jean is holding. Without even putting all he had into the kick, you can see the power behind them. And this is after his retirement from competition and full time commitment to martial arts, and putting more time into acting. Footage of his professional fights are awesome. Thanks for the video.
I'm very glad that you shared your personal experience of talking with Chuck and seeing him at a competition. One of my favorites Chuck Norris facts is . . . Chuck Norris speaks in 4th person. Another favorite is: Chuck Norris can divide by zero. Last one: Chuck Norris won a staring contest with the sun. The sun went blind.
I liked both growing up until the internet and interviews started happening. When i heard that Seagal doesn't hold back on the stunt guys, that's when I lost respect. Hurting the guys who are doing their best to make you look good isn't exactly the path to take. Even Michael Jai White has a story about working with Seagal and almost got into it with him.
Hmmm, I thought that was because of his lack of ability in acting like he's walking up stairs. Atleast he could fake the stairs to make it look realistic, unlike his ability to act like he knows how to fight. His only martial art ability is Rectal Cranium Inversion Syndrome. Anyone who tells everyone he's a martial artist, talks shite about true martial artists, and never really shows any actual skill in it, turning down the chance to prove himself as a martial artist by fighting with a proven martial artist, is nothing but a fraud, which is the same way I felt the first Seagal movie I paid to see in a theatre in my teens, I felt like I was worked over by a fraudster and the only thing that hurt was my pocket that $10.00 was all my allowance for the week. After that, I'd watch his attempt at acting and martial artist when I had a relationship breakup, knowing that watching a Seagall movie would get me out of the slump because if he could make millions being a fraud at everything, then I had a hell of a chance I would find true love.
@@alexchen5811 Not quite. The EU did not exist in 1978, when Van Damme won the European Karate Championship. The EU actually did not exist before 2007 (but of course there were predecessor organisations, in 1978 it was EEC).
Who is the best is not important amongst the greats. Being great you know what you know and you’re aware of what you don’t know. Wake up. Life is not about competing with others. It’s about competing with yourself and becoming the best, you can be.
According to a guy named Cohen, who wrote an article, in the 80s; he claimed that the biggest secret in Education was that competition(excluding self- competition) is detrimental, for all endeavors & for any degree of competition, for achievement! This crazy assertion has, he claimed, stood the test of peer reviewed, dbl. blind studies! After reading his article, On Competition, I recall having seen his references & admitting that the facts backed up said claims. To this day, I can’t intellectually dispute said claims, but I’ve always continued to engage in competitive activities, anyways, out of habit & enjoyment. I guess, subconsciously, I have not believed what I consciously learned! It puzzles me & disappoints me, somewhat, that I haven’t been able to “wrap my mind around” a concept I know to be truthful/correct. Apparently, a large survey was given to college educated adults, asking the question whether competition was healthy or to be taught as a desired activity. Most people answered that “some” competition was desirable. That goes against the scientific evidence, that no competition is best! Cooperation(sincere ) with others, while allowing for cooperative conflict within a working group, beats competition, or beats working alone. The most extreme degree of competition is boxing, tennis, or chess, for ex. One person makes the other person lose. A lesser degree of competition would be running a race, where one person doesn’t make the other person lose.Or two persons competes for a job, by taking a written test. The winner doesn’t make the other lose. It is claimed that competition leaves the winner euphoric, while the loser, feeling dejected & , possibly, humiliated. Anxiety before the competition detracts from the participants focusing on the subject of the competition, which negatively affects achievement, is the rationale. When tested against all endeavors in life, supposedly, competition as a methodology, loses to cooperative conflict. Hey, I’m just the messenger. I am, admittedly, and somewhat (at the level of an annoyance) shamefully, hypocritical. I still engage in mental & physical competition with others.
I don't know why but I never realized Seagal was 8 years older than Van Damme. But the best way to explain the difference between them is Seagal tried to make enemies while Van Damme tried to make friends.
I’ve been a Van Damme fan since I was a kid. I grew up with his movies. I can’t even express my excitement when came out in newer movies, even if he played a villain. He’s always been in my top five martial arts performers in movies. Seagal wasn’t really anything I watched. I maybe saw two movies of his, one where he was a Navy Seal Cook (or something) and the other was on an oil rig (I think). The first is Under Siege, most likely, and I don’t know the name of the second one. I’ve seen almost all of Van Damme’s movies. I say that because I may have (maybe) missed one or two of them. He’s a gold standard for martial arts action movies, for sure.
Steven is still a complete phony with the way he keeps trying to chase the past. Jean has come to terms with his past and discusses it with people so they don't make the same mistakes he did.
@@irvinmorales1409 Seagal never claimed that he taught Silva how to kick. He taught him how to SET UP the kick so that he could get that kick to land effectively. He also trained him on methods that improved his kicks Attributes: Greater Speed, Accuracy, and Power. I always enjoy the clueless MMA fanboys. Their Ignorance, and ego based biases, are boundlessly absurd
Phony? lol. The man has Many Decades of hardcore training (far more training, than most people even know about). Every technique he has learned... He has multi thousands of man-hours, on each of them. Hes attained Masterclass level of output... and even the lightest of Taps, cause severe pain and or injuries (as was proven, when he lightly Tapped Anderson Silva in the arm/shoulder, and Silva was wincing and rubbing the area, for several minutes after the hit). Seagal also has very well conditioned fists, which he showed off recently.. when Jesse Enkamp visited him for a demo + conversation. Van Damn has likely never hit anything with his bare fist, in his entire life. He was a sport fighter, training on soft bags, with mittens on. Trust me, there is a Huge difference. Ive trained on wall mounted Sandbags (with barefists)... which is how I know the differences. Seagal used the Makiwara boards... which is similar to the sandbag training. Seagal may be a raving narcissist.. but he definitely is no fraud, when it comes to the arts.
Back in the early '70s, my first "kick hero" was a Japanese guy named, Shoji Karada (aka. Yasuaki Kurata). He had a mean kick. Then came "No Retreat No Surrender" with JCVD as the villain with his own wicked kick, and I told myself, "Now, this is the real deal!". I was impressed with this guy. But of course, Bruce Lee, although deceased by then, was still the undisputed master in everyone's mind. Many great martial artists came and went over the years, with their lives and career ups and downs. Many are still around, but new actors and their techniques have emerged, in their own particular arts and disciplines, and many others still climbing the ladder. I'm no Sensei nor a Shifu, I'm just an avid spectator who likes action films. And I definitely enjoy this video essay. Thank you and keep 'em coming, OP.
I used to love Segal's fighting style and his persona in his earliest movies but then he got all gangster. It's like Van Damme went in the opposite direction from being a slightly shallow actor with an amazingly flexible body to an actor of substance who had more than just his body and technique. I'm glad to read what a warm and humble guy he is. Nice video.
I think Steven Seagal's biggest advantage is his size. The man is a giant and a bully. He is known for hitting stuntman and other actors unnecessarily hard, except in the case of Jai White. Steven the bully, didn't want to upset a guy who didn't have to take his crap for a paycheck. I'm confident stating at any point in their lives, JCVD would win.
I think the reason why he actually hits actors is because he didn't go to actors slap classes that day because he was writing his thesis on How To Act For Film.
A fan of both of these guys back in the 90s growing up, and kept hearing the rumor Steven is this one who turned down the smoke at Sly's party, according to the latter back in 1997. Also, hear the rumor of Jean-Claude turning down smoke with Don The Dragon Wilson in 1994, who is another one of my favorites. Love how these stories continue to live on, as well as their legacies.
You can tell a lot a person by seeing their progression throughout the years. To evolve, one must be willing to be open minded to new ideas/environments and adapt. You can see the significant positive change (overall) in JCVD films from Double Impact to now. He's also worked with many action stats such as Scott Adkins, Dolph Lundren, and Michael Jai White. All Steven Segall films seem like a washed up version of "Above The Law". It's also horrible to see an out of shape man always claiming to be a top notch CIA operative or some weird monk his recent films.
Why, there are so many top notch overweight and out of shape CIA operative roles he could play in a film, I mean, don't kick a man down when his dog is dragging him behind by his leash, have a heart man!!!
@@sirdrakeythank you for saying these two titles! I was racking my brain trying to think of the title "double impact". Another person commented how they worked on the movie Maximus Risk and how JCVD plays twin brothers. I'm thinking "am I having a Mandela effect or was there a different movie with 'double' in the title that he was in as well?!" Why so many twins action movies around the 90s!? 🤣
I met Steven Seagal once and was able to talk with him. Seagal is one of those people who is reserved and also patient with people when they truly get to know him. I have never met Jean-Claude Van Damme but from what I had found out about him he seems to be a pretty decent man as well as a good family man just like Steven Seagal is. When it comes to fighting Van Damme seems to want to rush into a fight where Steven Seagal he is more reserved about fighting and only uses fighting as the last result which is a true testament of his skills.
@@skosh6 Why? Seagals' skills far outway Van Dammes'. I think if you check into it, you might find that Segal has mastered several martial arts forms whereas Van Damme is very good at one form.
What a great story teller. Great video. Been a fan of both since I was young. Seagal, not so much anymore but Jean-Claude is and always will be amazing.

Seagal being born near me you would think i would be in favor of him, but he is 10 years older than VanDamme and would probably have a heart attack if he got in the ring with him. I have one leg and I could easily out manuver Seagal in the ring
I don’t know how in the world I got caught up in watching a video about these two for 30 minutes. Nonetheless, I wanted to say that I truly enjoyed listening to you speak. You speak very eloquently with a fine choice for words. Your verbal, as well as bodily expressions created a magnetism for attention. Thank you
Van Damme's honesty goes a long way with me. And he was never afraid to show his real side of him self. Steven seems to be full of him self. And none of it adds up.
If the best defense is a good offense, it's obvious who would win. Both fighters know this to be true. That's why the episode at Stallone's party turned out the way it did.
Although I don't watch every video you put out, when I do see one that interests me and watch it, I am always blown away with how well you make these. Its not all just recycled information and that's refreshing. Your calm tone mixed with research and deep knowledge of the topics makes this a cozy place to enjoy some Seagull smack talk lol Cheers!
Assuming Seagal has ever had a street fight like he claims, Van Damme's biggest problem might be that he trained completitively. Comptetitive fighters sometimes expect the rules of the ring to apply to the streets and they don't. They don't engage guys when they fall to the ground because they're waiting for a count or the bell, and they don't take cheap shots. JCVD did take a run at Jason David Franks but it didn't go that well for him; Franks put Van Damme in a headlock before they were separated. That said, I just don't have any faith that Seagal is anything like the person or martial artist he portrays himself as. And I'd go with the real, trained fighter, Van Damme, over the pretender every time. Whether Seagal is pretending about his Aikido credentials, or just his real world fighting experience, doesn't matter. JCVD would have the edge there more than likely.
I mean no disrespect but having spent 20+ years in Japanese style karate, our instructors (Grandmaster Takayuki Kubota) always differentiated between what happens in the ring and what happens in the street. While I have seen some lower level belts be surprised when encountering a savvy street fighter, I never saw any of our 3rd Dan or higher misunderstand the difference between inside and outside the dojo. Kubota taught us (Shodan and up) kill techniques, and he taught the Los Angeles Police Department kill techniques -- which got them in a heap of trouble back in the late 70's. We were effectively trained to understand the ramifications of using these skills. The whole point to our training was to avoid fighting until our back was up against the wall, and then ending the fight as quickly as possible.
William you are right. After spending 13 months in Korea learning Tae Kwon Do, I quickly learned 60% of my technique was not allowed in US tournaments. It took some serious adjustment on my part. I leaned how to street fight in Korea. In order to have any chance against a wrestler, Hapkido, or serious Aikido opponent, you have to keep both feet on the ground. Even then the second you are down it is over.
How anyone in this modern age of UFC etc can believe Seagal was legit is beyond me 😅, he was just one of the MANY old school martial arts cult leader con men types that were rampant in the US back then. I love most of the old Seagal movies, however I'm also fully aware that the man was/is a lunatic.
I don't see how any one can still think that is a legitimate argument. UFC is a sport. It has rules. Those rules make some styles more effective than others. It does not, however, convey any meaning beyond how effective the style is when it is used in the UFC. Does boxing prove mma isn't legit? You have world class MMA fighters getting wrecked in boxing. So, by your logic, MMA is run by a bunch of cult leaders that can't hack it in the ring. Joe Rogan even pointed out Seagal was a legitimately good martial artist within his specific style. Do I think Seagal could actually win a street fight against anyone with training? No. Dude would have a heart attack before any punches were thrown. Is Aikido legit in terms of fighting? Depends on the fighter, the rules, and how they are using Aikido. There are styles that people thought would never work in the UFC. Karate and taekwondo. Then a fighter with a lot of talent and skill showed up to prove everyone wrong.
@@taoofjester4113 I'm old enough to own the original UFC VHS tapes as well as tapes from all the other similar tournaments that were being held around that time as I was obsessed with finding out what was & wasn't legit. Pretty much all of the styles were pitted against each other back then & a lot of them turned out to be fairly crap against an opponent who could actually fight.
I used to Just really love both these men. Over time Van Dame has had his struggles, but not once did he come acoss as better than anyone else. Where as physically Stevan Segal was extremly attractive to me, his soul is dark and ugly and he has no honor. Van Dame isn't all good, but he owns it regardless of what it is, and the way he refuses to be tempred into slinging catty remarks or talk Segal down and he doesn't, where as Sagal hurts himself attacking Van Dame... It's obvious who the better man is, and it's not Segal...
I wouldn't say he has no honor. But I would agree there is a darkness in him, manifest in his narcissistic issues. Those are HIS weaknesses and foibles, but they got him in real trouble. In his older years, did he change? I don't know.
Van Damme would beat the brakes off of Seagal! Love your work GT, your recounts of these legendary icons is in depth, complete, and accurate. They will be entered into history regarded for being just as legendary as those you cover, except of coarse for Seagal, LOL!
My compliments to you on your even handedness in delivering this video. Seagal is a difficult personality, I’ve worked w him. In regards to his popularity he got in his own way, he chose the path that was not respectful which goes against his purpurted learning in the arts. He is a very good blues guitarist.
Van Damme had this sort of Hollywood dream. Not unlike Arnold who also took his success in real world physical competition and turned it into a big time acting career. These guys wanted to act and be famous and whatever else comes along with that. They, like actors do, have that separation between their real selves and the characters they play on the big screen. This separation doesn't appear to exist for Seagal. In fact...I'd say Seagal would look down on his movie characters as only being a small fraction of the person he is in real life. Edit: does anyone else take a nice deep breath at the end of these videos when we're reminded to breath?
That wouldn't take much for Van Damme to do, he would just have to look into Seagal's eyes, and Seagal's makeup department, (for his hairpiece) and cover up makeup, would be running in with Kleenex to dry his tears.
@@fongxiong6372 Hahahahaha Not a chance. I'm near completely bald, I know an area rug when I see an area rug, and Seagal sports a whole living room carpet on his head

JCVD is the btter human being, humble, funny and ab le to accept his own shortcomings - Seagal is a narcissistic bully that has always used his size to dominate those around him. He has good skills, but the speed and mixed abilities of JCVD would give him the edge - and lets not forget, SS is mentally challenged, the proof of that is his residence in Moscow with Putin as his mate---
Sly and Arnold were friends and training buddies with one of my favorite Italian bodybuilder, boxer, dietitian, and chiropractor Sly didn't meet him until the movie Rambo 2 but Arnold knew him immediately
The fact is Van Damme is in a much better shape. Segal has spent his time as a Louisiana Cop Ride-along. Should they fight? No. Would I take a bet? Yes, the healthy one.
I believe Steven did crap his pants, he says to ask that one stunt man. Gene didn't deny it, he said, sometimes if someone ate a big dinner it happens sometimes, or something like that. I like to think it happened 🤣😂
No fan of Seagal at all . But it's a made up story . Steven Lambert and Conrad Palmisano who were both there that day , have both said it never happened . Lambert saw it first hand and Palmisano was notified not long after the confrontation happened as he was on set . All that happened was Lebell knocked Seagal to the ground , after Seagal groin striked him in what was suppose to be a friendly demonstration . Bodyguards then were moving in to prevent anything further from happening . Nobody was choked out or crapped in their pants .
Please Goldenbell, do a story on Earnest Hart from St Louis. He’s a really cool guy and has won a few kickboxing championships. Look into him and I think you’ll like what you find.

I'm gonna say something positive right now about Steven, "He should be in Genesis book of records for turning down the most fights!"
Steven Segal. It is hard to look like a legitimate Action/Martial Arts Star when you look like you are a doughnut away from being a live action Homer Simpson.
@RobertGuidry-f3f Segal is so Awsome He can easily gang 10 pounds a year, 5 years from now. He'll be a hundred plus pounds heavier!!!!!
Blood Sport is still one of my favorite movies. At 55 years old, I grew up in the 80's and 90's , the BEST era for movies, in my opinion.
Indeed. Blood Sport is special. Thole early Seagal movies were awesome too.
Yeaa I'm a 90's and still love and remember those memorable movies💯🔥
Total Recall, that movie is still amazing

The fact that Seagal apparently wasn't asked to join in the fun in Stallone's "Expendables" franchise says a lot about how his peers see him..
Actually, I heard Seagal was asked but there was some kind of studio interference. That being said, apart from those directly involved, who knows? It could be just spin from Seagal's camp that he was being considered.
Stallone said he denied the role
Stallone was barely in the 4th , but Seagal has said "He didn't like a lot of the people who participated in those movies" maybe Van Damme and Norris ?
Later it has been verified that dispute between Seagal and Van Damme was the main reason why he could not appear in movie, The Expendables, even if Van Damme is not in the movie , he opted out as did Jackie Chan when its not really his type movie .
Maybe Seagal wanted to do all his acting sitting like in his latest movies

GSP always reminded me of Van Damme.

Hence, MMA
That was basically Bruce Lee’s mantra. you must be like Water and adapt and mold the surface you are up against.
Another good reason not to stick to 1 style is, some styles just suit you better than others, along with the sensei that's teaching you.

Segal's type of martial arts wouldn't go very far in a real fight with a MMA fighter at all. And with Van Damme Steven would get destroyed.

Maybe…
Hell of a video! So impressed! So well written and well narrated! Not to mention the video clips and editing.
Ultimately it does not matter who would win the fight. Van Damme's a better actor and his movies are better. HIs work in JCVD is outstanding. That's all the winning he needs to do. That being said, I do like Seagal's early movies.

What an introspective and highly intuitive observation on these two men. Respect for the homework and thought you put into this.
Chuck norris was world champion six times. In real fight Chuck would have beat anybody. ❤
Chuck got his start with Bruce Lee so JCVD is kind of like the grandson of Bruce.
I grew up watching all these guys and Van Damme always stood out for being genuine...and he's awesome. Stay legendary Van Damme!
Seagull needs a stunt double walking up stairs, what more needs to be said about his physical attributes?
Lmao
And to walk down them.
He doing sumo next 😂
"Hi I'm Steven Seagull, my next movie will also be produced Direct To Trash."
"Blood Sport" Love it! Both are great in their films, but I would want Van Damme to have my back in real life.

But the best way to explain the difference between them is Seagal tried to make enemies while Van Damme

And the women who were bullied by Steven Seagal.
John Leguizamo said the same thing.
That's exactly why he went to Japan. He learned everyone is much smaller than he is.
He's like Kramer on that Seinfeld episode with the Karate Class.
Thanks for this. I have liked both the actors, but I have always liked Mr. Jean-Claude Van Damme.
It's also horrible to see an out of shape man always claiming to be a top notch CIA operative or some weird monk his recent films.
double team with dennis rodman was better
All. Steven Segal movies are basically the same
Why, there are so many top notch overweight and out of shape CIA operative roles he could play in a film, I mean, don't kick a man down when his dog is dragging him behind by his leash, have a heart man!!!
Van damme ❤is a nice guy actor I love him I hate seagal van damme would have killed seagal in a fight seagal in a hospital
Steven Seagal lied about meeting Bruce Lee so, what intrigued me is if jean-claude van Damme and Jackie Chan could be in one movie
I heard Bruce Lee kicked his butt!!
Watch Double Impact and Twin Dragons same movie
@@sirdrakeythank you for saying these two titles! I was racking my brain trying to think of the title "double impact". Another person commented how they worked on the movie Maximus Risk and how JCVD plays twin brothers. I'm thinking "am I having a Mandela effect or was there a different movie with 'double' in the title that he was in as well?!" Why so many twins action movies around the 90s!? 🤣
The quality of these videos is amazing, I only just found you but enjoying watching at least one of these everyday. Love your approach
I'd be reserved about fighting Van Damme too, if I were Seagal.
@@skosh6 Why? Seagals' skills far outway Van Dammes'. I think if you check into it, you might find that Segal has mastered several martial arts forms whereas Van Damme is very good at one form.
This was an awesome look at two men and their legacies. Thank you for this.
What a great story teller. Great video. Been a fan of both since I was young. Seagal, not so much anymore but Jean-Claude is and always will be amazing.
I met Steven segaul in memphis tn. Once and I'm gonna say in real life he is huuge.and he is very calm cool andcollected.i would say no matter who you are you would not wanna wake this giant.and as an inner calm well collected person myself I would say this man would make a wonder friend.a very super classy person.steven was a real down to earth person
You know someone makes a great video... when you pause your playstation to watch it.
Seagal being born near me you would think i would be in favor of him, but he is 10 years older than VanDamme and would probably have a heart attack if he got in the ring with him. I have one leg and I could easily out manuver Seagal in the ring
And I would say you could do it with your other leg tied up?
Go for it moyon.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.love to see it.
Seagal is full of himself, and O hate people who are full of themselves.
Seagul is also full of pancakes.

Thank you
Awesome presentation, great vid and I’ll look for more.
This was a GREAT video comparison!
I don't care
I grew up watching these guys movies
Those were real good actors
Absolutely great movies
@@garygruber1452 I don't feel disrespected. You had great teachers. Some are not as well versed in doing both.
😊 I'm is 😅@@garygruber1452
I don't know, I think Seagal totally is the person he portrays to be, A total fake. And it's the only role he plays convincingly and consistently.
Love Van Damme, dude great documentary on this rivalry. This is what us Fans look for. Thank you so much.
Van Damme would beat the brakes off of Seagal! Love your work GT, your recounts of these legendary icons is in depth, complete, and accurate. They will be entered into history regarded for being just as legendary as those you cover, except of coarse for Seagal, LOL!
Steven Seagal:
Come all and join my Buffett
As far as I know, martial arts, is a lot of discipline and your physical is one of the most important things
Amen.
My compliments to you on your even handedness in delivering this video. Seagal is a difficult personality, I’ve worked w him. In regards to his popularity he got in his own way, he chose the path that was not respectful which goes against his purpurted learning in the arts.
He is a very good blues guitarist.
This was put together very well ! Enjoyed the video
What a great video! Was a big fan of both their early movies. Bloodsport is one of my all time favourite movies.
I can't believe I watched more than half of this video
Thanks for supporting my daughter's toy fund 🙂
Van Damme had this sort of Hollywood dream. Not unlike Arnold who also took his success in real world physical competition and turned it into a big time acting career. These guys wanted to act and be famous and whatever else comes along with that. They, like actors do, have that separation between their real selves and the characters they play on the big screen. This separation doesn't appear to exist for Seagal. In fact...I'd say Seagal would look down on his movie characters as only being a small fraction of the person he is in real life.
Edit: does anyone else take a nice deep breath at the end of these videos when we're reminded to breath?
What is Segal fighting? The temptation to eat another 🍩?
Van damme would destroy him
That wouldn't take much for Van Damme to do, he would just have to look into Seagal's eyes, and Seagal's makeup department, (for his hairpiece) and cover up makeup, would be running in with Kleenex to dry his tears.

JCVD is the btter human being, humble, funny and ab le to accept his own shortcomings - Seagal is a narcissistic bully that has always used his size to dominate those around him. Excellent vid! You are a master story teller Sir. Long live Van Damme, Segal is a self absorbed Chump.
That has been completely debunked by people who were there.
