    There were definitely some 1977 Luke's with the issue of two different sized legs. My original figure, from my youth, had this issue and I remember that it drove me nuts. My parents were against letting me get a second of a figure that I already owned, so I had to live with the lousy legged Luke until, a few years later, a friend of the family, who was a teenager, got one as a gift. He felt he had surpassed the age of playing with toys, so he gave it to me. He had opened it, so it was loose, but was in perfect condition.

      These original Kenner figures seems like they were always hit or miss. That was so cool that you were able to get a second Luke that didn't have the weird legs.

    This video had a true sit down, expression, and emotion to the people who are collectors. I'm a new collector of Star Wars but still have my 1999 Star Wars Episode 1 Darth Maul, Qui gon Jinn, and Obi Wan figures. I started to get serious about collecting 2017. Great video!

    When I was a child I had almost all the figures that came out in the 70s and 80s over time I began to lose them and give them to some nephews who did not take care of them and ended up losing everything, so now that the retro figures came out in 2019 I started collecting them, they bring many memories of my childhood, for me those retro figures are the closest to the original that I have seen through time, obviously it is not the original but it is very well done, to be honest I do recommend it for those who lost in it time their original figures like me or for those who start collecting vintage figures are a very excellent option. Very good video man

    Those 12 inch gentle giant figures are alright as long as the figure is of an alien or robot, the humans just look silly at that scale. I quite fancy the boba fett 12 inch figure. I've got the stormtrooper and Darth Vader which I was pleased with but the Emporers royal guard just blew me away, then again it always was a favourite of mine when I was a kid. 😊👍

      It's like all things that people spend money on -- gotta go into it with a little bit of knowledge of the marketplace, or you might get burned. (Would you buy shares of a stock you knew nothing about?)
      In the case of these vintage reissues, the dead giveaway is the "HASBRO" label on the back of the leg (maybe other places on other figures) -- the 70s-80s originals were NOT made by Hasbro.

  • @jartladder15

    Could it be that they must've not had the original molds but instead just took an impression off of an existing figure?...or whatever the technical terminology for that might be. But the retro figures are definitely less defined in places. Surprising really that they can't really reproduce them accurately.

    • @AllThings80s
      @AllThings80s  4 роки тому

      That sounds like a plausible explanation for the Retro Collection being less defined. It is weird that in this day and age, they can't reproduce an identical version of the classics.

    I like the Jumbo Gentle Giant release the best.
    But I agree that this kind of figure looks a bit "out of proportion" for this scale-shall we say.
    Nonetheless, it's exactly the same mould as the 1977 Kenner one used, but then gigantically blown up in size
    -oversized as you put it. That's why you have to look at it from a distance: from a distance that Jumbo Giant looks simply perfect!

    • @temazros6112

      I have the same problem of limitation of space to display my Jumbo Gentle Giants.
      That's why I only exhibit 6 of these giant ones at a given moment.
      [ But I do change the line‑up from time to time-to bring some variety & life into it and keep things interesting. ]

    • @AllThings80s

      You're right, from a distance, it did look good. I think the "human" figures in the jumbo line look a bit weird, but that's to be expected.

    My understanding has always been that the 1995 set used the original moulds of Kenner for those new castings and the problems you addressed were do to the moulds having had shrunk over the years.
    The Gentle Giant set actually used original figures which they carefully disassembled and then scanned each piece and then enlarged to produce the jumbo figures.
    The new Retro Collection, I believe, are totally new sculptures designed to duplicate the appearance of the originals.
    So with that being said, it's kind of interesting that the figure you felt was the most satisfying of the bunch aside from the original, being the Retro Collection attempt, has probably the least relationship to the original figure of any of them.
    But yes, I'm collecting them too. I sold my collection back in about 1986 for $2.78 a figure loose. Consignment stores felt that was too high to ask, so I ended up selling my entire collection at a garage sale and netted over $1,000.00 on a Saturday afternoon. Not sure if anyone else experienced it, but my figures were either getting sticky, turning yellow or peeling inherent to the materials used to make them, I suppose. I dumped them because I secretly feared they would melt into a great big pile of goo eventually.

    • @AllThings80s
      @AllThings80s  5 років тому

      That makes complete sense about the original moulds shrinking.
      I've heard about the some of the chemicals used in the plastics for the original figures start to break down and results in them seeping to the surface of the figure, causing that sticky feeling.

    • @gfride1
      @gfride1 4 роки тому +1

      Guys, come on! How is a steel molding tool going to shrink? These are not sweaters in the wash. It's been a long time, but if I recall correctly, the original molds were written off, and destroyed, because even though relatively modern times (the 80s), the company apparently did not have the foresight to realize the nostalgic obsession people would surface for these figures. Could also have been that the cost of warehousing the tools -- massive in size, and number -- for a proposed 25-40+ years was considered far too expensive, rekoning that it would just be cheaper to forge new ones if they ever went into production again.
      I collect and sell vintage product from the Marx Toy company, which was in business for over 50 years, until 1980, and interestingly many of their molds were sold off all over the world, and are still being used today! The only thing setting apart a toy soldier from the 1950s from a modern recast, is the type of plastic used; almost impossible to replicate the look and feel of the vintage stuff.

    • @megomego-likemaven4650
      @megomego-likemaven4650 4 роки тому +2

      They definitely did not use the original molds for the 1995 re-issue. They made molds from an original figure, which is why they are smaller than the originals.
