All lovely choices for svelte figures. Knits tend to show every bump, even with shape wear. For wider hip women, the cut would best be in an a-line cur, but most dresses are straight cut, which is a disadvantage for fuller type figures.
When it's a straight fit dress, I usually size up (if the knit is thick and stretchable, I stick to my usual size: M) and use a belt to prevent the too oversized sack look.
Yes, I can see why #10 is your favorite. It is mine too. I just purchased a sweater dress from Ann Taylor in a dark teal blue. It is a knit turtleneck dress with knit belt. I purchased a regular size instead of a petite so it would be a midi length dress on me. Wow! It is a stunner. Looks very rich. I am going to wear it with belts from my collection. Please show us more knit dresses that could be midi length for petites. This was a fabulous selection of dresses you shared with us. Thank you so much.

I have black boots too and a grey leather walking length coat .
I love sweater dresses, even for days spent cozily at home. All the comfort of a day spent in pyjamas, but infinitely more chic. If I am wearing them with tights, I will layer the dress over an old-fashioned slip to avoid unflattering bunching and clinging.
Do they even make slips any more?
@@selectiveoutrage6617 They are hard to find, but they are available, mainly online. I own a couple of of thrift store finds (one half, one full), an ancient half slip from my teens (tricot nylon is nigh indestructible), a modern microfiber full slip that was a short-lived item at a chain store (a little too short and slinky for my preference, but it works), and one I made myself (a tube of slippery lnit fabric with an elastic waist). I hand wash and mend any small holes and split seams to maintain their longevity.
The last dress is also my favorite. They are all very good ones

I love v-neck sweater dresses as turtleneck is often too warm for most winter days in my hot climate country. Mock neck and crew neck sweater dresses are nice options for warm countries too.

Indeed! By the way, Sezane's Piana dress in 100% merino wool is absolutely gorgeous yet not over-the-top, well done, flattering and the quality of the merino wool is superb. It's as comfortable as wearing a pajamas, but stylish! I think that the purple one will look smashing on you, Marie Anne.

Lovely selection of dresses but I had to smile when I saw you posted a picture of the highland cow, much beloved by Queen Victoria, used instead of a Yak.
My favourite is the dress that was based on a fishermans sweater. I could see myself wearing that.

It will have to get really unusually cold in Southern California to don a sweater dress but they are soooo chic. My favorites are the red one and the last one. The last one I can imagine in an old movie on Ginger Rogers or Marilyn Monroe. Just gorgeous 💗

Beautiful love all the knits but of course the last is "mais le piece de resistance" so so dishy! :-) I love your idea of the dresses with thicker leather belts. I immediately went to EBAY and found 'New With Tag" belt by Ralph Lauren. I have just put the 'Cart before the horse' now I have to shop for my knitted dress, I love the dresses below the knee as I am a tad pass the mini above the knee Hee Hee! Marie - Anne I have said again and again (broken record) I am so happy I found you I have since March 2021 lost 50lbs and searching for a brand new wardrobe. From a size 10 - to a tight 2. Love the Nordstrom’s dress, belt or no belt with beautiful jewelry draws the eye to your face. Like the crew neck, close sleeves and below the knee.
Number 10 is divine! I live in sweater dresses in the winter. I am a tall hourglass, and I wear them with a chic black belt bag and knee high flat riding boots...I am much taller then my husband so higher heels are not in rotation often. Sometimes though...
I just bought my dream sweater dress. It’s by St John knits in black with beautiful 22 kit gold plated buttons on the cuffs and in two rows at the neckline which has a mock turtleneck with a short zipper. It allows you to zip it up for a turtleneck or unzip for a more casual open neckline.
After watching your video, I’m looking for just the right pair of boots. Thanks for all the wonderful ideas.

I have it in green and is a deep lovely color. The feeling of the fabric is fantastique!😌, so soft and cozy due to the material that comes from yaks. I love the versatility of this dress, dress up and down. I love the look with high boots and a wide belt to accentuate the waist, so perfect. Add a necklace and it is a fine piece. I am on my husband's account - This was so helpful. I have been interested in a sweater dress but so many of the styles seem tight or too short. This was great, and I like that you explain how the dress would fit too. I will check some of these out. Thank you for the research and putting this together. : )
I loved the Dark Shiraz and Green dresses however I will say they were all gorgeous. My mum loved the Burgundy, Plum, Purple colours. I do too and Red.
Oooh I love a good sweater dress, so cozy and chic! I think my favorite is that Banana Republic deep green one, I'm obsessing over deep pine green these days. Also really love the first one, the speckled one with shoulder detail and the skinny belt. I do think it looks great with the super skinny belt, but a wide obi would be cool too. I bought a burgundy midi wrap dress, I think I will wear it with either cowboy boots and denim jacket, or suede kneehigh boots and my moto jacket 🤔
I loved the Ralph Lauren because I think it would work with my fuller hips and bottom (Spanx needed of course).
Number 3 looks cozy and with tights, though not sure for this short-waisted apple with long legs. I agree with Anna a slip to keep from bunching.

I love sweater dresses and wear them often in the fall and winter. Unfortunately I can’t wear wool, cashmere, alpaca, etc. I break out in hives. 😢 I have to buy synthetics. 🤷♀️ The choices you presented are lovely but I like the green dress the most. 🥰

Thanks so much for this. I adore knit dresses, but the vast majority of them are made of acrylic, which overheats me, doesn’t breathe, and feels like sandpaper on my skin. I wore knit dresses so much last year and am looking forward to getting one or two more soon. I found some with some waist shape, and fuller skirts, too, which are more flattering for my rectangle shape than the boxy ones.

I love all the dresses, especially the Merlot one! I really want something warm and stylish but I’m allergic to wool and often find cashmere itchy too. :( Are there any alternatives that are made of different materials?
Bonjour, Marie-Anne. The Ralph Lauren (#8) dress is so elegant and flows so well. I will be looking for something similar in non-wool fibres. This video has me thinking about winter dressing. A knit dress would be lovely to wear for Christmas with the family. You look very chic with your black outfit and the pearl bracelet worn over the sleeve. Merci.

I prefer # 2 with the boots. # 3 is similar to a Landsend cotton dress that I have had for eons.
Two years ago I purchased a beautiful wool and cashmere blend dress for winter, I have a couple of them but it just doesn't get cool enough here to wear them, I think I'll just have to wait until I go overseas again in autumn.
Sweater dresses can be a challenge for an hourglass shape, yet, a few of these designs would skim the curves nicely. Dress 7 is my favorite!
Is that four-row, pearl cuff vintage? I recall photos of my aunts taken in the 50's and 60's pairing it with eight button day gloves. You styling it as the statement piece is beautiful.

Just yesterday got my 100% Australian Merino wool dress with turtleneck in dark moss colour. Almost black but not black 👌🏻 Ordered online from Australian fashion brand Cable Melbourne. Fits perfectly, only have to think of accessories and shoes.
I have a quite good eye for colours due my art studies so worked out that dark moss colour matches well with other greens, especially peridot colour and I am going to look for some peridot silver jewelry. Already have peridot stone studs.
I would prefer a bit shorter dress (my sweater dress is mid length) - around knees but it looks nice. I am not very tall woman with my 170cm, but also not small. Average height in my home country Latvia, but in Australia I am classified as tall 😃 With heels I sometimes feel like an Eiffel Tower 🤣
Only I have a problem after my menopause - tummy, which I never had.. It upsets me and I know I have to work on it. Used to be very slim, even skinny in my 30s and early 40s.
The shape actually is very flattering and even helping to hide my tummy but as you said - I need foundation ☺️ Shaping knickers (have to buy) and tights (have already great Levante shaping tights).
One day will be able to afford also cashmere 💗

@@MarieAnneLecoeur Thank you, yes I already watched it. Some tricks and tips I knew (didn't need them years ago when my tummy was flat) but some were very interesting and useful. Especially I liked about scarf which vertically attracts attention. I have a small collection of silk scarfs and love wearing them. Once woman in a department store came to me and asked how did I tied my scarf - so interesting.. I just did it French way - unconsciously by improvising 🤣🤣🤣

They are all good but I prefer the flair hem line for mmyself.
The Ralph Lauren dress with the loose belt, worn with high boots, is straight back to 1970. A great look

I really like and would buy all the dresses you showcased, except one. The VINCE NORDSTROM- MAPLE Wool & Cashmere Sweater Dress is not a style or colour I would wear.
I am delighted to see Ann Taylor as I regularly shop in that store. Occasionally I buy at the Banana Republic but I definitely do not recommend the outlet store for quality.
I would like to recommend Talbot's. They have lovely cotton-blend sweater dresses that work better for the warmer weather of Central Texas. There is a beautiful merino sweater dress I think you may like. It has a wider sleeve with a tapered wrist cuff and Pointelle detailing. The quality of Talbots has been really good and I have some pieces that look new from 15 years ago.

Bonjour Marie-Anne! I guess dress 3 would be best for my body shape, as fitted garments are not flattering for my apple shape. However, wearing a wool dress would be too warm for me, and turtle neck styles are not my favourite. I don't care much for speckled wool; it reminds me of the speckled enamel camping dishes that are popular here! I do think, though, that you look lovely in your turtle neck and I especially like how you are wearing a bracelet on the outside of the sleeve. Tres chic, nest-ce pas?
I liked 7 for the neckline, but not digging the colors it comes in or the price. I like the shape of the Ralph Lauren (8) and the belt it is shown with.
They're all nice but number 10 requires a perfect figure and the extra ruffle keeps it from being timeless

When I saw #8 ... a big Ooooooo escaped my lips... I need to rent a new body to wear it ;^)
And I can wear none of them. All but one have high necklines and the one that doesn’t (#7) is in colors that are wrong for me. Just like most sweater dresses I’ve seen. Aren’t there any sweater dresses or really warm merino or cashmere sweaters that have lower necklines AND winter colors or neutrals?
Can you not create a V via a long pendant necklace or a strategically placed scarf? Perhaps the higher necklines are for warmth in winter?

I am slim but would not wear one of these dresses. Too unforgiving for my lumps, bumps ans flat bottom.

Some lovely designs, for sure. But I am disappointed with your #10. Whereas most of the other styles have simple clean lines that will stand the test of time, are easily accessorized, and are flattering to many body shapes, the last one is fussy, with a lot of distracting details. IMHO the dress can’t seem to figure out what it wants to be. And people are more likely to remember the dress than how you looked in it. Mais à chacune son goût, so we’ll have to agree to disagree. 🙂
