I was prescribed doxycycline and it gave me hyperpigmentation around my mouth and it helped my acne a bit. But after I stopped taking it, I got fungal acne. Now, I just use dandruff shampoo and vaseline after watching your videos on fungal acne and vaseline. It has helped me immensely. Vaseline has calmed my skin down and helped to even my skin out a bit. Dandruff shampoo is helping with the bumps on the forehead and chin. Thank you, Dr. Dray. You are a lifesaver.

Be very careful when using this. Especially follow her advice on not taking it for more than 4 months and using Benzoyl Peroxide along with it. My dermatologist had me taking oral tetracycline, doxycycline, and minocycline + topical clindamycin every single day for 10+ years. And now I just tested positive for 2 different types of gram-negative folliculitis - which basically means that I developed drug-resistant super bugs that I probably have to deal with for the rest of my life.

I was put on Minocycline HCL taking two 100 mg tablets twice a day at 12 hour intervals. The first two weeks were absolutely fine, it was going into week three that i began to develop fullness and sound sensitivity combined with tinnitus in my left ear, and then pulsaitive tinnitus in my right ear. This combined with pressure in the head and blurry vision. I called my Doctor and stopped taking it immediately. I then read up and discovered another side efffect that is not mentioned by many doctors and dermatologists, a condition called Intercranial Hypertension. I was so angry that none of these side effects were ever discussed with me. I was only warned about nausea and dizziness. Be very careful about minocycline, in fact from my experience I would stay away from it entirely. And any doctor who isn't going to fully explain ALL of the possible side effects , is not doing their job.

I was on minocycline and doxy in high school to try to combat my cystic acne, and it never really helped. Couldn’t be in the sun for 20 minutes, even cool days, on Doxy without blistering sunburns, then went to mino. Minocycline made me losing weight almost impossible. I have only lost weight since, with much less activity after i stopped taking them. I was the most physical i have ever been while on minocyline my sophomore and to the end of my junior year, and still gained massive amounts of weight. This is the only prescription besides ibuprofen and miralax i ever took then, I don’t like taking meds if i can help it. So nothing but these acne’s meds were in my system, so this isn’t just justifying situations. How tf could I have lost over 100 pounds, 290+ to 165 now, without any exercise, and with worse eating habits?
Fast forward a couple years later when I got my wisdom teeth pulled out. The dentist specifically asked me if I had taken an oral acne medication. When I said minocycline and doxycycline, he said yup the minocycline would do it. These antibiotics specifically rot your teeth from under your gumline. When they pulled out them, there was a 2 mm black line. So its damn terrifying that i was never once told that this was a possible side effect. Nor the inability to lose weight, like it flat out stopped my metabolism, then it kickstarted a couple months after fullly quitting. Toooooo many coinciding issues, without other possible chemicals present.

Then 15 years ago a dermatologist prescribed minocycline. I had previously been on tetracycline but it had done nothing. Minocycline was truly a miracle for me and I continued on it all these years, taking a pill every second day. Then about six months ago antibiotic resistance kicked in and I am breaking out again at this ridiculous old age. I am debating trying the heavy dosing of B5 as accutane still concerns me.🤦🏻‍♀️

I ended up switching to a lower dose of the antibiotic I had to treat my UTI- I believe it's called Trimethoprim. I was on a half dose of Trimethoprim for 4 months and it cleared my acne completely. I've had to get of it a couple of weeks ago because my urologist who is now monitoring my kidney stones, said it wasn't healthy for me to be on antibiotics for that long because of the increased risk of bacterial resistance and I'd only had the one UTI. So far, my skin has remained clear since coming of Trimethoprim. Trimethoprim is not usually used to treat acne, but it was a good side effect of the medication that it cleared my acne.

At 59 I really didn't think I would have be going through this with my skin but as of today it is much better. sometimes I wonder if it's just from stress, but I did have vertigo and really bad headaches for a while when on the medication. Bought more masks, got new skincare, but my mom insisted I still go to the doctor. The acne was so bad, every time I saw, well, anyone they said, "ouch, that looks painful," and it was! So now I'm on a combo of minocycline and clindamycin, doctor said clindamycin will be used for 3 months, the minocycline will be used for 40 days. How come no one ever suggests what comes after doxycycline and minocycline 3-4 months? 3-4 months is nothing in a lifetime

when using the foam (Zilxi) my derm said to use it in the AM but i read the instructions and both you and them said to use it at night. I like that because it's too oily for me during the day. Now, when do i incorporate any HA serums or moisturizers when using it at night? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!

My dermatologist recommended doxycycline and worked for a couple of years but I developed resistance. Since then I have tried salicylic acid, tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide (throughout the years) and nothing has work🤦🏻‍♀️

The same thing happened for me along with trying minocyclin. The only thing that’s worked for me is spironolactone.. you should look into it!! It’s not an antibiotic it’s actually a blood pressure medication but it’s the only thing that’s worked for me :)
