a new investigation by the Center for Public Integrity, Mother Jones and "Reveal" for the first time confirms that the 40 acres notoriously promised to former slaves was actually distributed to hundreds of people … only to be later repossessed.
It is a story about race and history and reparations. But it is also fundamentally about land.
