I did the same, with one tower, several years ago and ended up with five pounds of potatoes. It felt good learning how to grow potatoes in Northern Michigan. In 2014, my wife and I went to a market in Standish to purchase three 50 lb. bags of unclassified potatoes. The ones with the lumps and bumps on them. We paid $6.00 for each 50 lb. bag. We peeled, diced and pressure canned them in quart-sized glass Mason jars. Those jars of diced potatoes lasted the two of us for four years.

I love your determination to refuse to let a set back discourage you! The basic idea of towers is sound. Probably NO method of potato growing would've done any better in your area, considering the weather conditions you spoke of. Best of luck and wishes to ya'll!

I planted only about 1/2 lb in 2 planter containers. The little mixture of purple, white, yellow, and red skins. I peeked once and found what looked like more then I planted just below the surface. Not sure what I'll find when I dig down and harvest. If I get 2 lbs I'll be happy. I was my first shot at trying and didn't devote too much space for it. Maybe more next year. 🥔👍

We’re all experiencing a double whammy this year-El Niño and a Grand Solar Minimum. The GSM is supposed to last for about 10 more years, and they cause all kinds of outages, storms, etc.. I think you did pretty good-a 3 to 1 ratio is not bad, and I’d never heard of a potato tower. Good one!

I'm in Texas and we are suffering with 105°-106° weather everyday for a month and a half now, no rain at all. I got about 16 lbs of potatoes (I planted about 25 seed potatoes) so, not so great this year and it was due to early heat (100+) starting in June. My cucumbers did great, no squash, some tomatoes early and now I'm trying to keep my peppers alive. I have shade cloth over everything! Please send us some rain❤ Thank you for the potato tower idea, I'm going to try it for my fall garden!

Jinne, I think your potato harvest looks good. Any increase is better than none.
Our 3 varieties of tomatoes are doing great. (Early Girl, cherry tomatoes and yellow pear tomatoes)
I used shade cloth over all of my raised beds this year to keep them from frying in our 100 degree Utah summer. We have enough tomatoes and green peppers to share a baggie full with 5 of the neighbors. Just enough to eat with a couple of meals. Still waiting to harvest 5 large buckets of potatoes. Keeping my fingers crossed 🤞😊

Aww, well, at least you got some.🥔 Wondering if the Straw rotted a bit, with all that Rain, & may have been the Problem, you know, moldiness. IDK.
I would keep the wire frames, & line them with Black bin liners, or a cardboard tube around the inside edge, & fill it with just compost & start again.
Weather seems to have been a let down for most Gardeners this Year, everywhere.🙁 We keep at it though.👍
TFS HC, take care & keep really busy everyone. ❤🙂🐶

We are right the opposite here. We have had well over 20 days of 100 plus temps with heat indexes up to 110. Today we only got up to 90 so feels like a cold front lol. We have only had 1/8” of rain in about 6 weeks and we are under a water restriction so no unnecessary water usage at all. Supposed to be 91 tomorrow, 93 Wednesday, then 106,107, 104, 103 and 101. Such a hot Summer for us

Got only 1 Yellow Squash so far.everything is Blooming.
    Herbs are Ok.

I planted two potato towers, the first one sizzled in 107° weather in the shade! In less than 24 hours the plants were all black. So I tried again and I put wet Muslim cloth tents over the towers. One night I didn’t stay up as late because it had been 107 for two days and I was exhausted. I paid for my exhaustion, when I went out the next day all the plants were black and very dead😮!

Our garden was hit and miss this year. Green beans were a flop. Got over 10 lbs of pinto beans. Tomatoes mostly were rotting on the vines, canned about 15 jars of beets..Corn got mostly destroyed by wind but green peppers were plentiful. Carrots didn't do anything but we had an abundance of onions...crazy weather! Need to dig our potatoes and sweet potatoes if it ever dries up a little.

I didn’t pant potatoes mostly because it’s just the 3-of us now and we don’t eat many ,,I do have lots in jars and dehydrated so I guess that’s what we will be eating..My whole garden sucked this year also the only thing that did good was the ones in the greenhouse and in containers. I see us growing under cover as the Grand Solar Minimum cycle continues for the next several, several years. I also think we will be limited to what we will be eating except fir what we can grow..

Still have haze. Seeing little of the true blue in the sky. A few of those darn lines too I'm not sure of. I'm trying russets this year. Too many little red and yellow ones. Russets are starting to pop out of the ground and I plant deep. I had volunteers too. About 10 overwintered I missed in grow bags. They may be keepers as seed potatoes. Definitely acclimated to below 0. Not ready to pull yet. Decent rain and temps a little cooler for summer. I may have sweated twice this year. Peas did rot and rabbits got most my beans and planted a pound of seed. Zucchini and cukes have gone crazy. Tomatoes turning red 6 weeks late. Winter squash I hope doesn't get attacked by bugs. New area for them. So garden of pretty good but for a few things.

Good video! One never knows what there going to find in the potato harvest. I do most of mine in buckets and this year since I had an early harvest I've tried to get a second going. I haven't seen anything break the soil yet so I don't have high hopes. Only another 60 ish days to my first frost. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Part of learning is failing in Gardening. Saying what could I have done differently or better. Good luck with the rest of your garden. I had a good not great Zucchini harvest. Tried to plant more but a lot of seeds don't look like they are going to germinate. Just noticed 2 of my Squash plants just broke out of the ground. Trying to get a second harvest out of them as well. Beans are great. Second harvest of Green beans should be ready in about a month. I planted Black eyed peas as an experiment this year and it looks like they are just starting to turn from flowers to buds. Sweet!
