That was exactly what I thought too. I really liked the black hem in the drawing. I'm pretty impressed you drew this at 18. Had you already decided fashion was something you were interested in? When did you finally learn to sew?
My poor sewing machine has been sitting in a corner for a year and a half since I got pregnant and had no energy, and then dealing with a young'un. This makes me want to dig it out and design something!
Shridra Hey! I know it’s a year late, but you could make something for your Kid! Like a little dress or tuxedo, or maybe ask them to design something(If they’re old enough) and give it to them as a Birthday Present or Christmas Gift! Or just on a Special Occasion. Or maybe you could make something a bit more comfortable, like a Onesie!
The sound the scissors make when you cut the fabric is just so satisfying and this dress is a work of art I love it 10/10 if I were a bigger fan of pink I would wear this to my prom
I was really sad to see the black border at the bottom go, it sort of tied it together a bit better, but overall I really like how it turned out. Very 90's barbie meets new york runway 💜
"why is it messy in here?" dfjsdfhds i forgot how much of a tailor/seamtress thing it is to have a messy workroom... my parents's sewing room (the garage) was messy growing up just like my own sewing area is today 😂
honestly all of the original details she changed I would have personally preferred: the black on the bottom, the backless feature, and the pointed ends on the bow.
I think the black border on the skirt would have both "grounded" the design and made the bump at the top of the horsehair less noticeable, and I agree that the tail on the bow could be adjusted-maybe making the edge come to a point for a slightly softer transition to the bottom? Nice recreation and very interesting on the petticoat!
I love the bow, it goes really well with the dress and doesn't make it seem childish, but rather elegant and not boring, as it would be without the bow.
I love this dress. I personally would not wear it as it is not my style. But I can still appreciate the loveliness of the gown and the work put in to the dress. The dress looks amazing on you the color goes great with your skin tone and I'm glad you got your dream prom dress.
This video was randomly recommended to me. You have no idea how happy I am I found your channel. I have been wanting to learn to sew, bought a sewing machine, fabric, thread etc. Tried after watching a few UA-camrs. And got frustrated. Been looking for a sista. I cannot stand people (other channels) who talk down to others and make us feel like it's something we should already know. If I knew, I would not be watching your video. Thank you for sharing your talent😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🤧 New sub❤️🇨🇦🍁🙌. Now on to binge watch 🤪
I was just about to comment: ‚You still fit into your prom dress??‘, when you turned around! But hey, you’re quite a few inches closer to your teenaged size than most of us 😆 Gorgeous dress and great tutorial, as always 👍
I’m not sure how this got on my recommended, but it did and I’m so glad for it to be so! You’re such a talented person, and you did lovely work on that dress, bravo!
It looks very expensive and high quality! I wasn't sure about the bow but... This is fantastic! You made it into a masterpiece, and it was your 18 year old self who created this!
id still want a dress like this for my prom in a couple years, it's stunning and has such a classic look while also maintaing it's own individuality and being so different.
Your sewing is always dead ON. Your look absolutely stunning in the gown. I love it all, the horsehair in the hem really made it come to life in a Disney kind of way. Another great video, thanks.
I’m not into proms and they were not a thing where I lived at the time. But you popped on my feed and I gotta say wow! I’m glad it appeared. This is amazing to watch the steps that went into it.
You are at the perfect age to think about it. I used to draw dresses when i was young and people in my family told me that i could become a fashion designer in future. I really thought about it and decided to become a fashion designer. I'm in highschool right now but I'll definitely study fashion designing after I'm done with this.😊
Arya Yadav Me too. I’m 12 and my friends, family and teachers(the ones who know I draw) all think I can draw. Mostly just trying to focus on anatomy which I’ve basically gotten down. I have been practicing. I also wanted a career with design and I decided fashion design. I can’t wait to go to a school for it, especially since I wanna start practicing early. Wonder how that’ll work out.
Oh I’m almost twelve, I’m looking for ideas for prom dresses ( I’m young ik, but it’s harder cuz I’m a tomboy and it’s hard to find a dress that matches my style ). I never really thought about studying design and fashion. I might consider it! Thanks girls!
I looooove this but I personally would’ve preferred you’d left more of the black elements in, like in your design the bottom had a black strip the same as the top of the bodice. I think it broke up the pink nicely. But I could never do what you just did so I’m not about to sit here and try and act like I know wth I’m talking about 😂 you’re so clever, beautiful dress x
Very smart to install the zipper and finish the raw edges before doing the lining! I will definitely remember that next time I do it because I always struggle with invisible zippers
this is so gorgeous!!! very inspiring for me. I'm a junior right now so I'm hoping that over the summer I will buy/acquire a sewing machine (my grandma has multiples lol) and learn how to make clothes. I really want to make my own dress for senior prom, that would be a dream!
A little late to the party (about three years late) but I absolutely love this gown. It’s classic and the color is gorgeous. I picked sewing back up and aspire to create gowns like this and maybe even wedding dresses. I’m gonna binge all of your videos. Thanks so much for the content.
I’ve noticed that a huge percentage of the dressmaking girls on UA-cam are women of colour - I’m curious about whether there is a cultural reason for this? So many talented ladies making such beautiful clothes! This dress for example - what a knockout!!
I'm Nigerian and sewing is more often than not, amongst other skills, taught to us. We always wear custom dresses and most of us like the freedom of choice making our own clothes, or at least being able to alter it, gives us. Ofcourse not everyone is involved in more professional sewing, my mother and several extended relatives are, but I stitch, crochet( I'm unable to crochet clothes yet because I haven't practiced in almost a year), bead (bags, belts, jewellery, etc) and braid. I'm quite young and had been practicing all of these as hobbies but now, since I have a gap year, I hope to add sewing to the list and polish my skills in all the other handiwork I've learnt. I have several friends who have marketable skills as well (cooking, activities in ict, programming, Cisco related practices, etc) I also am able to do all the above, except programming. Majority of us learn the basics in school and build off of it depending on interest, so there are people more invested in artistic pursuits (singing, instrument playing, dancing, acting, writing, etc) and people interested in more scientific or tech-based pursuits, there are also others who dabble in all sectors (I being one of them). Sorry if I ranted a bit, I just wanted to give you a mental picture of how common handiwork like this can be in our culture.
Why do you use plastic bones? I’ve always found those a pain because body heat can warp them and make them lose their shape. I love the dress though. it’s absolutely beautiful
I cannot think of ONE thing I would have done differently. GIRL! my GOODNESS you are amazing at what you do!!!! SO GLAD I found this channel. I barely feel worthy. LOL YOU ROCK! You have a style that is just above and beyond...FAN FOR LIFE!
It's gorgeous amazing everything!!! Really beautiful. I do wish you stuck to your original design with the open back and black hem but either way you did a PHENOMENAL job.
That is *so* pretty! While you were making it I was kinda scared that it wouldn't turn out well(I dunno I have weird hunches like that sometimes that are usually wrong), but then I saw the finished product and you with it on and, wow! It's beautiful!
This made me emotional. Im young and havent ever made anything before but ive always dreamed of it sonce i was littlle begging every yewr for a sewing machine! Oh that is just sad. I’m almost twelve looking for ideas for a future prom dress ( even tho I hate dresses, I’m a tomboy ) and I can sew almost perfectly.
Again youtube offers me a video that I never thought to watch. But for once I'm happy. It's a beautiful dress, you have a lot of talents and a lot of mastery of sewing too. Congratulations on the dress.
I was taught to do alterations at a high end ladies clothing store. They taught us never to press on the top side of fabric unless we had a piece of muslin for a pressing cloth. Because it smashes the nap of the fabric. Also your dress is fabulous!! Only thing I would change is I'd tack the top of the horsehair braid to the lining or sew in a seam to the lining. But great job!!
First and foremost beautiful job! I love love love your channel. Question...I see the list of supplies but I am curious as to where you get the silicone tape from. I have been looking for it and I don’t know where to find it here in NYC.
I love Sewing. I am a child and make clothes for my dolls that fall apart sometimes. but I still try. I hope in the future I will be able to sew like a professional and even if I don't I don't really mind. It just matters that I enjoy it.
I want to make dresses. I didn't really care for dresses until I tried on my prom dress for the first time. My prom dress doesn't fit anymore, I can fit 2 of me in it but still want a dress I felt that way in. You're teaching me so much through these videos and I hope that one day I can make one.
I don’t know how attached you are to your prom dress in it’s existing form, but I think it’d make an interesting video to see you upcycle it into a wedding dress.
You are so talented oh my god, I agree with the open back, and also with the comments about keeping the black border but still I'd be so happy to have that on me

I love your dress. You should have kept the open back & a smaller bow & longer tails IMO. Why didnt you do the black around the bottom it would have hidden the edge of the horse hair braid.

Stop using the term women of color. Please. You're just making white people sound more special.

I love your dress. You should have kept the open back & a smaller bow & longer tails IMO. Why didnt you do the black around the bottom it would have hidden the edge of the horse hair braid.
