- I have watched this movie for the first time in 2012 and it has printed itself on me since then. I've watched it several times after that and I don't think I'll ever stop relate to it and love it with all of my soul.
My edit is a bit more sad than the story has it is, I wanted to point out the drama in it mostly, I guess the end of this movie is even more happier even if it's stays sad.
Anyway, it is one of the most realistic relationship journey I have seen in a story and the feels I get listening to it are real too.
PS. I miss Jim Sturgess on TV.. I don't know what he's been up to these past few years, maybe it's no longer his thing anymore but gosh he'll always be that incredible actor which convinced me to add him on my top list of actors. This movie was the first I had watch with him and I had to check his filmography after finishing it, wondering how have had never heard of him... I discovered his other work and than I knew he was really THAT great. I love him - Розваги
I feel like this movie truly projects the true meaning of "right person, wrong time". Very touching 💔
I'm sorry that i disagree here but he was never right for her. We need to forget about this concept of wrong timing becauae the right person would make the timing right for you, and the right person wouldn't make you hurt as much as he did to her. Even though she was great for him, he was never right for her in any way.
She just happened to love the wrong person and she should've moved on.
And maybe, just maybe, If she would've chosen to stay in Paris with her new bf, she wouldn't have had this bike accident and maybee..she would not have died so young.
@@Predictable1 I disagree with this. True love never goes away. He needed to grow up apart and lived so much life to mature and understand that she was a different person and their connection was unique and endless regardless time, distance and people. Sometimes you need to live life to understand this, he was always immature. Took a lot of time to see what they had, but finally did it.

Dex was so immature for so long.. and not just that, he even got married and had kids with someone else.
No one should ever just sit and wait till someone decides that maybe they want you, instead, you gotta keep growing and learning and when you do that, you'll realize thay they'll just never catch up with you because you never stopped doing so. I know this because I've been there, and "my Dex" after 11 years is now realizing things but that ship sailed waaay long ago and all I can do now is being the a great support and a good friend, but that's all.
If you love someone but they DON'T choose you, grief if you need to, learn from the experience, become better and stronger and move on, that's how you grow, not by staying stuck like Emma did in this movie.

2."If I can just givr you one gift, one gift for the rest of the life, I would give you confidence".
3."I love you dext so much, I just don't like you anymore"
4."I think the best thing you would do is to try to live your life as if Emma was still here" .

You have really done a good job...these dialogues are so ....heart wrenching....tearjerker.....but it's ok as it's life....🤧

The ending scene (the flashback scene)… It was so perfect for an ending. How the story was eventually unfolding. There was more to it than we knew. The more we watched the more we know their love was too special, and how they both equally fell for each other from the very beginning. What a masterpiece…
I cried at the part where his father told him to live his life as if Emma were here and then he said he doesn't know how to
Also at the part where his daughter asked him if Emma was his best friend (the ending)😭

I finished reading the book 3 nights ago. I have not stopped crying since then. As a bachelor of 64 years of age I feel like I am 17 again and heart broken after leaving my first and most beautiful girlfriend. David Nicholls really knows how to break a person's heart. This video is excellent. Thank you for sharing it. It's devastatingly sad and beautiful. Off to bed now with a towel once again. Who knew a broken heart could hurt so much???? Peace be with you.
I really needed to watch this right now.. I've been feeling so tense and lonely and frozen with lack of emotions lately.. A result of a lot of heartbreak over the years.. And this has just broken my ice coating beautifully. I'm crying with glee and relief and joy and pain.. It hurts but at last I'm feeling again.

This movie really re-ignited a fire within me, touched my heart and made me feel things I never thought I could feel again. I connect with this movie on so many levels. I met a guy in my final year of university, and we were friends for 4 months, I fell in love with him and decided to confess to him at the end of the 4 months. Even though I could always see in his eyes that he did feel the same way,he said that he doesn't feel the same way, and told me we should just stay friends. Soon after, he ghosted me for 2 months and then texted me again as if nothing had happened. I got angry at him, and sent him a fuck off text. After some time, I decided I still do love him and decided to forgive him. We do talk again now, but only once in a while,and our friendship is not as strong as it used to be.
Reunite again and settle it once and for all, just don’t do my mistake

I love this movie and the couple portrayed, but I’m genuinely surprised they didn’t include a scene of some kind that is a friend confronting her about perhaps being strung along by dexter. It would have absolutely happened in real life. There’s no way that someone could be friends with dexter that’s a female without it being a slightly toxic friendship. He flirts with her when it’s convenient, flaunts women around her(perhaps not intentionally, but still) allows extremely long periods of time to pass before admitting his wrongs, but only when she’s conveniently in front of him at a wedding. I love this movie really, but I can’t help, but be bothered by the “go along” of him stringing her along, but if this were in real life everyone would be screaming at Em to dump him as a friend and put herself first.
This film projects my story and my best friend in life/lover, my mum has always seen the magic of our pathway and she sees the true love but she also just told me to put myself first because I am always n. 2. In my life I have just left "Ian" because "Dex" asked me to start a relationship because he understood he loves me and always did, but he has some personal problems now, we love each other and I always felt and experienced everything Emma lived here, and My Dex is living the similar pathway... And then there are us, he matures emotions with time and he told me I have always know about what we are, his fear of disappoint me and my phobia for using bikes in the city, I live in London, he Lived in London before me, the same week I moved to the Uk, he left the country. We slept together the first night as they did, just talking about us, he gave me his confidence and his pieces of advice and he texted me to tell me "I need you, I have to talk to you"... No happy ending, but the events with a different order. My Ian did the same things Ian did, same behaviour, they looks similar, he also saw the film and he said that he saw himself in Ian and me in Emma and my friend in Dex, not because we have never seen each other while I was with my Ian but because he understood about our love just by 2 chats about the first guy I kissed, my ex (my Ian) told me that this love is sacred and unique and above all the boundaries, and he told me we should end up together, my ex has always defined my friend as my ex even if we never been together but for his we were lover. He told me I have never watched himself, been proud or talked about himself like I do with my Dexter and I do know what. I did everything for my Ian, as the film shows and more MORE THAN THAT, being responsible and work so hard and try to live, a house, try to find the joy and be realistic. Accept what life could give me. But... He was not HIM. I remember I wanted that he would answer to me like I knew HIM would answer, maybe in a chat at home, or anyway... When I saw couples happy I knew I was so unhappy and I dreamt about my Dex... We are close to each other, I am there for him, and he is here for me as he can... He always regrets to not had lived me and he doesn't want to lose me. I guess Dex Didn't know how to love and being love even if he found the love in his life. I am 26 now, he is 30. I am learning how to live alone and don't choose someone just to build something or a family and he is think about himself. And my mind and my mum who tell me I am so lucky to have him in my life as well as to stop suffering for him and as my mum says PUT YOU FIRST BECAUSE NONE WILL DO

Tell them that you love them and have been in love with them for years just put it out there because you’ll just waste more time that you could be spending with the love of your life. I just love seeing people in love so my god go for it!

Exactly. The new series is way more detailed and there's a part where Emma says "you can't come running to me when all your options have exhausted", and I was like, yup. Emma is too nice for her. In real life, anyone with self-respect would have stopped contacting him.
Whatever we do in our busy lives, there comes a second when we have to do them for the last time. Love above everything.

A man stuck in his mother complex, Puer eternus, Eros bound by Aphrodite, as a result of a corrupt society that supports the endeavour. Taking a whole lifetime to grow up, finally fuelled by his realization that maybe Emma was who would save him from his wasted life. Emma didn’t need confidence, she needed him. To create a life together worth living. Which would be the ultimate act of love. She needed to develop herself and truly stand on her own for him to finally see this. She did the true work, created a story with her own hands. I just don’t understand the devastation at the end. I’d like to think there’s a better ending to this story. But I guess such is life.
