    My aunt is going to be recreating this in blue for my prom! My schools theme this year is magic or fantasy, so I’m going as Cinderella! I even bought some custom shoes for the occasion lol, I can’t wait to wear this dress thank you for the amazing video!

      Emily Cheeseman is your last name actually Cheeseman? Because if so, then I love it.

      Roselyn Medina unfortunately so 🤣 It’s kind of ironic really considering I’m a girl and I hate almost every kind of cheese and am allergic to a few of them 😭 I’m glad you like it because I most certainly don’t hahaha

    the dress looks absolutely amazing! The video is pretty clear, but for someone (like me) with 0 dress sewing experience it's still quite hard to follow. I'd love it if you could someday make a tutorial video (if you have the time ofcourse) on how you sewed the bodice, the ribs (don't know the english word) and lining without making them visible through the lace. Also how did you make the skirt and hem it so nicely?

    • @matheya
      @matheya 5 років тому +6

      The video is not a tutorial to follow and make yourself a dress - she's showing her work. People study dressmaking , pattern making and fashion in general at special schools. :)

      Kerley Bernard sorry some aspects were missing. I only filmed what I thought would be interesting to showcase. It's more a portfolio video. What would you like to see? Maybe I can do a follow up video.

    • @dezignerdreams
      @dezignerdreams 7 років тому +11

      Elise Tonn Designs Awesome!! Either way the video was perfect lol but I would like to see how the tulle layers were sewn together (were they sewn separately or did your sew them together?) Were the layers of tulle also cut into a circle skirt or left uncut and gathered? And how/where did you hide the seem of the straps with the grommets?

    • @ThreadoraGowns
      @ThreadoraGowns  7 років тому +6

      If I remember it was about 7 meters of tulle and two layers. I gathered them and sewed up the center back each separately. Then sewed each gathered layer to the skirt underlay. Not clear what you mean about the grommets, the extension? Or the actual sleeves?

    • @Lixx34899

    I did not understand what you were doing with the lace at the beginning of the video. But now I see that there are no seams in the lace on the bodice. I have to go wrap my tiny brain around what you did there. Truly amazing to a beginner like myself.

    • @ThreadoraGowns
      @ThreadoraGowns  5 років тому

      Sara the key is thread tracing where your seams would be and cutting the lace around that.

    Hi :), I am absolutely in love with this dress. I know you made it a year ago, but I see you've still been replying to the majority of comments so I guess I'll hope you see mine. I really would like to make my own prom dress for next year, my senior year, but I'm a beginner sewer and I'm not sure how I would go about it. I would love if you would make another prom dress video, with a much more in depth tutorial. Although I do like this showcase type of filming, I would need a LOT more info to make such a huge project myself. I was also wondering how much making something like this would cost. Would it be worth making my own compared to buying one, price wise?

    • @ThreadoraGowns
      @ThreadoraGowns  6 років тому +1

      Hey there! Thanks for watching :) I don't have anything planned at the moment in terms of a full tutorial. I am doing my own collection this year and that means less and less time for videos. My best advice is to follow a commercial pattern to get the basics. Are you in a sewing class in school? The best way to learn is to try honestly, there's always a seam ripper! When it comes to cost, it's going to be cheaper. This dress was probably 150-200 in material but it's the time spent that you'll have to be okay with. I spent probably 60+ hours on doing a draft, alterations and sewing (all those layers of tulle, invest in a gathering foot!). You've got the time, start simple and with a draft first and you'll do great! Check out www.simplicity.com/simplicity-pattern-4070-misses-miss-petite-special-occasion-dresses/4070.html#start=23 it's really cute!

    I didn't see how you attached the bodice to the skirt? Do you have tips on how you did that? I'm also making a dress with gathered tulle and a satin circle skirt. I'm wondering what the best was to attach these skirts to the bodice without a bulky, unsightly seam.. esp since my bodice will be sheer

    • @ThreadoraGowns
      @ThreadoraGowns  3 роки тому

      I show it in my Prima Ballerina course, but you have to get the bulk of the seam towards the skirt. Press the tulle in the seam allowance too. Lining should keep it down, but if not you might have to clip/grade or even catch stitch.

      Brenna Young I drafted a strapless bodice added modified sleeves to it. Skirt was a circle skirt, drafted that for lining as well. Tutu I didn’t need a pattern for :)

    Step one: trace out some lace
    Step two: cut that lace in a way that's seemingly unrelated to what you traced before
    Step three: sew some boning on a piece of clothing that magically appeared
    Step for: throw a tule skirt on your workstation
    Step five: sew some other fabric to... something else?
    And voilà, somehow there's a finished dress. It's pretty but you probably have no clue how to do it for yourself because this video really only vaguely showed half the main steps.
    I would have really liked to be shown more about the whole part where you cut the lace and maybe about how you sew it to the bodice. The rest I could most likely figure out elsewhere easy.

    • @ThreadoraGowns
      @ThreadoraGowns  6 років тому +3

      N The One thanks for the critique but I think you misunderstood the point of the video. It was not a step by step tutorial but a highlight video. I have another video on how to do the lace if you wish to view that. I would do video as a tutorial but this was for a paying client and meant to be one of a kind.

    • @Nathouuuutheone
      @Nathouuuutheone 6 років тому +1

      Sorry for the sass, I thought I was funny.
      In any case, I went and watched your video on seamless lace. It definitely answered some of the questions I had about this video's dress. I think I'll be sticking around and figuring out more as this channel goes.
