Yea, referring to the tug as a barge ect. As time goes on the once commercial river is slow turning back to a wild, or at least to a quiet river, at least here in Minneapolis and St.Paul. There is even less fishing/powerboat traffic and the first few locks on the system are either permanently closed or reduced hours of operation. As I understand, cutbacks are because of less use and in the case of the Upper St. Anthony lock, to stop invasive asan carp from spreading north. Some groups have been calling for the removal of St. Anthony locks as well as L&D #1.
A barge hauls grain. It has no motor. It is a big box. A tug pushes barges. It was a tug boat accident - not a barge accident. Make sure at least one person in your news room has a high school education.
My local news does the same sort of thing all the time. It just amazes me how people will get on air and say things about which they have no idea or inkling of knowledge.
Technically there considered a red flag barge if they have oils and other products like these 2 30s where probably lube oil I work for a company that works for cbc we call grain barges hoppers
It is a pity that the reporter wouldn't spend a few minutes to learn what a barge is versus a tug, etc. There are few things more irritating than a news person BSing their way through a story.
That isn't true. Here in La Crosse WI we had lower water not long after the river locks were in place and again in the mid-fifties. In the late 30s, water was listed locally at nearly 2' lower than current river stage.
2 months later. What do you think now? There's another 10' rise coming down now. Media is a joke. I'm at 363LMR. We were lower than it was a couple tines. Media "Mississippi River is drying up" Two months ago I posted. "In a few months Mississippi River flooding." 😆 🤣 😂
It used to be that if a newspaper opened In a town, the reporters had to learn the lingo of the local industries. A reporter only has to ask pertinent questions, take accurate notes, use proper grammar & spelling for print media, keep their personal opinions out of the story & pronounce place names like the locals do.
It’s hilarious when folks try to use terminology from our industry. People really have no clue. Keep it between the banks guys. We are always just seconds away from being the subject of their next amateur assessment.
The slightest bit of research could have prevented this reporting being so foolish. Improper use of the term “barge” makes this report laughable at best. Better used as fertilizer for the spreading of ignorance.
It is time for you to approach everything you do during the day consciously. You should constantly control your thoughts and feelings. Any negative thought in your consciousness must be nipped in the bud. Protect yourself from everything that contributes to the existence of negative thoughts and feelings in your consciousness.

Your expectations of our local news media are a bit too high. They do best at fanning flames of discontent
