These cars sounds ridiculously well, better than 99% of any modern sport car IMO. Could be in the same league as the F355 sound wise.
if the F355 sounds good, then wait till the Ian Callum's new Evoluto 355 version hits the road. I have a feeling it's going to be amazing. Might be the car the 355 always should have been?
Awesome! Sounds like a large litre dirty old American muscle car but with the high revving Italian v12 sound. What a mixture.
The sound is epic! And that steering wheel and interior is art too!
That sounds like a total beast, love it!
Thank you!
Nice Jag you have there, they really do get better looking every year.
Thank you! I can't agree more.
@@JulianGriggs hey Julian does the shifter have a thing to press in ? Or is that horizontal thing just stationary.
Sounds amazing! Keep up the good work!
Fantastic sound, seriously, what a beautiful car
I don't know what is more impressive, the Jag or those streets. Living in a city sucks.
Odd comment
That’s a great modification on the Jaguar XJS body it’s my favorite too
My heart sank a little when I saw the auto 😂 but damn that sounds so good
Thanks! Manual coming soon!!
these cars mostly came in auto. No manual V12 from factory.
I like what you did with the bumpers - much more elegant than the originals - looking at that exposed front valance, looks very much like the XJ saloon, I would not be surprised if XJ Series 2 front indicator/side lights bolt straight on...
Thanks man! I’ve also removed the front bumper mounting brackets. I’m using the side markers as blinkers! Looks good. You can see what it looks like now in this video

🍻
Damn, sounds awesome man! I would throw a glasspack on the very end though just to smooth it out a tad. Other than that, i definitely like the roudiness!
Great sound! You really really need that manual transmission though. Have you considered a 5 or 6 spped conversion? I have a getrag 265 (using an adaptor plate from Simply Performance) on my V12 but TKO and Tremec options are available I believe. Keep up the good work: I enjoy your videos 😀
Manual trans is in the works. Plan to run Tremec’s new TKX. Will be put in the same time the new engine is put in.
I appreciate the support, means A lot! 🍻
@@JulianGriggs what is the reason for the new angina and what spec is it
5.3 bored to a 5.7. Nothing wrong with the current engine, I just want to try and build a 5.3. Head work, pistons, modified intake manifolds or ITBS, exhaust manifolds, lightened internals and new ECU. Not to mention that it’s a lot easier and nicer to work on the engine out of the car and on a stand. 🍻
@@JulianGriggs which ecu are you planning to install? Did you consider the Mobeck EFI kit?
My 90 XJ s is running like shit …one side of the exhaust is cold…..any tips you have Would be appreciated
Sounds great. Im hoping to add a set of those eventually, not straight piped mind you. I ordered the TKX kit from DrivenMan back in July, plan is to install over winter, fingers crossed it can ship in time.
That sounds like a very angry p 51 mustang, beautiful👍👍👍👍👍
Love that sound!
Such a good sound
Sounds feisty 💪💪
You Sir,have taken a wonderful piece of refined elegance and turn it into an abomination. :( love the way you've made the front look.
Sounds killer 👍
I feel like it would sound insanely good with a mild/medium cam. Would probably need a full boar turbine muffler and/or x-pipe
Cams are for sure happening. I ran an X pipe with the stock manifolds and it sounded pretty good. I am now running a two into one merge set up, however. I think the diameter is too big. Instead of 2 1/2 to 3 inch, I think I’m going to scale down to 2 inch into 2 1/2 inch.
@@JulianGriggs I just picked up an early engine with the flat heads instead of the may heads going to rebuild it and bore it out to 6.0L see what kind of compression ratio I end up with
i read this comment, every time i watch this video, and ive just now realized you said cams and NOT cans
The cams are quite medium to fast road as standard.
@@slowcars8622 you probably already noticed this, but the factory bump from 5.3 to 6.0 was done entirely with stroke, rather than bore. How'd that flat-head V12 turn out?
Such a sick car too. I love it
Cool classic Jag. 💚
A 5 speed gearbox is a must have and better muffler for a clean sound. It's sounding very tinny.
In Harry's Garage is a better XJC V12 with a great sound.
Delightful, love it thanks for sharing
IN FLA WITH 87 XJSC. GONNA ALTER EXAUST..THE ONLY WAY TO FEEL THE POWER OF THE V12..NICE POST
Thanks. I’m going to change the setup again. Sounds too “tin can” like. I’m going to shrink the overall pipe diameter.
Sounds awesome!
Sounds awesome 😎.
Thank you!
Damn its spitting flames like a spitfore 😮
Got that snarling sound up the rev range
i love to have a Jag XJS
Whats funny is that i found 4 of these at my local junk yard and they all have transmission and engine. They are all convertible
Nice XJ-S in a nice color. ;-)
Thank you!
Sounds like a V12 should.
Agreed! thanks for watching!
I have just listened to a straight piped F50. This is, WAY better. It’s like the Devil’s voice 😳
Great job Julien keep them coming. Hows the drone on it? Hopefully you get an alignment, that crooked steering wheel would drive me nuts lol great job what's next?
I appreciate it, Trevor! I need to get the alignment done ASAP… car is currently getting some body work done, then it’s brakes, suspension and wheels. Well still working on the other engine 🍻
Drone is bad… resonator cured that.
Wow. The big cat likes to tach with a proper exhaust.
Love it ❤
Excellent !!
holy f great job
Thank you!
Hey Julian, your car is the only Jaguar XJS that I have seen either pipes coming out the side in front of the rear wheels like mine!
I have to be careful over railway tracks and speed bumps, only have 3.5 inches clearance!
Look at those couches inside!
I really love the engine of the XJS but it needs some deeper sound, nice car for sire
I straight piped mine too, the exhaust ecirs in front of the rear tires. Mone is an 88 XJS
Sounds epic. As you say, just needs a manual transmission as the stock 3 speed auto not the best.
I’ve just picked up a second hand tt extractor system and I’m gonna fit a magna flow x pipe and see how it sounds . Wonder if adding mufflers to the end effects the v12 sound negatively as to fitting any silencers before the end of the pipes ?
I don’t think mufflers are a bad idea. It’ll help with the drone obviously. Vibrant “ultra quiet” resonator would be a good choice in my opinion.
@@JulianGriggs I’ve gone with an x pipe muffler unit and will see
How it is and can add some aftermarket wheels end
Silencers if needed
@@haeloglobal5725 make a video! I’m excited to hear what your car sounds like!
@@JulianGriggs ok wil do
Is it healthy to shift automatic like that?
My gran had one in the same coulors
a drive by at full beans would be good.......
How is the reliability after all the changes you made? Looking to resurrect the one in my moms garage. Very nice car as well, love the cream color even though the one i have is grey.
Mechanically sound! No other car like it on the road. I’d definitely save it! 🍻
@@JulianGriggs Thanks, im definitely trying to save it, just trying to understand the labor and value...Do you feel like you are doing more maintenance than usually to upkeep this car?
Searching for a 1988 Jaguar XJS convertible front windshield. In Connecticut, will travel.
Hmm…the regular exhaust doesn’t sound that bad either if you get the engine above 3000 or so rpm….which basically never happens with the original gearbox.
Next best thing to flying a spitfire
Hello, where did you get that type of air filter? thank you
Made them myself. I cannot remember the diameter pipe I used, but it’s just an elbow with a flange on one end and a filter on the other.
I should post a video of my twin turbo XJS mod some day!
Please do!
I would drop down the pipe size or put some open exhaust right on the end it will keep it from backfiring.
Thanks for watching.
I plan on running smaller diameter exhaust. Currently, it’s 2 1/2 inch to 3 inch. I want to bring it down to 2 inch to 2 1/2 inch, should help it not sound like a tin can at idle/Lower rpm.
@@JulianGriggs I would throw to glass packs on it lol!!!
thinking on putting a resonator to smooth it out as well! thanks for watching man!
One of the reasons I am glad I live in the EU, is that I hate automatics with a passion.
Fantastic sound and car but...must be only manual.
Another level...
Great mate well done . From Uk
Did you use the x pipe in the end ?
No X-pipe on this setup. When I was running the stock manifolds, the X-pipe did change the tone a lot. It had more of the “V12 tone” forsure.
This setup is headers merging into a single 3” pipe out the side. The headers made a massive difference in tone. The video does not do the car justice, I am really happy with the sound the car makes. I haven’t had the car on a dyno since the install but seems to pick up some HP and torque 🍻
@@JulianGriggs so you still joining the two banks into one pipe exiting the side ?
@@JulianGriggs I’ve taking the airfl filter boxes and filters off completely on one of my v12s and it’s crazy . It’s the best increase I could have hoped for so we are putting gauze on the inlets now to retain the air induction noise but keep any dirt out . I’ll make a video . I’ve just got the larger throttle bodie inlets too so the intake noise shoulr be mental . One of the other ones is having the louder exhaust and one is having manual . 3 in total so making them all a bit different
@@haeloglobal5725 That is correct, the two banks are merged into a 3” pipe.
@@haeloglobal5725 look forward to watch the video!
Does the shifter have a button that you have to press in ?
No. You move it to the right then select the gear you want.
It’s the steering wheel and shifter custom?
Shifter is stock. The steering wheel is aftermarket, from Amazon haha.
😍
Jaaaaaggggggg
Olá pessoal. Alguém me pode dizer em quantos segundos Ele acelera de 0 a 100 km/h?
Love the XJS, sadly not the sound. Some cars were designed to be refined and distinguished and the XJS was certainly that. Each to there own though! Thanks for sharing 👍
At low rpm it sounds just like the ww2 planes with RR and Packard merlin engines due to the firing order being the same and both being v12s
Where did you find the headers?
Simply Performance in England makes them. Check them out on Facebook!
Sounds like an old school big six you will need to spend some serious money and build a custom set of headers if you EVER want to make it sound like a v12
How hard is it to keep these engines alive? Can you convert them to modern ecus to simplify them for more reliability?
The old Lucas electrics is definitely one of the bigger reasons why the car is so unreliable, aside from the cork gaskets used haha. Mechanically the car is solid. I’m currently in the process of installing a stand alone ECU in my car.
@@JulianGriggs are you able to upgrade the gaskets too? Any specific ecu you have to use? I’ll bet it’s way more reliable with that in place
Is there an update on how this sounds??
No new video on the jag unfortunately… fortunately tho! I’ll be posting a video on it here soon.
Hey man, that steering wheel - is that stock?
It’s not. Bought it off of Amazon!
15'' Classic Riveted wooden... www.amazon.com/dp/B079QS5YJG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Yep I know what's I'm getting now
Almost forgot to watch this today
I love how almost every Jaguar has v8 or more
Soon to be all electric crap.
The original shifters were not very good in these. Maybe someone can make something thicker and beefier. Something to get your hands around. It can be done custom. Maybe a thick aluminum rod
swapping it to a manual here soon! Shifter hasn’t really been a problem.
Looks like you need a steering alignment and I feel like you are needing to steer way more than you should need to for those small curves
you're correct! I do need an alignment. I installed a new steering rack before this video and "eyeballed" the toe-in alignment haha.
I bet that v12 loves to guzzle gas what's your average mpg if you know?
The OEM MPG Calculator never goes above 5 MPG haha.
Actually…these are not as bad as you would think. The engine got way more efficient in the “HE” (=high efficiency” version. I think the switch was with the 1983 model year. You can get 16-18 mpg out of them - if you glide through the landscape instead of stepping on it. They used to be fast for their time with a relative high top speed of 144mph….which is limited b6 the gearbox ratios.
How did you do your headers ?
I actually did a header install video!
ua-cam.com/video/9a36xb1gO2Q/v-deo.html
Long video, but it gives you a idea how I did it.
Thanks for watching the videos. I appreciate it! 🍻
ik heb er nu een in de garage
Sounds like a dodgy WWII RAF aircraft about to be shot down by German flak cannons and I absolutely love it.
6.0 or 5.3?
5.3
What’s the 0-60 on this. That first gear seems real long
I believe stock is 7-8 seconds to 60MPH
They are for highway speeds not 0 to 60

Dude, you need a manual 😅 every time you hand searches the gear stick.
i keep going back and forth with wanting to modify my 89xjs coupe. but its mint with 22,000 miles and all original.. so itd be a dumb move
I don’t blame you, if your car only has 22,000 miles! I think it would be cool to buy another XJS and keep it stock.
It wouldnt be a bad move, They arent worth much even original and mint.
You saving it for the next guy? Live today because you could die tomorrow. Imagine a 5 speed manual xjs with 22k miles.
I'm surprised your car still doesn't really make that F1 V12 scream after you fitted equal-length headers and merged the exhaust from both banks into a single pipe. I wonder what it takes to make a Jag V12 produce that sound. Even that yellow XJ-S which competes in the Targa Tasmania only has hints of the scream blended into its exhaust note, and that's with a modified motor. ua-cam.com/video/RO0wWjCPucI/v-deo.html
Thanks for watching the video!
Unfortunately the headers are not equal length. I would love to make a set of equal length headers in the near future! I am pretty sure I am running too big of diameter pipe for the exhaust... giving it a tin can sound at idle/low rpm.
Im not sure what kind of exhaust/headers Mark Hammond has on his XJS but I do know his V12 is FAR from stock. Sounds great!
I am currently building a new V12 for my car, maybe I'll attempt to build or modify my headers to be equal length!
@@JulianGriggs have you ever seen the nascar boom tubes they greatly higher the sound pitch and also the rpm and intake sound will make alot of difference with this engine without having to change the exhaust you have
@@jarrynsmith I have. Something I haven’t really considered, but maybe I’ll give it a shot, Thanks for the suggestion!
Definitely not for stealth missions.
Haha really sounds like a straight piped Toyota forerunner

Great. Amazing sound. I wonder when these cars will be forbidden the next few years, for all this climate nonsense and toxic batterie vehicles.

I see some lights are illuminated on the dash. Typical.
I am a huge Jaguar enthusiast never a fan of the xjs personally but each to there own.
Gotta say this sounds like a articulated truck and being the V12 xjs probably as slow as one.
